Neighbour in the parables of Luke as motivation for social work with seriously mentally impaired persons
Bačová, Libuše ; Roskovec, Jan (advisor) ; Janečková, Hana (referee)
The present thesis connects two areas of studies: social work and theology. It gathers findings gained in social work targeted to people with mental handicap (with special focus on those with heavy forms of mental handicap), findings from socio-psychological studies of human motivation, and from theological analysis of the Gospel of Luke and its parables, and subsequently it endeavours to interconnect these findings. It pursues therein the question of utilising theological knowledge in forming motivation for engagement in social work. The focusing element of this interdisciplinary thesis is the theologically profiled concept of neighbour, which is eventually brought into relation with motivation to perform social work with the mentioned focus group.

People with handicap fight with material barriers in everyday life as well as with barriers in communication. The aim of my work was to describe the experience of people with handicap in the interaction with people without handicap in public space. I have chosen qualitative approach of researching the topic through half-structured interview for my practical part of research. Degrading reactions have negative influence upon people with handicap. Ignorance and lack of interest were evaluated the worst by respondents. According to respondents the main turning points for improving mutual relationship are non-barriers and partner approach resulting in integrated society.

MUSÁLKOVÁ, Kateřina
This master thesis deals with the issues of adults with Down syndrome. Theoretical and practical part consists of basic facts about the syndrome, the field of education, living and working conditions. Secondary data analysis refers to both social and law perspective. The aim of the thesis was to monitor the living and working conditions of people with Down syndrome in the area of České Budějovice and Ostrava. In order to accomplish the objective the qualitative research was chosen considering the research sample. As a basis of the research the form of a semi-standard interview was chosen and as a supplementary was used a casuistic method and secondary data analysis oriented mainly on the area of employment. The results of the research imply that people with Down syndrome can work mainly at sheltered workshops because the organizations focused on employing people with handicap do not employ predominantly people with mental disability. People with Down syndrome work in the sheltered workshops according to the labour law. The master thesis can be used as a resource of information for organizations, which are engaged in employment of people with handicap and also with mental disability thus with Down syndrome.
