Health assessment using smart devices
Vargová, Enikö ; Filipenská, Marina (referee) ; Němcová, Andrea (advisor)
This thesis deals with the possibilities of non-invasive determination of blood glucose from photoplethysmographic signals. Elevated blood sugar is often associated with disease called diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is one of the world’s major chronic diseases. Untreated diabetes is often a cause of death. The aim of the work is to propose methods for glycemic classification and prediction. Two datasets have been created by recording the PPG signals using two smart devices (a smart wristband and a smartphone), along with their blood glucose levels measured in an invasive way. The PPG signals were preprocessed, and suitable features were extracted from them. Various machine-learning models for glycemic classification and prediction were created.
Response of biological signals during acoustic and optical stimulation
Strakoš, Libor ; Chmelař, Milan (referee) ; Bubník, Karel (advisor)
The goal of this thesis is recording and evaluating of biological signals connected with autonomic nervous system. Changes in signals are caused by optical and acoustical stimuli. These stimuli are pictures of different meaning. Colors, basic symbols and neutral pictures with variance in colorization are included. Acoustic stimulation is provided by short startle stimulus of white noise sound impulse. Changes in signals are statistically and subjectively evaluated as changes in emotional state of tested person. Tested people fill in a questionnaire about their feelings. Results of signal processing and questionnaire are compared at the end.
Estimation of quality and heart rate from PPG signals recorded from ear using smartphone
Ježek, David ; Smíšek, Radovan (referee) ; Němcová, Andrea (advisor)
This work deals with processing and recording photoplethysmographic signals (PPG), PPG quality assessment, estimation of heart rate and the ability to record biosignals using smartphone. The aim of this work is to capture PPG signals from the ear using a smartphone. Then design an algorithm for PPG quality assessment and an algorithm for heart rate estimation.
Robust detection of systolic peaks in PPG signal
Gálík, Pavel ; Smital, Lukáš (referee) ; Němcová, Andrea (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with systolic peak detection and their usage within the PPG signal. PPG signal is widely used by portable devices like smartwatch which contributes to monitoring of vital functions during the day. The theoretical part describes heart morphology and ECG signal development which is related to PPG. Furthermore, the PPG signal is described together with its usage and recording methods. Other part describes chosen methods for systolic peak detection. The practical aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to record data and to create own PPG signal database. ECG signal has been recorded as a referential value. The algorithm for systolic peak detection has been developed and tested. In conclusion achieved results are discussed with findings of different authors.
Blood pressure estimation using smartphone
Vařečka, Martin ; Vítek, Martin (referee) ; Němcová, Andrea (advisor)
Blood pressure is one of the basic indicators of the health state of the cardiovascular system. High blood pressure is the main risk factor of ischemic heart disease, atherosclerosis and stroke. Therefore, it is important to monitor long-term changes in blood pressure and respond in time to these changes. Blood pressure meters are not standard household equipment, while a well-equipped smartphone is. Smartphones contain a large number of sensors capable of measuring biomedical signals. This thesis focuses on creating an application capable of determining blood pressure using data obtained from these sensors.
Signal of heartbeats – laboratory tool
Vyplel, Vojtěch ; Vychodil, Josef (referee) ; Sigmund, Milan (advisor)
This work deals with the development of a laboratory device for measuring heart rate. The work will describe the basic anatomy of the heart and the origin of heartbeats. There are also methods for measuring heart rate. A sensor for sensing a heart rate in a laboratory device is described in detail. The work presents the circuit solution of the laboratory device and measurement of its functionality. Furthermore, the work describes the application for the evaluation of heart rate and written instructions for laboratory exercises.
PPG signal quality assessment and heart rate estimation
Vargová, Enikö ; Vítek, Martin (referee) ; Němcová, Andrea (advisor)
This work deals with photoplethysmographic (PPG) signals, their processing, quality assessment, estimation of heart rate from PPG signals and the ability to record biological signals with smartphones. The aim of this work is to record PPG signals using a smartphone and reference ECG signals using an ECG recorder. The work also includes the design of two algorithms, one for signal quality assessment and the other for heart rate estimation from PPG signals.

Ambulant Cardiac Monitor
Vaníček, Aleš ; Strašil, Ivo (referee) ; Číž, Radim (advisor)
This thesis describes the design and practical realization of a prototype mobile, battery-powered device that is able to periodically recording electrocardiogram and fotopletysmogram or blood pressure. Data from these periodic scanning is processed by microcontroller and stored on a memory card which is part of the proposed device. The device can be connected to a PC via USB like a virtual serial port.
