Assessment of possibilities for reduction of water consumption in steel industry

This bachelor thesis assesses possibilities for a reduction of water consumption in the steel industry and individual methods reducing water footprint in the whole process of steel making. At the beginning, the current situation of the steel industry is introduced and the problem with excessive water consumption classified. The biggest part of this thesis is then dedicated to the construction of universal procedure which can be applied in any steel plant. This procedure consists of analytical models and the specification of individual water-saving technologies. The results are compiled in a table containing the detailed influence on the whole manufacturing process.

The Impact of Entering of the Czech Republic into EU on Czech Steel Industry: Case of Třinecké železárny, a.s

The following paper assesses the impact of EU accession on the competitiveness of the Czech steel making companies, the position of the Czech steel industry in the European and global context . Case of ironworks Třinecké železárny shows obligations of membership, which the Czech steelworks must meet. The paper is divided into four parts, the first deals with the characteristics of the environment in which the Czech steel industry is currently found. In the next chapter I examine the steel industry in the following geographic units: the world, the European Union and the Czech Republic. The final chapter is devoted to importance of the accession to the EU for Třinecké železárny, a.s., including the environmental measures, which Trinecké železárny, a.s. had to take.

My bachelor thesis considers the strategy group of Třinecké železárny - Moravia Steel, which is an important part of the steel industry in the Czech Republic. The introduction elaborates the history and characteristics of both companies which due to the synergistic effect are successfully promoting competitive markets at the developed market s of the EU and other well established markets in the world. The main emphasis is on steel production with higher added value and the creation and development of product chains groups. The strategic objective of TZ Group - MS is to build a steel company with a closed cycle. The work summarizes the basic information about the strategy of production and export of steel in TZ - MS in relation to the total world steel production, including the impact of financial crisis on the development of this specific market.
