Jews in the German and Austrian Armed Forces 1914 -1945

The main aim of this thesis is to introduce the development of the Jewish ethnic group within German language area, also to map and describe their involvement in both world wars in which their representatives had fought, first in the armies of central powers, and later in the army of the Third Reich. Besides chronology of war occurrences, there is a description of structural development of the German and Austrian armed forces with regard to the Jewish ethnic group of both countries and their performance of military service from the moment of introduction of general compulsory military service until the German capitulation in May 1945. This work gives a very detailed description of census of the Jews in German army that began on 1st November 1916 and also of its political consequences in post-war years. In the context of the Third Reich and the German Jews development, the complex of Nazi discriminatory legal standards and their link to the German military power are introduced and described here. This thesis also contains short personal stories of chosen Jewish war veterans of the first and Second World War that are complemented with a lot of personal information obtained mostly from military archives. Resumé This thesis titled "Legal aspects of persecuting Jewisch citizens in Nazi Germany" discusses a fairly brief period in history in relation to a specific group of individuals. It provides the viewpoint of the persecution of the Jewish citizens by the Nazi State from a predominantly legal aspect, focusing on specific laws and regulations accepted in relation to the Nazis' anti-Semitic policy. The goal of this work was the endeavour to summarise this brief period of Jewish history, point out the most important legal aspects of separation of German Jews from society and prove that assumption of power by the Nazis and implementation of the anti-Semitic policy had a legal basis. This work is divided (not counting the introduction and conclusion) into six chapters, which are further divided into sub-chapters, possibly into additional parts. The first chapter is an excursion into the general concept of human races, racism and racist ideology, essential for understanding the reasoning of society at the beginning of the 20th century. The Nazis were convinced of the existence of higher and lower races and the danger of their mixing, on which they based their anti-Semitic policy, chiefly directed in the interests of maintaining "racial purity". The Nuremberg Laws of Nazi Germany and Reaction to them in Czechoslovakia

The main concern of this bachelor´s thesis was to outline the reaction of the Czechoslovak press to the Nuremberg Laws. This bachelor´s thesis is divided into five chapters - the first chapter describes definition of racism and anti-semitism, the second chapter analyses the rise of Nazism in Germany, the third chapter explains the measures preceding the Nuremberg Laws, and most importantly makes an analysis of the actual nature and impact of the Nuremberg Laws. The fourth chapter focuses on the implementation of the Nuremberg Laws to the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia - the territory that became occupied by Nazi Germany. The most important part of the whole bachelor´s thesis is chapter five providing the analysis of the reaction of the Czechoslovak press to the Nuremberg Laws.
