The first part of the thesis introduces the institution of the Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom and its significant position within the Westminster Parliament. The thesis then examines the position of the Speakers of the devolved parliaments of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, which were established as part of the devolution process in 1998. It then analyses the position of the Speakers in the parliaments of the Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey, which have been Crown dependencies of the United Kingdom since 1801. Lédrová, Miroslava ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)

Lord Speaker presides over proceedings in the House of Lords in the parliament of United Kingdom and is the chamber's ambassador as well. In order to understand this change, the thesis examines the reform of the House of Lords in the twentieth century, emphasises on the reform and proposals of reform provided by Labour Party. The aim of the thesis is to analyze and characterise the role of Lord Speaker, its work and position within and outside House of Lords. The research is based maily on primary sources - especially chamber's documents and legislation.
British Labour Party's Ideological Shift between 2010 and 2015
Kubeš, Filip ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
The goal of this dissertation is to find out how the ideological position of the British Labour party has changed between 2010 and 2015. This is achieved by content analysis of electoral manifestos for the House of Commons elections of 2010 and 2015. The results are achieved via the MARPOR RILE method. The result of this research serves to verify a theory created by Danish authors Martin Bækgaard and Carsten Jensen who claim that in political systems dominated by two large parties, these big parties react to electoral losses by moving the party from the median voter position towards their party base. This paper implies that the Labour Party has moved to the left on the left-right axis between 2010 and 2015 which means it has moved towards its party base. This means the aforementioned theory has been strengthened. Apart from the empirical result, this work also provides an overview of the party's policies in both points in time. These policies are divided into individual thematic categories.
British Civil Service Reforms: tradition-transformation-continuity?
Hálová, Daniela ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
The aim of this Master thesis is to analyse the British civil service reforms both in theory and practice. The author picked three areas where the reforms would be scrutinized. By analysing four essential documents that contributed to the reforms of the civil service: The Northcote-Trevelyan report, The Fulton report, Next Steps and Modernising Government, we would be able to evaluate the impact of these changes in the following areas: 1) Human Resources (recruitment, training and the promotion of the civil servants) 2) Administration and Accountability (the aspects of ministerial responsibility, accountability, special advisers) 3) Decentralisation and Fragmentation (impact of the multi-level governance including deconcentration, devolution and EU membership). The first chapter is the necessary introductory part that deals with the basic principles of the British civil service, its history and the challenges it faces today. The second chapter provides analysis and historical background of the four documents that are used in the next section. Finally, the third chapter discusses the three above mentioned problematic areas. By analysing and comparing the documents, we seek to understand the reforms of the British civil service and their impact.

Šatrová, Tereza ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
The Bachelor's thesis "Comparison of non-European immigration policy of the United Kingdom during the premierships of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown in 1997-2010" is a comparative case study which deals with the outputs of immigration policy, especially the legislation and governmental papers published since the New Labour won the general election in the United Kingdom in 1997 until 2010, when the New Labour lost. The two compared cases are delimited by the years 1997 and 2007 for the premiership of Tony Blair, and years 2007 and 2010 for the premiership of Gordon Brown. The thesis'goal is to discover if and how did the main focus of the immigration policy towards non-European immigrants has changed, in spite of the same party in charge and if the restrictiveness or openness of the country towards non- European immigration has changed as well. There are three research criteria, regulations of entry, control mechanisms and naturalisation, which are used for determining this in the thesis. Based on the analysis and comparison of data in both cases, it can be determined that the immigration policy focus has changed partially, and the restrictiveness has been growing since Gordon Brown has become the Prime Minister. These differences between the two Prime Ministers seem to be caused by the socioeconomic...
