Body dissatisfaction and somatoform dissociation in relation to eating disorders in men

This bachelor thesis examines the relationship between somatoform dissociation and body dissatisfaction in men with eating disorders. This issue suffers from relatively significant shortcomings in terms of the male population, as in the past it has been predominantly investigated in female patients with eating disorders. In the introduction to the theoretical part, eating disorders are briefly introduced. For the purposes of this thesis, the focus is primarily on anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. Different aspects of these illnesses are discussed from a gender perspective, including the potential risks of stigmatising eating disorders as feminine illnesses. Current scientific evidence on the links between somatoform dissociation and body dissatisfaction in the context of eating disorders is presented. Emphasis is also placed on the delineation of psychiatric-psychological care with regard to the importance of dissociation and approaches that seem appropriate for working with the male population.
