The first chapter describes the context of the refugee crisis in the case of Italy and Austria and the domestic political development in Italy during the crisis. The second part examines the Italian reaction to the Dublin regulation, the basis of the European Union asylum policy. The third chapter is devoted to Italy's response to the Austrian plan of the introduction of border controls at the Brenner Pass. The last chapter deals with possible Italian and Austrian proposals on the modification of the non-functioning EU asylum policy. The goal of this chapter is to explore possible parallels between the Italian and Austrian approaches to the reform of European asylum policy. The work concludes that Italy, as a result of its national interests, has responded critically to the majority of Austrian migration policy. The Italian Prime Minister has pressured the EU and Austria for the reform of the asylum policy because of his concerns about the rise...

Uhlířová, Miroslava ; Klásková, Markéta (advisor) ; Hrůzová, Andrea (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare the media representation of resettlement of syrian refugees, as one of the possible solutions to the migration crisis. According to the social constructivism theory, media are understood to be one of the most important factors in the process of constructing reality, and when it comes to political topics, their role is even more significant, as most of the time, media representation of political issues is the only option to acquire information about them. The so called migration crisis with its proposed solutions is one of the most common agendas set by mass media, the most discussed solution being resettlement. Thought resettlement is globally applicable, its history and extension differs throughout the world, so its media representation is expected to be different. This study, realized through quantitative content analysis, was focused on the comparison of media representation of resettlement of Syrian refugees in the U.S. and in the Czech Republic, the analyzed media being Mladá Fronta Dnes and Hospodářské noviny for the Czech republic, and The New York Times for The United States. The results showed distinct media representation of resettlement, as the czech media tend to represent resettlement within the securitization discourse, while the...

European Agenda on Migration and its impact on the European Integration with focus on Germany
HRBKOVÁ, Kristina
The bachelor thesis focuses on impact analyses of the European Agenda on Migration (hereinafter referred to as EAM) and its particular policies, including the way of their adoption and implementation, on the European integration. The EAM containing a package of measures and policies was set up by the European Commission in May 2015 for managing and solving of the today´s migration crisis and for revision of the whole European system of migration, asylum and border management. Although there are long-term integrating tendencies it the area of justice and home affairs, understanding and interpretation of the policies, capability and political willingness to implement the program create within the EU two completely contradictory tendencies. Although most of the policies are intended to lead directly towards deeper European integration in the area of justice and home affairs, their real implementation, either due to political or practical reasons, is questioning further deepening of the European integration. For instance, relocation mechanisms which are supposed to support an idea of burden sharing among the Member States and thus this concept should have led to further European integration, has under current state more dividing effect on the EU. With respect to the orientation of the study program at the South Bohemia University, a role of Germany, as a leader of the Union next to the EU institutions, from different perspectives, in the whole process of adoption and implementation of the EAM is being analysed.
the Role of FRONTEX in the European refugee crisis
Fridrichová, Katrin ; Novotná, Markéta (advisor) ; Rolenc, Jan Martin (referee)
The bachelor thesis aims to elaborate the role of Frontex agency and its sufficiency in coping with the migration crisis. The criteria chosen were quantitative aspects (the budget and the number of detentions of illegal border crossings over the external borders), and qualitative aspects evaluated with content analysis based on proclamations of the representatives of European bodies (European Council, European Parliament and European Commission) in the year 2015. Main designated activities were operational, on the base of the analysis of agency´s mandate. Therefore, the main role of the agency is both coordination and assistant. The rule, that member states and their border forces are responsible for external borders protection, still applies. This statement is the main problematic issue and despite Frontex has been successful in its role, all the investigated European institutions agrees that the mandate of the agency should be inevitably strengthened to improve protection of external borders.
