Freudian psychoanalysis and the literature of Vienna's modern art in chosen texts by Arthur Schnitzler and Stefan Zweig.

Subject of the present thesis is an analysis of relations between Freudian psychoanalysis and the literature of Vienna's modern art in chosen texts by Arthur Schnitzler and Stefan Zweig. At first, thesis gives an overview of Freudian way to psychoanalysis, topic of sexuality and his attitude to Vienna and to anti-Semitism. These explanations are followed by a portrait of two Freudian compositions - Creative Writers and Day-Dreaming and Sexual Morality and Modern Nervosity (both 1908). Then Vienna's modern art and the authors Arthur Schnitzler and Stefan Zweig with their works Fraulein Else (1924) and Amok (1922) are explained. Literature in the works of theologians - the example of Karl Barth and Rudolf Bultmann

The aim of the proposed Bachelor thesis named Literature in the works of theologians - the example of Karl Barth and Rudolf Bultmann is to assess the significance of German literature in selected works of the aforementioned theologians. In the case of Karl Barth's, the analysis is concerned with the reception of classical German authors (Römerbrief, 1919) and Dostoevsky (Römerbrief, 1922). A separate part is devoted to examining the relevant excerpts from his correspondence with the German writer Carl Zuckmayer towards the end of the theologian's life. In Rudolf Bultmann's cas, the attention is pointed at broader hermeneutic contexts, especially at the relations of culture and religion after the World War I, and Bultmann's reaction to Deschner's criticism of the role of religion from the end of the 1950s, Furthermore, an analysis of a selection of homilies form after the World War I is included, along with a brief characterization the specifics of this particular discourse. Although the grounds of this work are based on selections, its conclusion essays to argue that the function of literature may both subordinate to the Christian revelation, which creates its intelligible context and is able to answer its questions, and wholly autonomous as well, wherein literature articulates a theological them...

Joseph Georg Meinert and His Work in the Context of the German Cultural Life in the Czech Lands at the End of the 18th and in the First Half of the 19th Century.

The presented thesis contextualizes Joseph Georg Meinert's life and his writings in German spiritual life in the Czech lands at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. It aims to analyze the subject matter of the whole spectrum of his works. His writings attest to the life of this German-speaking teacher, tutor and professor as well as scholar. Equally, they show the cultural and historical development at the time when the patriotism in the Habsburg monarchy begun to evolve. In the thesis Mainert's texts are divided into groups according to their genres and recurring themes and motives. Next, the texts are analyzed by comparison with the information occurring in the secondary literature and the preserved fragments of Meinert's diaries. The results of the analysis confirm that Meinert's creations authentically documented the historical, political and cultural circumstances of that time. The creations influenced not only the patriotically thinking fellows and writers in the Austrian, Czech and German lands, but as an editor he also had influence on the less educated readers of his journals. Motive of food and its significance for the work of Uwe Timm

This thesis deals with the subject of food and its aspects in the work of Uwe Timm. The first part depicts different areas from everyday life which are in some way linked to food. German-speaking writers are mentioned for comparison since they address the subject of food in their literary works in some way as well. In the next section the biography of the author is presented, since he incorporates his autobiographical features and experiences in his work. Based on motive research, selected literary works by Uwe Timm are examined and different nuances of the aspect of food are presented. Autobiography in comic books and literature

This thesis concerns with the literary theory of autobiography and its use for comics. The goal is to try to modify literary theory for comics and apply it in practical analysis. The fundamental theoretical framework constitutes of The autobiographical Pact by Philippe Lejeune and a theory of paratexts according to Gérard Genette. In practical analysis the thesis bases on the comparison of comics with literary work and uses the knowledge acquired in the theoretical part. The emphasis is put on designing of autobiographical pact and on para- and metatexts which are connected to both of the books.
