SPATIAL PATTERN OF TREES WITHIN TREELINE ECOTONE

The main part of my bachelor thesis is focused on treeline advance and on its spatial pattern especially. The theoretic part is consisted of a description of basic properties, hypothesis of treeline formation, current treeline movements in chosen European mountains and their potentional explanations. The aim of the practical part was to discover whether the type of spatial pattern affects treeline dynamics. Namely, the western part of the Giant Mountains was taken as a surveyed teritory. Ortorectified aerial photographes from years 1936 and 1964 were used when doing comparison. Spatial pattern was counted by "Ripley's K-function" and by the method of "Average Nearest Neighbour" on 110 defined squares (size 30 m) in the expanding part of the ecotone and on 110 defined squares in its stagnation part. Results don't indicate that some type of spatial pattern support treeline advance. The same spatial pattern was found both in major parts of stagnation and the expanding part of the ecotone.
Germination requirements of rare and common plant species of Giant Mountains

For a long time studies were focused on searching optimal conditions of germination of individual species. During the last few years studies have started to search for a relationship between germination and various species characteristics. Most of them, however, use only one temperature during germination tests. Very few studies use more than one temperature during the germination tests. In the last years studies started also to compare germination between rare and common species, but these studies compare just a few species. There are no studies which would compare germination on broader range of species. Aim of this study was to indentify which factors are determing germination of species and to find relationships between germination and characteristics of rare species (n=62). Another aim was to find out differences in germination of pairs (n=24) of closely related rare and common species. To test the germination I have chosen a methodology with several consecutive temperatures. Throughout the time of testing , the seeds were placed either in light or in dark. Laboratory/Field Spectroscopy and Remote Sensing Image Data for Vegetation Studies

Dominant vegetation species of two structurally and functionally different montane ecosystems were studied by means of laboratory and field spectroscopy and remote sensing image data: (1) a homogeneous human-influenced evergreen coniferous forest represented by a Norway spruce forest in the Krušné hory Mountains and (2) a heterogeneous natural ecosystem of a relict arctic-alpine tundra in the Krkonoše Mountains with predominance of grasses. The first part dealing with the Norway spruce forest is especially focused on the methods of laboratory spectroscopy. The assessment of Norway spruce stands on a regional and a global scales requires detailed knowledge of their spectral properties at the level of needles and shoots in the beginning, but ground research is very time-demanding. Open spectral libraries could help to get more ground-truth data for subsequent analysis of tree species in forests ecosystems. However, the problem may arise with the comparability of spectra taken by different devices. Structure of non-active sorted patterned ground in the Giant Mts.

Sorted patterned ground are a group of periglacial microforms which create more or less symmetrical forms due to frost action and especially repeated freeze-thaw cycles. The origin of sorted patterned ground in the Giant Mts. is presumed in late Pleistocene and they are suggested to be recently inactive (with the exception of sorted circles). Their occurrence is linked to the topmost localities with flat surfaces and intense wind action which causes low snow cover and allow deep soil freezing. The submitted diploma thesis deals with the influence of site characteristics (such as microclimatic extremity, terrain morphology and lithology) on morphology and sorting degree of sorted patterned ground. Field research was carried out along a transect tracing the microclimatic extremity gradient (represented by altitude and so-called relative snow height) in area of Mt. Luční hora in the eastern part of the Giant Mts. which in relatively homogeneous from the viewpoint of lithology and wind exposure. Hyperspectral data for classification of vegetation of alpine treeless in the Krkonoše Mts. ABSTRACT The Master Thesis is a part of the HyMountEcos project, which deals with a complex evaluation of mountain's ecosystems in the Giant Mountains National Park using the hyperspectral data. The area of interest is alpine treeless in the Giant Mountains National Park. The main goal of this thesis was to create detailed methodology for classification of vegetation cover using hyperspectral data from AISA DUAL and APEX sensors, to find a classification method, which would improve the accuracy of the results compared to those found in the literature, and to compare the accuracy reached with these two types of the data. Many different classification algorithms (Spectral Angle Mapper, Linear Spectral Unmixing, Support Vector Machine, MESMA a Neural Net) were applied and the classification results were statistically evaluated and compared in the next part of the work. The classification method Neural Net was found as the most accurate one, as it gives the most accurate results for APEX data (the overall accuracy 96 %, Kappa coefficient 0,95) as well as for AISA DUAL data (the overall accuracy 90 %, Kappa coefficient 0,88). Laboratory and image spectroscopy for mapping of selected rocks in peak areas of the Krkonoše Mountains Abstract This thesis deals with geological mapping of selected rocks in peak areas of the Krkonoše Mountains. Four areas of interest were situated in two parts of Krkonše Mountains - on the west side it is the area of Vysoké kolo and Harrachovy kameny and on the east side there is the area of Sněžka and the area of Kozí hřbety. The main data were acquired by the hyperspectral sensor APEX. Ground spectral measurments of selected rocks and block fields were executed and the laboratory spectral measurments of geological samples and lichens were executed. Practical part aims at classification of rocks and lichens in selected areas using four classification methods: SAM, SID, MESMA and LSU. The spectral library is one of the outputs of this thesis. This spectral library contains the spectra of pure rocks and lichens and mixtured spectra of rocks and lichens. The output of this thesis is the comparation of used classification methods, the analysis of spatial and geological accuracy and evaluation of lichens influence on the classification results, spectral library and maps of classified rocks occurrence. Possibilities of remote sensing in grassland vegetation and management interventions monitoring in the Giant Mountains Abstract The aim of this thesis was to evaluate suitability of WorldView-2 imagery for grassland associations classification in the model area of Giant Mountains. The classification was based both on the legend compiled by a botanist, and on the legend of Natura 2000. In order to eliminate the effects of other types of land cover on the classification accuracy, a mask of grasslands was created. Using discriminant analysis, the significance of spectral bands of WorldView-2, as well as signifikance of selected vegetation indices and components from Principal Component Analysis (PCA) - to distinguish particular classes of grassland vegetation were evaluated. Based on the results of discriminant analysis, classifications using neural networks method and also maximum likelihood method were performed in ENVI 4.7 version software. Josefína Kablíková, personality of Vrchlabí in the 19th century

In my Diploma thesis I wanted to explore a theme which is close to my region. I decided to write about Josefina Kablíková, a modern and progressive woman of the 19th century. Josefina was an emancipated woman with a very intriguing life story. She was one of a few women botanists of her period. At first, I will present her own biography and a biography of her husband, Vojtěch Kablík. Vrchlabí in the 19th century and its specification is described. The following chapter is devoted to Josefina Kablíková as a botanist. Her botanical research far surpassed the region of Krkonoše. She became famous for her gathering of the Krkonoše flora. Even several botanical species are named after her. Another section illustrates the scientific research of Vojtěch Kablík, a pharmacist and a chemist in Vrchlabí. The last section concerns the Mánes family, who were frequent guests in the house of Kablíkovi. A large number of Mánes's drawings, paintings and portraits came into existence depicting Vrchlabí, its surroundings and Kablíkovi themselves. The aim of this Diploma thesis is to explain significance as well as the life story of the Kablíkovi couple in the context of the period and the region.
Past dynamic of alpine treeline ecotone in the eastern part of the Krkonoše Mts.

4 Abstract The purpose of the diploma thesis is the analysis of changes in the alpine treeline ecotone with focus on the age structure and cover of the Norway spruce (Picea Abies) in the Giant Mountains in the 20th century. The altitudinal position and the tree density of the alpine treeline ecotone is a sensitive indicator which reflects the human impact as well as the climatic and air pollution changes. Methodical approach included the measuring of the age structure of the Norway spruce by using dendrochronology. In addition the changes of the spruce cover were evaluated from a series of aerial photographs dated 1936, (1953) 1964, 1985 and 2002. Those photographs were orthorectified and classified. The age distribution in the majority of the sample locations is irregular with some prominent peaks that are corresponding to the periods of good conditions and dips pointing out to the periods of disturbances. There is an evident peak during the 30s and 40s which is the same period of the increase of average temperatures of the growing season. On the contrary, depression during the 70s and 80s is detected only in the case of closed-canopy forest. Romana Musilová: Využití dat DPZ pro hodnocení aktuálního stavu a vývoje smrkových porostů v Krkonoších Remote sensing for evaluation of state and development of Spruce stands condition in the Giant Mountains Abstract Monitoring the health status of forest areas using remote sensing methods are still under development. This master thesis focuses on the use of SPOT, Landsat, QuickBird and WorldView-2 images to evaluate condition of spruce stands in Giant Mountains National Park. For these purposes were selected vegetation indices available in the lite- rature. First satellite images were preprocessed and subsequently calculated vegetation indices. From the generally known were used Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, leaf area index and Simple Ratio. Than were calculated Green Vegetation Index and Red Green Index based on the monitoring of needles color changes. To evaluate moistu- re conditions were used indices Foliar Moisture Index and wide-band Normalized Diffe- rential Infrared Index. The goal was a comparison of the results of these indices and assessment of their applicability.
