The Urban Development of the City of Hradec Králové throughout 20th 21st Century

The bachelor’s thesis topic is urban development of Hradec Kralove city in 20th and 21st century. The thesis inquires into the city’s growth, hence urban development, and appearance. It presents a chronological evolution in historical consequences and briefly highlights the most important sights. The thesis describes the current state of the area from its functional division point of view. It summarizes basic findings about urbanism from the available literature and applies these to the city of Hradec Kralove. It defines problematic areas of the city’s development by analyzing territorial planning documents.
The architectural participation of Czech artists at world axpositions in the years 1900 - 1940.

This thesis deals with Czechoslovakian pavilion architecture at the world exhibitions in the first half of the 20th century. The thesis is divided into three sections. The first section deals with a participation of Czech artists at the world exhibitions before the creation of independent Czechoslovakia. Next two sections focus on Czechoslovakian representation at the world exhibitions in the twenties and thirties of the 20th century. The thesis deals closer with preparations, looking for a basic solutions, choosing of architects and requirements which have been imposed on them. In the conclusion there is outlined development of our participation at the world exhibitions in a given period and its way to the famous EXPO 58.
Roller mills of the Winternitz brothers in Pardubice

The student will write a monographic study about the automated mills of the Winternitz brothers in Pardubice. The subject of the study will be briefly considered in the context of general development of industrial architecture in the Czech lands. The author of the thesis will then explain the importance of the architect Josef Gocar regarding the Czech architecture of the 20th century. Origins of the automated mills will be put into a connection with a modernization of the city. The building itself in its primal form will be described in a thorough formal analysis and the style of the building will be characterized as well. Further development of the site will be watched in the next chapter. The study will then result into an analysis of the problem of a historic preservation concerning industrial architecture after it loses its original function, as well as the relationship between industrial and architectural heritage and the possibility of its revitalization. The House of the Black Madonna in Prague

This thesis takes a close look at the cubist House of the Black Madonna in Prague, designed by the architect Josef Gočár and built in 1912. After introducing the theme and literature the author focuses on the history of the building, its analysis (description of the project, plan and both the exterior and interior). Later the author mentions and assesses expert opinions, direct comments on the building in articles or contributions in books concerning cubism or cubist architecture. This thesis also mentions one monography written on this building by Marie Platovská. After assessing the building the author smoothly continues with European architecture, more so its development and placement of the House of the Black Madonna into the European context. The author also tries to outline the international scale of development in present architecture, meaning to highlight the "cubist" buildings of today. The beginning of the present is "set" approximately from the 60´s until 2014. The buildings mentioned in this context are chosen according to their common elements edges or slanting surfaces, that can refer directly or non-directly to cubist architecture. The author also mentions the biography of the architect Josef Gočár and his work. The conclusion includes an overall assessment of the House of the Black Madonna. The thesis is concluded by a bibliography and a pictorial supplement.

Architectural proposals of National Gallery designed by Josef Gočár

The aim of this work is to describe events that followed approval of the construction work of the gallery. The gallery was supposed to provide adequate exhibition space to display state-owned collection created by merging Society of Patriotic Friends of the Arts, The Modern Gallery and others. Following the first prize of the architectural competition for design of the gallery, Josef Gočár was entrusted with the construction of the building. Analysis was focused especially on 20s and 30s of the 20th century. Individual chapters deal with all designs produced for Kampa and Letna, respectively. Petr Macek, Ph.D. Abstract (in English): This work deals with Josef Bink's Red house in Krucemburk, the autonomous realization of Josef Gočár. We can find there detailed description of interier and exterier of the building, which haven't been in this range proccesed yet. The key part of the work also deals with the original plans and designs and compares them with the present form of the house. Most of the plans haven't been published yet. Except of the building's description, the work also deals with looking for the inspiration and parallels in the time of the house's formation. It examines possible influences of historismus, English movement Arts & Crafts, popular architecture leaded by Dušan Jurkovič and the both ways of Art Nouveau. Of course, the possible influence of J. Kotěra, the Gočár's teacher from the Artistic - industrial school, can't be forgotten. At the end the work tries to find a connection between the Red house and the later work of Josef Gočár.
