German-Czech meetings in books written by Martin Becker and Jaroslav Rudiš

TITLE: German-Czech meetings in books written by Martin Becker and Jaroslav Rudiš SUMMARY: The subject of this thesis is the analysis of the collective literary output of the two young authors - German writer Martin Becker and his Czech friend Jaroslav Rudiš. A part of my thesis concerns also with their lives and their works. The object is to find Czech motives in the work and life of Martin Becker and influence of German culture on the books of Jaroslav Rudiš, to concern on typical characteristics and analysis of their collective works. In my thesis I arrive at the conclusion that the Czech stay, interest in Czech language and literature reflect in works of Becker, in the similar way are books of Rudiš influenced by his interest in German authors, art, history, German language and other. Motive of a journey in the meaning of going back to the roots included in the work of Jaroslav Rudiš and Libuše Moníková

This diploma thesis is devoted to a central motive of a journey home in the sense of returning to the roots in two books by Czech authors writing in German, Jaroslav Rudiš and Libuše Moníková. These are the novels Winterbergs letzte Reise and Zjasněná noc. The first part of the thesis is theoretical and deals with space as a narratological category. The findings are drawn mainly from the publication Narratology: strukturální analýza vyprávění. Within the theory there is also an introduction to topology listed as a literary discipline, drawn notably from two publications of the literary theorist Daniela Hodrová, Místa s tajemstvím and Poetika míst: kapitoly z literární tematologie. In addition to the history of this science, more details are given about the four important toposos, which are often part of the narratives. Specifically these are the topos of the city, room, road and Czech pub. The first part of the diploma thesis includes factual information about Moníková and Rudiš, including a brief outline of content of both analyzed novels. The second part of the thesis is called analytical, because it analyzes space in both novels. Jaroslav Rudiš and Czech-German relations in his work

The main topic of this bachelor thesis is the work of contemporary Czech writer Jaroslav Rudiš, who gained quite a success in German speaking countries. The goal of this thesis is to introduce him and his personality and analyze his novels from the perspective of Czech-German relations. This thesis is the first one to introduce author's biography and his opinions concerning Czech-German area. In the next part of this thesis his novels such as Nebe pod Berlínem, Alois Nebel, Grandhotel and Konec punku v Helsinkách are studied from the perspective of Czech-German relations. The focus is to capture historical, intercultural and language motives, which are enhanced by expert commentary.
Critical reflection of Jaroslav Rudiš initial literary creation in the czech media

The thesis aims to analyse a critical reflection of the early literary work of Jaroslav Rudiš in Czech media - in literary journals as well as daily press and news servers and literary servers. The thesis analyses novels Nebe pod Berlínem (2002), Grandhotel (2006) and Alois Nebel (collected in 2006). To present a truly comprehensive point of view, the theoretical part brings forward critical reflection of literary stage. It also describes the life and literary output of Jaroslav Rudiš and analyses author's writing style and self-presentation in public. In this context, the theoretical part works with the term of pop-literature and explains why we could consider Rudiš as an author of this kind of literature. An interview with Jaroslav Rudiš is included.
Media responses to The End of Punk in Helsinki of Jaroslav Rudis

This thesis aims to capture and dissect the response of both printed and online media to Jaroslav Rudis' book "The End of Punk in Helsinki" - from the date of publication in 2010 until the present day. For such analysis, the critical acclaim is even more important than just raw quantity of reviews. Therefore the goal of the thesis was reached by the analysis of critics' opinions. The text finds frequent, both praised and critized, matters in author's body of work. The critics' responses to the book were mostly positive. The most common criticism is author's tendency to simplify the content, trying to appease the masses at the expense of quality. The thesis also includes an interview with the author and his response to the criticisms, in order to cover the response of media to the book from all angles.
Nonstandard language devices in texts written by Jáchym Topol and Jaroslav Rudiš

The bachelor thesis is focused on research and function of nonstandard language devices in selected texts written by two living Czech authors - Jáchym Topol and Jaroslav Rudiš. At the beginning these two writers are shortly introduced with selected texts and the attention is paid to their position in current czech literature. The theoretical part defines standard and nonstandard units of Czech language, followss the development and function in the art literature and represents the most frequent nonstandard language devices in individual levels. These theoretical bases are applied while analysing the selected texts. The bachelor thesis aims to describe nonstandard language devices in terms of binding to the text and their functions in it, and to analyze their applications. In the final part of the thesis the usage of the nonstandard language and individual styles of both authors are compard.
