Corrosion of Sintered Materials Based on Iron
Slotová, Petra ; Sedlaříková, Marie
This paper addresses the topic of biodegradable bone implants. Presently, titanium alloys, known for their ability to reinforce bone structure, are utilized for fracture fixation. Nevertheless, post-healing, their extraction from the body becomes necessary. Biodegradable implants serve the same purpose but undergo gradual degradation upon exposure to bodily fluids. Consequently, the need for additional surgical procedures for their removal is obviated.

Interaction of 7,8-dihydroxyflavone with physiological metals
Streďanská, Aneta ; Mladěnka, Přemysl (advisor) ; Červený, Lukáš (referee)
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology Student: Aneta Streďanská Supervisor: prof. Přemysl Mladěnka, Pharm.D., PhD. Consultant: Zuzana Lomozová, Pharm.D., PhD. Title of thesis: Interactions of 7,8-dihydroxyflavone with physiological metals 7,8-dihydroxyflavone belongs to the phenolic substances collectively referred to as flavonoids. Flavonoids are bioactive components abundantly distributed in the daily diet with the ability to modulate health and disease through miscellaneous mechanisms including their antioxidant activity. However, they can also exhibit prooxidative effects under certain conditions. Due to this fact, which is related to individual factors, i.e. presence of various substitutions on the flavonoid come, it is therefore essential to understand the redox behavior based on the relationship between structure and effect and to understand their physiological, pharmacological and thus also potential toxic properties. The interaction with physiological metals is determined by the structure of the molecule through the dihydroxy moiety in positions 7 and 8. These mentioned metals are essential for many biochemical processes in biological systems. Their homeostasis is strictly regulated in the human body and disruption of this...
Plant exocyst dependent secretory pathway and iron nutrition
Batík, Adam ; Žárský, Viktor (advisor) ; Vaňková, Radomíra (referee)
Previous results from our lab suggested possible phenotypic deviation of a double T-DNA knock- out mutant of an EXOCYST subunit EXO70E2 and vacuolar transmembrane protein LAZ1H1 upon iron starvation. To confirm these preliminary results, single mutants were obtained, with EXO70E2 knock-out mutant being produced here using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. Result did not confirm the previous findings in neither of the mutants tested (exo70e2, laz1h1, exo70e2/laz1h1 and exo70h4). This discrepancy is attributed to improper iron starvation protocol and different storage age of seeds used in the previously conducted experiments. Coumarins are synthetized and secreted from roots during iron starvation; protocol for their visualization was adopted and WT compared with mutants. No phenotypic deviations were observed in mutants. Pharmacological treatments of iron starved WT plants using BFA, wortmannin and concanamycin A did not suggest that endomembrane vesicle trafficking affect accumulation or secretion of coumarins. Previously published susceptibility of T-DNA knock-out mutant of EXO70E2 to drought stress was tested using CRISPR/Cas9 mutant produced here, the reported susceptibility was not confirmed. Upregulation of EXO70E2 mRNA upon UV exposure reported in eFP browser was also tested and not confirmed under...
The impact of small phenolic metabolites of flavonoids (propionic acids) on the iron-catalysed Fenton reaction
Spiller, Sára ; Lomozová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Karlíčková, Jana (referee)
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmacognosis and Pharmaceutical Botany Candidate: Sára Spiller Supervisor: PharmDr. Zuzana Lomozová, Ph.D. Title of diploma thesis: The impact of small phenolic metabolites of flavonoids (propionic acids) on the iron-catalysed Fenton reaction Keywords: iron, flavonoid, Fenton reaction, antioxidant, pro-oxidant Iron is an essential element, necessary for the proper functioning of the human body. It is involved in many cellular processes where it acts as a cofactor. It is physiologically very important, especially for its ability to readily accept and deliver electrons. Its amount in the body is strictly regulated because in excess of the free metal, harmful radical reactions and the development of oxidative stress could result. Oxidative stress is responsible for many pathological processes. Flavonoids are natural polyphenolic substances that are found in many plants. Their consumption is associated with beneficial effects on human health, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective properties. Despite their beneficial effects, they may, under certain circumstances, possess pro-oxidant effects related to their redox properties. During the metabolism of flavonoids, the gut microbiome degrades them to simple...
Evaluation of iron intake in a selected group of women
KRŮČKOVÁ, Dominika
This thesis focuses on the assessment of iron intake in women. Women, especially those of childbearing age, are an at risk group for iron deficiency anaemia. This is because of the higher need for this trace element due to its loss during menstruation, in pregnant and lactating women the need for iron increases due to fetal nutrition and increased red blood cell production to ensure adequate oxygen transport to both mother and fetus. Iron intake was monitored in two groups of women, with the first group comprising women younger than 50 years of age, while the second group included women older than 50 years. Both groups consisted of six female respondents. Iron intake was assessed through four weekly dietary intakes. Dietary consumption was recorded for one year. One weekly diet was recorded by the respondent in each season. The diets were analysed through publicly available databases. The recommended standard for nutrient intake was based on the recommendations of DACH (2019). The aim of this study is to analyze the intake of iron, energy and essential nutrients and to compare the resulting values both within the two groups of respondents and with the official recommendation for the intake of each nutrient. According to the results, only one respondent from the age group over 50 years does not meet the recommended standard of 10 mg iron/day. In the group of women under 50 years of age, only 1 respondent meets the recommended standard of 15 mg iron/day. However, the iron intake of most of the respondents can be assessed as satisfactory. Furthermore, there was a difference in iron intake between the two groups of women, with women under 50 years receiving statistically more iron than women over 50 years. The effect of season on iron and essential nutrient intake was not demonstrated. A statistically significant difference was observed only in the energy intake of the group of women over 50 years of age, namely between the summer and autumn seasons, with women in this group taking in statistically more energy in the autumn season compared to the summer season. Furthermore, a positive moderate correlation was found between protein and iron intake. A varied and balanced diet that includes iron rich foods such as red meat, poultry, fish and legumes is essential for adequate iron intake. Iron absorption can be aided by simultaneous consumption of foods containing vitamin C.
Comparison of different approaches in ab initio modeling of mechanical and magnetic properties of materials
