František Bílek´s work in České Budějovice - art historical characteristics
FILOUS, Štěpán
This bachelor thesis will focus on the work of the sculptor František Bílek (1872-1941) in České Budějovice. Bílek created two monumental sculptural works right in the city - a stone monument to the writer Otakar Mokrý (1919) in today's Na Sadech park and several pieces of sculpture decoration in the interior of the Husův sbor church (1924) on today's Palacký square. Preparatory drawings and sculptures for both works have been preserved in the collections of Aleš South Bohemian Gallery in Hluboká. The aim of the thesis will be primarily a thorough iconographic analysis of Bílek's monumental realizations and also their art-historical analysis, while the author will use the just-mentioned related works in AJG. The author will also focus on the ordering context of the creation of the monument and the church decoration, or the position of both works in Bílek's related work. If it is possible and appropriate, the author will include references to other works in the AJG, which illustrate the iconographic and material breadth of Bílek's work.

Kissová, Edita ; Hrdlička, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee)
The thesis wants to present a briefly documented history of the religious community CHC in Vodňany from 1925 until 1990. Evidence of the origin and existence of a religious community is given by the general history of the Vodňany town. The following part is a prerequisite for establishment of a religious community CHC. After WW I, the town of Vodňany was characterized by a great inclination to reform the Catholic Church. The spirit of great joy from new beginning was obvious from the founding of the religious community of the new CHC church. Those joyful emotions were immediately replaced by the responsibilities during construction of the church building and subsequent complications with the repayment of construction costs. The study also deals with the architecture of the church building. Members of the religious community were active. They focused not only on the running of the community, but developed cultural (Theater) and sports activities as well. The testimony to these activities was testified by the Youth Union of CHC and the Zeyer - Theater Association. During of WW II, the activities of the religious community were limited to the bare essentials. The years after war meant taking a new breath. However, the recovery from war did not last long. The advent of the totalitarian regime brought...

Therefore the volume of the thesis has been extended and more general information from the time preceding the birth of a new church has been included. One individual chapter has been dedicated to the construction of the church building in Prague, the Vinohrady district as I consider that it deserves our adequate attention.

Besides the Enlightenment it was particularly a reformist movement of the Catholic clergy in the 19th century, closely connected to Catholic modernism, which was a revivalist movement within the Roman Catholic Church at the turn of 19th and 20th century. The impact of World War I and the break-up of the Austro-Hungarian empire mustn't be omitted, as well as the influx of democracy, humanism and, finally, the turbulent atmosphere at the time of the establishment of the new independent Czechoslovak Republic.
