The Understood Author: A hermeneutical exploration of audiences interpretation of the author as productive practices behind a text
Pavlíčková, Tereza ; Carpentier, Nico (advisor) ; Kuzmičová, Anežka (referee) ; Hermes, Joke (referee)
in English This project builds on the tradition of audience research that theoretically and empirically established that meaning is formed in the negotiation between the text and the reader, that the audiences are agentic, their interpretation of media is contextual and situated, and that they have the potential to resist the media. It argues that it is important to explore people's attention to different sources: who is listening, to whom, and why - and asks how people understand the notion of an author that they encounter in the interpretation of factual media texts, and how this interpretation is brought back into the interpretative act. The thesis subscribes to philosophical hermeneutics as an overarching theoretical as well as methodological framework to devise a concept of an understood author that is a result of the interpretative act, where the author imagined and anticipated by the reader (in the form of prior knowledge and prejudices) is encountered and actualised by the author inscribed into the text. I carried out 28 in-depth face-to-face interviews with Czechs born between 1948-1963 to explore participants' experiences and relationship with media and media authors. Employing hermeneutical analysis, the focus is not to capture what is an author, but how it happened to be so. The...

How to make a technical speech/presentation original and impressive.
Gilyazov, Danil ; Kotásek, Miroslav (referee) ; Walek, Agata (advisor)
Child Cries Detector
Sobotková, Šárka ; Jehlička, Karel (referee) ; Sekora, Jiří (advisor)
The thesis discusses the emergence of a baby cry, function and spysiological description of the vocal tract. First, the cry of children´s records scanned and made time-frequency analysis, from which it was identified in which frequensy band found the child crying. Further work includes a block diagram of the device and description of each piece. Standing position was devised in the field of soldering, and its functionality verified.
LPC Speech Coding
Zapletal, Ondřej ; Kyselý, František (referee) ; Rajmic, Pavel (advisor)
The contents of the thesis "LPC speech coding" are studies of this method of a parametric source coding, explanation of mathematical procedures that are used in it (linear prediction, autocorrelation, Levinson-Durbin algorithm, transfer to a form suitable for transmission, Chebyshev root searching polynomial method) and acquaintance with the signification and application of that method in real speech encoders. The task of the original project of this thesis is a description and simulation of a simple speech encoder based on LPC, which transforms a real speech signal into a bit flow, which contains all of the significant parameters for its backward reconstruction (LSF coefficients, pitch period, excitation level, voice detection - AMDF method). One part of this thesis is a discussion about currently used speech encoders.
Converged solution of speech services
Mácha, Tomáš ; Kovář, Petr (referee) ; Novotný, Vít (advisor)
Development in VoIP technology is connected with the rapid growth of quality and data rate of the Internet connection. The application of the VoIP technology has become one of the key areas in telecommunication and networking. The main task of this thesis was to explore the questions of IP telephony and voice transmission over data networks according to H.323, SIP and Cisco architectures. Next focus was on designing and implementing experimental workplaces of mentioned architectures and their converged solutions. The purpose of the first chapter is to introduce the theory background of architectures required for implementation of real-time services in data networks and their comparison. The key objectives of the second and third part are to design and implement experimental workplaces containing signaling and proxy servers and hardware or software IP phones of several architectures. Illustration examples of different network topologies are included to demonstrate designed and realized VoIP solutions. Several tests of established communication are done using a packet analyzer. These tests examine duplex data transmission over IP. This article also contains two laboratory exercises designed according to gained practical experiences. The laboratory exercises provide an overview of theory and clearly indicate the possibilities of IP telephony.
Agreements and Disagreements between Automatic and Human Speaker Recognition
Providing IP mobility in Wi-Fi and Wi-Max environment
Klügl, Richard ; Novotný, Vít (referee) ; Skořepa, Michal (advisor)
The bachelor´s thesis is focused on wireless networks within the context of providing support of IP mobility for these networks. This document consists of two main parts, the theoretical part and the practical part. The first one at the beginning includes simple characteristics and classification of wireless networks. Then it is followed by description of actual new trends in wireless networks, focused on the WiMAX technology (IEEE 802.16). At the end of this part is introduced the technology of mobile IPv4 address provided by the MIPv4 protocol. The second main part of the bachelor´s thesis deals with the practical implementation of the MIPv4 protocol into the Wi-Fi and WiMAX environment. For this object is used the OPNET Modeler 14.0 simulation environment, in which are made three network models of these technologies. This simulation shows function of the basic mechanisms of the MIPv4 protocol and reports which of these models have the best performance for supporting VoIP communication.
Intelligent Meeting Room Controlled by Voice
Bauer, Jan ; Matějka, Pavel (referee) ; Schwarz, Petr (advisor)
The aim of the thesis is to design and create system for intelligent room controlled by voice. The solution is based on Phonexia Speech Engine developed by Phonexia. The system runs on Raspberry Pi. The core functionality of the system is implemented in Python. The resulting solution is certainly interesting and with some updates may become intelligent assistant for meettings.
Low bit rate voice encoders
Leitner, Jakub ; Mačák, Jaromír (referee) ; Pust, Radim (advisor)
The final thesis deals with coders and voice coders used in speech signal processing. The aim is to create an integral overview of coders and voice coders including a description of their properties, in the second part of the thesis a simulation of algorithms and methods of speech processing is performed in Matlab Simulink program. The basic methods of speech processing and a parametric LPC voice coder were simulated in time domain. In the LPC voice coder model there are implemented the algorithms for obtaining speech segment parameters. These are the algorithm for classification of voiced and unvoiced speech segment, LPC analysis and pitch detection. The output is a parametric signal that enables a receiver to synthesize a speech signal. The appendix 1 contains a list of names of coders or standard numbers of coders and their properties, the appendix 2 includes an overview of speech processing methods.
