Game Server for On-Line Gaming

Bachelor's thesis deals with development and creation application of Game Server for On-line Gaming. It deals with the classification of existing similar applications, network interface and game logic. It shows the possible use of library ENet, SDL and OpenGL. It demonstrates the functionality of the proposed server on simple games.

This work is aimed to game server construction which is used as universal platform for creating and playing games. Technical demands which are issued on game server, nowadays game servers and their representants from the open source or commercial pool. This work is trying to analyze and solve some problems which you can challenge when you are trying to construct game server for moderate count simultaneously connected players.

Main goals of this work are to present game development process and game engine Unity3D and develop game server with application programming interface including framework for using the server. The first part of this work is tageted on history of game genres and game development process. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to describing Unity3D game engine with focus on Unity3D networking. Development tools used in implementation and server desing included framework for use of the server are described in the third part of the thesis. In the last chapter of this work are described most important classes used in developed application.

This bachelor thesis describes configuration and management of the most used game servers, as well as analysis and implementation of the client-server application architecture to control the server. Also some of the tools used to control and configure game server is included. Major differences among various games and servers important for the design of this general tool are described in details. Some of the servers built upon the GoldSource, Source, Id tech, Unreal or TrackMania engine are included into comparison. Important part of the comparison is the description and an example of creating a new extension for a game.
