František Hrubín´s translations of French poetry

The main theme of this bachelor's thesis is work of Czech writer František Hrubín, mainly his translations of the following French poets: Charles Baudelaire, Stéphane Mallarmé, Paul Verlaine, Raoul Ponchon, Arthur Rimbaud, Guillaume Apollinaire, Jules Superville, Pierre-Jeane Jouve, Robert Desnos, Jacques Prévert a Pierre Emmanuel. The first part is focused on Hrubín's life starting from his childhood and ending with his last poetry collections and it is intersect with his literary development, which started in his early life. The next section represents his translations of literature in general, its function and historical context. The thesis then turns to the translation activities of František Hrubín and gradually moves on to specific French poets whose works Hrubín translated. Here, the theoretical part is joined by a practical part, where individual poems are analysed and compared with the original. In the last part, there is a list of all French poetry translated by Hrubín, which focuses only on the book editions which are arranged alphabetically according to the names of the French poets. The thesis concludes with an attempt to clarify Hrubín's choice of those authors and it tries to find if there is any common characteristic between them.

Poetics of selected dramas from the Krejča's era of the National Theater

This bachelor's thesis deals with the motif of everyday life, which came to the fore in the second half of the 1950s, not only for ordinary people, but also for writers, poets and playwrights. In particular, it examines the degree of importance of the motif of everyday life in the plays written for the National Theatre during the period when Otomar Krejča and his "dramaturgical workshop" were active there. For the typological analysis, five plays were selected which premieres took place at the Tyl Theatre in 1958-1963, namely František Hrubín's August Sunday and Crystal Night, Josef Topol's Their Day, František Pavlíček's Match with the Angel and Milan Kundera's The Owners of the Keys. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the motif of everyday life is what defines the poetics of the original plays written for the National Theatre. František Hrubín's poetry for children

This bachelor's thesis is about František Hrubín's poetry for children. There are his three collections: Říkejte si se mnou, Dvakrát sedm pohádek and Sviť, sluníčko, sviť. The first chapter deals with the development of Czech poetry for children until the mid-twentieth century, folk literature and especially folk poetry. The second chapter introduces us to Hrubín's life and his total works for children. From formal, thematic, rhythmical and verbal points of view are these three collections studied in the third chapter. Four selected poems are analyzed in the fourth chapter. František Hrubín belonged to the most important Czech writers in the twentieth century. Besides literature for adults Hrubín was devoted to poetry for children wholeheartedly. He is recognized as a great creator of modern poetry for children. A basis of his poetry is folk poetry - especially rhyme. His poetry is compositionally and thematically diverse. It is full of joy and hope.

Comparation of Šrámek and Hrubín lyrics drama

The thesis focuses on comparison of the Šrámek's and Hrubín's lyrics drama. Its goal is to describe how much different this type of drama of compared authors is. Common and different approaches of these authors are deduced on the basis of selected characteristic features and key motives (motive of love, motives on the edge of fairy tales and myths, motive of death and the end, motive of writer), the role of nature, the role of music and some other components. The thesis builds on analysis and subsequent comparison of six original texts - on Šrámek's Červen (1905), Léto (1915), Měsíc nad řekou (1922), Plačící satyr (1923) and on Hrubín's Srpnová neděle (1958) and Křišťálová noc (1961). Another aim of this thesis is to confirm or refute the hypothesis that between the dramas Léto and Srpnová neděle exists the strongest mutual parallelism. The main source of information about lives of both authors are books written by František Buriánek and Iva Málková. Three Regions of František Hrubín

This thesis examines selected work of František Hrubín and its connection to three significant regions in which the author lived, more precisely to Posázaví (Zpíváno z dálky, Krásná po chudobě, Země po polednách, U stolu, Romance pro křídlovku, Lešanské jesličky), Prague - district Holešovice (Hirošima, Proměna, Až do konce lásky) and South Bohemia (Můj zpěv, Srpnová neděle). The thesis deals especially with themes composing a specific image of poetic landscape and with a relation between lyrical subject (or narrator) to examined surrounding.

The types of intertextuality in the work of František Hrubín

The bachelor thesis studies the types of intertextual relationships in Hrubín's poem Jobova noc (The Night of Job). The theoretical part introduces the work of selected theorists of intertextuality with the aim to present some deeper insights into their thoughts and also to provide critical reflection on them. After a short transition, which develops further thoughts about the chosen interpretative method of intertextual relations, follows the practical part. It's focus lies in the search for evidence and in interpreting of intertextual references in The Night of Job. The goal is to offer a better understanding of a poem which still have had only few interpretations that wouldn't be burdened by the biases originating in the era of 1948.
