Mělník as the residence of Czech queens

The topic of this bachelor thesis is Mělník, a famous royal dowry town that used to be an essential residence of numerous queens of Kingdom of Bohemia. The focus is on the importance of Mělník throughout history, from its creation in the 9th century to the 15th century. The first two rulers to reside in Mělník were Przemysl princesses Ludmila and Emma. The last queen to ever stay in Mělník was Joanna of Rosenthal in the 15th century. This thesis is dedicated mainly to queens Elizabeth of Bohemia, Barbara of Cilli and Joanna of Rosenthal. The aim is to analyze available historical documents and secondary literature sources and use them to explain the connections of the queens to the town, portray Mělník as their residency and explain its economic and political effects. Abstract: This bachelor thesis deals with Viola Elisabeth of Cieszyn. She was a Polish princess member of the House of Piast in the Cieszyn branch. She mar- ried the Bohemian king Wenceslaus III. The relevant sources and literature are presented in the thesis. Besides, the thesis provides a short story about specific roles of medieval queens. Furthermore, a few facts about the House of Piast and some other members of this dynasty, which Viola came from, are shown. The thesis also explores Wenceslaus III of Bohemia, facts about his marriage with Vi- ola Elisabeth of Cieszyn, Viola's life in the House of Premyslids, her sister-in-law Elisabeth Premyslid, and comparison of Viola and Elisabeth Richeza. The thesis provides information about Peter I of Rosenberg and his marriage with Viola, too. The last capture deals with depiction of Viola in fiction. The aim of this thesis is to find out image of Elizabeth of Bohemia (1292 - 1330) in chronicals and prose. The first part is about Chronicon aulae regiae and relationship between Petrus Zittaviensis and Elizabeth of Bohemia and effect of this relationship on text of Chronicon aulae regiae. The second part is about prose of the second half of the 20th century and begenning of the 21st centruy. Attention is focussed on the key scenes of the life of Elizabeth of Bohemia, their views by various authors and on the figure of Elizabeth in particular textes, on its development and characteristics. The aim of this part is to show, how is development in imaging of Elizabeth on prose from the second half of the 20th century to begenning of the 21st century.
The holy queen Elisabeth? The metamorphose and idealisation of a Bohemian queen's image

The thesis is devoted to Eliška Přemyslovna, the Czech Queen, and deals with the topic from several points of view. Besides her historical image created on the basis of historical, mainly narrative sources, aim is to capture also the transformation of the image in the example of godly woman and female saint, especially in the context of today's pursuit of her beatification. In this context, the historical origins of idealization of Queen Eliška which accompanied the beatification process already in the High Middle Ages will also be looked for. Another goal is to probe into the cause of canonization of medieval noble ladies and monarchs and recently canonized saints Czech and Moravian and to follow transformations of this process from the Middle Ages to the present. The attention will also be paid to motivation of current effort for beatification of Eliška.
John of Luxembourg - his way to the throne and the beginning of his reign

v angličtině The bachelor thesis "John of Luxembourg - his way to the throne and the beginning of his reign" describes the circumstances under which John of Luxembourg ascended to the throne of the Czech lands and provides insight into diplomatic negotiations leading to his election and his marriage to Elizabeth of Bohemia. Furthermore, I will focus on the development of the relationships between John and the Bohemian nobility up to his loss of interest in ruling over the Czech lands and his turn to foreign policy. The objective of the work is to provide a faithful personal portrait of the controversial monarch, in whom many put their hopes, in a period from the beginning of his reign to the revolt of the Bohemian burgher patricians against him.

Plays by Václav Vlček

This diploma thesis deals with Václav Vlček, a Czech prominent author of the second half of the 19th century (1839-1908), and his dramatic production. The introduction contains the information concerning the author himself, his social status, and Czech cultural life of that time. The attention is paid to two most interesting art disputes he was in with the forthcoming young modernist generation. Then we will primarily focus on his dramatic production, his historical tragedies, comedies and psychological plays. We will try to analyse common features in his drama, focusing mainly on his heroines modelled on the basis of Romantic heroines, and the characters of rulers who are depicted as saints and therefore lose all their dramatic nature due to their faultlessness. Next chapter is devoted to a partial reconstruction of the form of Vlček's plays performed in the Prozatímní divadlo (The Prague Provisional Theatre) and the National Theatre. Rare extant material, especially the two stage books and a prompt book, will be used. The chapter also describes criticism of that time, mainly the two most significant critics, Jan Neruda and Josef Durdík. By means of textual examples we will try to analyse Vlček's dramatical language which was very similar to the language of many of his speeches and proclamations. The aim...
