Alternative Energy Sources and Their Integration into the Concept of Smart Grids

This work deals mainly with electrical energy. In the first part is focused on alternative energy sources, and describes structure of consumption and production of electricity over the past few years, during which is focuses on renewable energy sources. In this context, assesses the conditions for alternative energy sources in the Czech Republic from the perspective of the legislative, as well as current status and potential of alternative energy sources and tries to predict the development of these issues. The next section describes the Smart Grids as a means to achieve these goals. There are presented the basic features of this system, its goals and challenges, a description of the integration of Smart Grids with other sources of electricity and the benefits of using Smart Grids both from the perspective of user and from the perspective of system. Other parts are focused on distributed control systems in the energy sector, its development and principle. The last part is devoted to consideration of the role of alternative energy sources and distributed generation in Smart Grids.
The Proposal of the Business development of the Company Operating on the Electricity Market

The dissertation target was to define the strategical concept of the company QUANTUM development. The company QUANTUM is the trader with the commodity of electricity operating the Czech Republic market. The theoretical part of the dissertation targets at the item of the company development and the process of the strategical management. There is the analytical methodology defined as well. The analytical part of the dissertation defines the practical implementation of the analytical concepts of the business environment of the company with the aim to define the impact factors influencing the company. The strategical concept of the business development of the company was defined and implemented due to the conclusion of the analysis with the aim to maintain the competitive position of the company in the Czech energy market. The definition of the strategy implementation reacts at the analysis of the defined threats and opportunities and the evaluation of the risks.

This diploma thesis deals with the creation of the development plan within the selected portfolio of services on the electricity market. The theoretical part focuses on a detailed description of the possibilities of company development and strategic management issues, especially on selected analyzes of general, market and internal environment. In the analytical part are identified and analyzed the key factors affecting the company affecting its operation in the electricity market, as well as the evaluation of the internal environment of the company. Based on the results of the analyzes, a proposal for the development of QUANTUM, a.s. to consolidate the electricity market position and steps to achieve the chosen strategy. The proposals also include a risk assesment and evaluation of the benefits of the proposed strategy.
Simulating daily load profiles to evaluate tariff structures

Tato práce se zabývá simulací denních zátěžových profilů pro účely vyhodnocení tarifní struktury. V první části práce je uvedena rešerše ekonomického hlediska dodávky elektřiny, tedy trhy s elektřinou, návrhem tarifů a tarifními strukturami v Česku a dalších evropských zemích. Práce se také zabývá konceptem komunitních energetických systémů. Stěžejní částí této práce je vytvoření modelu pro simulaci denních zátěžových profilů a zavést to k vyhodnocení více scénářů rozúčtování. Teoretická část práce se zabývá trhem s elektřinou, procesem jeho tvorby a prvky, které dohromady tvoří tarifní strukturu. Ceny elektrické energie jsou uvedeny z historického a aktuálního hlediska pro několik evropských zemí. Poté jsou uvedeny klíčové technologické aspekty komunitních energetických systémů. V praktické části této práce je uvedena simulace určená k vygenerování denních profilů spotřeby domácností. Model, implentován v prostředí Matlabu, používá Poissonovo i Binomické rozdělení. Vychází z profilu obsazenosti (aktivity) v každé domácnosti v jednotlivých hodinách a také z náhodného spínání spotřebičů. Na základě modelu byly otestovány scénáře pro výpočet ceny elektrické energie pro jednotlivé typové případy domácností.
Feasibility study pumped storage hydropower plant in a particular locality

Electric energy storage represents an area, which needs to be further developed in order to accommodate more installed capacity of wind and solar power plants in the electric grids. Pumped hydro energy storage still remains ahead of other storage technologies in terms of achievable storage capacity. However, environment protection which is one of the obstacles for further PHES development in Europe causes significant reduction of suitable sites. It is therefore useful to examine also those sites, which seem to be less favourable for PHES at the first glance. This thesis deals with a feasibility study of a PHES on place of a former graphite surface mine. The thesis includes computation of basic capacities, choice of a suitable machine arrangement and introduction into PHES feasibility issues in electric grids. Two possible solutions of a smaller PHES that differ in their capacities were suggested based on available materials about the site as well as on available materials from Francis pump turbine model research. In case of both solutions a binary machine set is used and the available capacities are in small tens of megawatts. However, there is a wide head variation at the site, which causes significant power variation. Concerning the feasibility of the PHES, it is very uncertain that the participation in the day-ahead electricity market, would provide enough revenue to cover operation and capital costs. A following economic analysis investigating the capital costs of this particular PHES would be beneficial, as well as more detailed design of the reservoirs.
The development of energetics in the Czech Republic during the following years

This thesis analyses the current Czech energy sector. It describes its current state and outlines possible scenarios of its development in future years in the context of the energy transformation. The thesis seeks to analyse the current situation of the energy sector in the country, assess its strengths and weaknesses and identify opportunities and threats for future development. The thesis describes the different parts of the Czech energy sector, such as the electricity, gas, heating and oil industries, including production sources, consumption and emissions. Most emphasis is given to the electricity sector. The capacities and potentials of the different sectors are analysed alongside the possible future scenarios outlined. Part of the thesis is also focused on describing and explaining the composition and construction of electricity and gas prices in the Czech Republic. Emphasis is also placed on placing the Czech energy sector in the broader context of the energy sectors of European countries and includes various scenarios for the development of the electricity sector in Europe. In the context of the current geopolitical situation in Europe and the modernisation and transformation of this sector, it is necessary to build new energy sources.

Selective adjustment to EU regulatory provisions in new member states : the case of electricity market liberalization in Bulgaria and Czech Republic

The present work aspires to provide a comprehensive analysis of the policy developments through which European-level prescriptions regarding the liberalization of national electricity markets have been accommodated within the domestic policy contexts of two new member states of the European Union: Bulgaria and Czech Republic. Despite being subjected to uniform demands, adaptation to community regulatory provisions in the two countries has prompted divergent patterns of policy change, resulting in full compliance in the Czech Republic and a failure to meet EU objectives in Bulgaria. In order to address the observed inconsistency the envisaged research identifies a causal link between the outcomes of regulatory compliance and the influence of utility regulation as a sector-specific EU governance pattern on the dynamics of resource re-distribution at the domestic level. A major concern of the research is how contextual factors, such as incumbent power balances across actor populations in the target policy area condition the impacts of EU inputs on domestic policy decisions. Consequences of liberalization of electricity market

This thesis examines the impacts of liberalization of electricity market. The first part of this work provides theoretical overview of the liberalization process and electricity market design in Czech Republic. To understand how the european wholesale markets are integrated, I have performed correlation analysis of daily spot prices on selected power exchanges. On the basic of this analysis I confirmed that selected power exchanges are on different levels of integration and have higher dependency on regional level. The second part of the empirical part is focused on the impact of competition on czech retail market. The objective was to show that liberalization and following increase of competition in electricity market result into decrease of retailers' gross profit margins in the segment of housholds with ordinary consumption. The last part of this work is focused on the measurement of market power using the most famous methods of measuring market power, such as Lerner index and Herfindahl-Hirschman index. My calculations indicate that while market concentration has decreased in the long run, since 2012 it is slightly increasing. Electricity market: Analysis and prediction of volatility Abstract Vladimír Kunc July 30, 2015 The last two decades can be characterized by restructuring of energy industry and the creation of new, competitive energy markets, where accurate forecasts of elec- tricity prices and price volatility are valuable both to consumers and producers. The aim of this work is to analyse several models for prediction of the price volatility of electricity on the Czech Electricity Day-ahead market on price data provided by OTE, a.s. for years 2009-2014. This work compares 144 different models' configura- tions for three distinct classes of models - autoregressive models, GARCH models, and artificial neural network models.
