Mathematical methods of morphology modelling of coniferous trees
Janoutová, Růžena ; Štarha, Pavel (referee) ; Martišek, Dalibor (advisor)
The thesis was focused on creation of a coniferous tree by nondestructive method allowing description of structure of adult spruce trees. After processing provided data we created a model of L-system which creates a tree branch. Thereafter, a Python script generated parameters which were required for the creation of the model of the tree in graphical software Blender. Model of coniferous tree was sucesfully generated. Its memory requirements are high but for our purposes this is not an essential problem.
Increasing the information value of the data using modern approaches to visualization
Král, Jakub ; Slánský, David (advisor) ; Pour, Jan (referee)
This thesis solves the area of data visualization in Business Intelligence. We live in a time when the amount of data grows turbulently. These data need to be processed into a form with added value for management and business objectives of the company. The first task is to adjust the data into the required format, the second task is to choose the appropriate visualization so that the data are providing the highest value. This work deals with data visualization and its main aim is to introduce a different approach to data visualization, which has a higher added value than conventional visualization methods used in dashboards and reports. First of all, theoretical part is describing data area (including the trend of Big Data) and reporting (chapter 3). Followed by chapter 4, which is enriching the reader with the information about the need to deal with data visualization and also with the design theory of visualization components. The theoretical part is finished with fifth chapter. It deals with current trends in the field of data visualization and Business Intelligence and also introduces D3.js library as a tool for creating interactive and efficient visualization components. The practical part is offering suggestions for interactive and dynamic visualization of input data (chapter 6). It presents a convenient way to choose a visualization component with greater value than the traditional static component in the form of a graph or table. Proposals contained in D3.js library are presented to the reader. Chosen components according to the author are interesting from the view of design and, if properly used, offer an innovative approach to data visualization. For purposes of practical examples of visualization, author is using D3.js library and open source tool for Business Intelligence from Pentaho. Practical example is part of the final chapter 7.
Comparison of selected commercial reporting BI platforms
Krečmerová, Petra ; Novotný, Ota (advisor) ; Daněk, Lukáš (referee)
This Diploma thesis focuses on a comparison of selected commercial reporting BI platforms. The goals of the thesis are to create pilot dashboards based on three Business Intelligence tools, compare these tools among themselves and select the most optimal one for creating dashboards. The theoretical part describes the problematics of Business Intelligence, its principles and components. These are divided into several layers such as production systems, transformation and data layers, data analysis and presentation layer. The performance dashboard are then described and an indepth analysis of the commercial tools market has been performed. In the practical part pilot dashboards are created based on retail chains data in three selected Business Intelligence tools Power BI, QlikView and Tableau. These are then compared and based on a multi-criteria analysis the optimal tool for creating dashboards is selected and recommended. The evaluation criteria, their weights using Fuller´s method and the final evaluation based on the Weighted Sum Approach are set in the analysis. The Diploma thesis is set up for a project of the Competency center Retail Analytics and for the professional community. It shall be used as one of the sources in the selection of BI reporting platform.
Digitalization and Visualization of J. A. Comenius' Correspondence (1592-1670)
Lelková, Iva
The project of digitizing and visualization of Jan Amos Comenius' (1592-1670) correspondence is an outcome of an international collaboration among the Department for Comenius Studies and Early Modern Intellectual History of the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Cultures of Knowledge project of the University of Oxford. An online database of Comenius' letters was created within the online union catalogue of early modern scholarly correspondence called the Early Modern Letters Online (EMLO) and outstandingly rich metadata were used for visualizations and analysis of the Comenius' correspondence. The researchers used free visualization web-based platform Palladio developed by the Stanford University. Visualization and data analysis not only facilitated to visualize previously known tendencies and facts but also helped to discover new and unknown moments which led to further study.

Visualization of Multivariate Statistical Data
Maroušek, Vít ; Pecáková, Iva (advisor) ; Černý, Jindřich (referee)
The thesis deals with the possibilities of visualization of multivariate statistical data. Since this is a very broad area the thesis is divided into four sections, two of which are theoretically and two practically oriented. The first section is devoted to theoretical aspects of data visualization. It contains information about the building blocks of graphs, and how the brain processes graphs in various stages of perception. The second section charts the available chart types that can be used to display data. Selected types of graphs for continuous and discontinuous multidimensional data are described in detail. The third section focuses on available software tools for creating graphs. The section describes several programs, with focus on STATISTICA, R and MS Excel. The knowledge gained in previous chapters was sufficient source of information to perform a graphical analysis of multidimensional continuous and discrete data and using advanced analytical methods in the last section. This analysis is performed separately on the data file with continuous variables and on a data file with discontinuous (categorical) variables.
