This bachelor thesis inquires into the reflection of "The Battle of the Symbols of the University" on the pages of Přítomnost. It charts editor's offices stances to nationalism is the Czechoslovak society in the first half of 1930's. The thesis insists on the representative choice of articles of Přítomnost and on archive materials to describe the event. The objective of the work is to bring the sum of stances of magazine to the students, nationalism, relation between Czech and Germen people an "The Battle of the Symbols of the University" in the first half of 1930's. The work charts the stances of the Czechoslovak society, which is represented by the magazine Přítomnost.
Association of Czechoslowak Lawyers in the new state

This thesis deals with the existence of the Association of Czechoslovak Lawyers Všehrd in the interwar period. The work follows the institutional history of the league and the world of ideas of its members. It deals with the requirements and expectations of the management association in the background of social issues and nationalist sentiments, which tended association especially in the thirties of the 20th century. The work relies on federal sources provenance and representative selection of newspaper articles. The aim is to describe the functioning of the inter-war fraternity as well as outline the trends emerging in the student movement of the First Republic. Juridical Association as the second oldest and largest Czech student association will serve as a suitable representative of these organizations. Work is also interested in the relationship Czech law students to the state, foreign nationals, other student's associations and the Czechoslovak Germans. On the basis of the dispute between the federal leadership and the opposition the work monitors political tendencies within the student movement. This thesis aims to contribute to complete the picture of the interwar Czechoslovak society.
The transformation of Czech society in the 1930s

The so-called Second Czechoslovak Republic (1938-1939) is used to be portrayed as the dark age, when obscure, fascist elements came to lights. This period is ussually put in opposition to the previous First Czechoslovak Republic (1918-1938). In this thesis the main argument consist of questioning the continuity between these two allegedly contradictory historical times through the analysis of special legislation - state of exception -, which was adopted in purpose to deal with defending the democracy in Czechoslovakia between 1933 and 1938. The State Protection Act (1936) implemented into legal discourse special term for potential - in the case of war - enemies of the state: "state unreliable persons". This category of "reliability" was understood as nationality and part of far more complex national consensus by all contemporary agents, which legitimizes the state intervention primarily into the economic sphere. In the centre of national consensus stood transformed labour: collective duty for the nation. Until 1938, among contemporary agents, exists strong notion that realization the state of exception in the case of war and therefore national consensus cannot be fully realized because of international minority laws. The Image of Czechoslovakia in Simon Mawer's The Glass Room

The thesis provides an analysis of the First Czechoslovak Republic in Simon Mawer's novel The Glass Room. The first part of the thesis concentrates on Mawer's life, the beginnings of his writing career, his interest in the Czech Republic and the Villa Tugendhat which inspired him in writing the novel and also on the work's receptions. The second part focuses on history of the First Czechoslovak Republic and on an analysis of this era in Mawer's novel. It deals with Czechoslovak political, social and economic situation, Czechoslovak cultural life and art, minorities issue and growing radicalism of 1930's in The Glass Room and compares and contrasts it with the real Czechoslovakia.
