Jan Pfeiffer 2023 Charles University, Faculty of Education DISSERTATION Black. (Selected cases of phenomena in visual arts, culture and their possibilities in education) MgA. Jan Pfeiffer 2023 Abstract The subject of this work is black, or the designation for color. But it is also an artistic concept and means of expression. The subject of my interest are selected cases of the black phenomenon in visual arts, culture, and their possibilities in education. I understand black as a phenomenon that I explore through my own creative work. In the course of it, I ask myself questions, such as: what stimuli, for example, black gives us and how it is connected with our socio-cultural background and its perception. I also ask contemporary artists working consciously or unconsciously with black, what black enables them in their work, and how it supports them, whether it is crucial for them. My intention is to open new perspectives on the subject of black and its connection with daily life, the ability to treat this phenomenon as a conscious gesture, an opinion - distinguishing different uses of black context. I also examine the possibilities of reasoning verified in...

Liška, Zdeněk ; Teplý, Vladimír (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor) ; Petříček, Tomáš (advisor)
The theme of this project was to create a building which would be used for recreational and sporting purposes at The Brno Reservoir . The proposed building includes following parts: facilities for employees of the Public Transport of City Brno, marinas, information center for selling tickets, restaurant and fast food, and bathrooms for visitors. The plot is defined by the existing car park, access road to the car park, boat tickets shop and existing building of the yacht club. The organic shape of the building cooperates with the surrounding terrain of the parcel. The building is on the east side completely set in gently sloping terrain. Angled surfaces of the glass facades on the southwest side comply with the promontory shape of the reservoir. The Individual components abstract the elements of a cruise ship. The object has longitudinal character. Bevelled wooden surfaces of the roof symbolize boarding pier to a boat. People can freely promenade here, and enjoy the view to the lake and its surroundings. There is a big view opening to the exterior part of the restaurant on the boarding slant at the northern side. In winter, this areas can serve to children as bobsled. The pavement form the street Přístavní extends to the accessible part of the roof. The entrances are situated to the west. Supplying for the restaurant will be provided by delivering supplies along the street Přístavní. The building is divided into two functional entities - restaurant and port terminal. The interior is based on the concept of Plan Libre. The restaurant smoothly changes in a waiting area for passengers. There is a staircase located in the middle of this open space, which connects the first floor to the second floor above. There is also a staircase that leads to the basement. Immobile or less fit people can reach each of the floors by elevator, which is also located in this central area. From the second floor it is possible to access to the roof
There's black and white, day and night, good and evil, yin and yang. It all just balances itself out.
Ilič, Risto ; Kořínková, Jana (referee) ; Mazanec, Martin (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis "There's Black and White, Day and Night, Good and Evil, Ying and Yang" follows the three-year existence of the collective "Ugly Brno" and its work, which is based on the still current, local phenomenon of redesigning of advertising banners and shields in the context of small businesses located in the Brno city center. Specifically, it focuses on emerging designs combining black and white. The output of this bachelor's thesis is a video – a fictional interview in which Black and White are personified as two confident, eccentric personalities, quasi-experts in today's visual culture and the ultimate guarantors of taste, who conquered the city of Brno with their realizations. The objective of this thesis is to reveal the mythology behind the popularity of black and white combination in the context of visual culture, particularly in graphic design and its connection to the problematics of gentrification and capitalism. Another objective is to use sarcasm and irony to create a reflection of a culture whose values are elitism, workaholism, perfectionism, disregard for alternatives and an emphasis on efficiency. Why is it that in such a culture, black and white has gained more and more popularity than ever before?
lncRNA MIAT expression in cancer cells.
Jursová, Pavlína ; Eckschlager, Tomáš (advisor) ; Sztacho, Martin (referee)
LncRNAs have been shown, in many cases, to function as important regulators for gene expression and thus, they can play a critical role in various biological functions and disease processes including cancer. Myocardial infarction associated transcript (MIAT) is one of the non-coding RNAs first identified as lncRNA in 2006 and originally isolated as a candidate gene for myocardial infarction. This long non-coding RNA is also involved in other diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, paranoid schizophrenia or microvascular dysfunction. MIAT has also been identified as a carcinogenic regulator in many malignant tumors. Numerous researches have reported that MIAT silencing reduces cell viability, proliferation and invasivity and enhances cellular senescence and apoptosis of cancer cells. Therefore, it is considered a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in cancer. MIAT is involved in cellular processes through various mechanisms. It regulates alternative splicing, gene expression or functions through ceRNA mechanism and thus influences biological processes related to the tumor formation. Furthermore, in this study have been found that relative expression of MIAT was increased in Ewing sarcoma cell lines.

The transformation of Adalbert Stifter`s mother land from 1945 by today.
HENDRYCH, Jiří
The topic of the thesis is a description of the Adalbert Stifter´s land changes since 1945 by present. It is not only a physical transformation of the land which is focused here but also cultural, social, ecological, economical, demographical and sociologic changes. From the view of the regions, the thesis deals with five most important towns: Horní Planá (Oberplan), Černá v Pošumaví (Schwarzbach), Frymburk (Friedberg), Lipno nad Vltavou (Lippen) and Přední Výtoň (Herrauffl). Other places are mentioned marginally due to the extent of the thesis. The first chapter reminds the most famous native Adalbert Stifter. A special attention is payed to the artist´s relation to his native land and his humane Europeanish attitudes. the second chapter deals with the local Sudet Germans´ transfer after the end of the WWII and the situation in the land by 1948. The third chapter is very short, it describes a short period after 1948 and from the view of time it overlaps with the following chapter partly. There is the building of the Lipno dam in the fourth chapter and all the changes of the land which relate to it. In the last, fifth chapter, there is a description of the villages development after 1989. The german natives relations reunion is focused in this chapter as well as the cultural and social life, turism and the perspectives of the land for the future. Many sources have been used for making the thesis, information are from people who remember the events, local chronicles, Czech and German literature,
