Both communities have different opinions on security issues, therefore the shift in threat perception is desired. Historical disputes, absence of common identity and economic backwardness of Turkish Cypriots need to be overcomed. The future development will depend on the willingness of both parties to achieve a settlement based on compromise. International community should demonstrate that it will be able to garantee timely and precise implementation of relevant future agreement.
