Bible and Its Exegesis in the Letter of Aristeas

The thesis focuses on analysing the reflection of Jewish exegetical techniques and methods in The Letter of Aristeas. The thesis tries to answer the question, whether and how the author of The Letter of Aristeas knew and used Jewish exegetical methods and individual stories and teachings derived from the Bible by means of interpretation. The possible influences of Greek thought and culture on the author and his exegetical methods are also discussed. The first chapter deals with the book's content and its most important features. The second chapter focuses on the Greek influence on the book. The third chapter is concerned with the relationship between the Bible and The Letter of Aristeas. It deals with the author's concepts and thoughts about the origin and inspiration of the Bible. The literary incorporation of biblical motives and themes into the book's narrative is also mentioned in this chapter. The fourth chapter analyses the individual Jewish exegetical methods utilized by the author and comments on the sharing of interpretations between Palestine and the diaspora. City as a fictional character in the postmodernist novel: Alexandria Quartet and The Moor's Last Sigh

in English This Bachelor thesis engages with the topic of a portrayal of the city in the postmodern novel which is then studied on the example of two chosen novels: Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell and The Moor's Last Sigh by Salman Rushdie. Both novels present the urban space as a female character with a strong influence upon the events and the formation of the protagonist's identity. The second chapter is dedicated to a theoretical framework which helps to establish what we can understand under the term modernist literature and it traces the basic features such a literature possesses. For this framework I adopted the study of postmodernism presented by the work of Linda Hutcheon, mostly her A Poetics of Postmodernism. A special attention is dedicated to the aspects of postmodernism that can be applied on the portrayal of space and the relationship existing between postmodernism and modernism. The third chapter outlines the basic concepts of space established by modernism. The major concepts dealt with in this thesis are: subjectivity, perspective, palimpsest and myth. The bachelor thesis deals with doctrine by Philo of Alexandria. The first part describes about life of Philo and city Alexandria during his life. Also there is a mention about the authors who he admires most. Next it explains character of his writings, what other authors said about it and its importance for future generations. In the second part there is a description of virtue in general and one of the cardinal virtue - wisdom. It mentions extracts of Philo's writings, which are related to wisdom and how Philo comprehend it. All his writings coincide that wisdom is very important virtue and it is gift from God, which we should appreciate. In the last part there is a chapter about sins against wisdom, which we could have committed. In conclusion, there is a statement about that important thing is to find in all the golden mean.
The role and differences of traditional international trade centers

The thesis discusses the differences and the role of the traditional centers of international trade. It is conducted through comparative analysis of the two ports in the open and closed economy - Rotterdam and Alexandria. In the first chapter, that is based on the theoretical and analytical frame, are specified the relevant facts and empirical findings in the field of international trade, centers of the international trade and maritime transport. The second chapter named Characterization and comparison of national economies deeper investigates the environment in which are the selected ports located. Chapter three and four deal with the Rotterdam respectively Alexandria in the detail view consisting of a historical context, profile and description of the port, the commodity structure, current development, future plans, related industrial regions and areas. The last chapter contains a comparison of the Rotterdam and Alexandria, including SWOT analysis.
