The phenomenon of the new
Hodec, Markus E. ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (advisor) ; Stenger, Georg (referee) ; Schmiedl-Neuburg, Hilmar (referee)
The present work on the phenomenon of the new sees itself as an introductory structure of kainology. In doing so, it is pursuing two goals. On the one hand, it seeks the establishment of a new philosophical concept and an independent philosophical method, kainology. On the other hand, the main scope of this investigation applies to the problematization of the phenomenon of the new. In order to take a systematic look at the new, the work is divided into three sections, each of which produces its own partial result. The first section deals with the history of the new. Exemplifying the ontological opposition of Heraclitus and Parmenides, the new emerges as a phenomenon that can be treated more precisely in terms of becoming rather than in terms of being. The second section is dedicated to the method. The kainological method is based on the one hand on dialectics as formulated by Hegel and further developed by Adorno. On the other hand, kainology borrows from the method of phenomenology, namely Husserl's. The complementarity of the two pioneering achievements results in four main methodological elements for kainology: first person singular, from fact to Wesen, the included middle and subject-object. After the history of the new has been traced and the method of kainology established, it is time to examine the...

Title: First Metamorphosis of the Frankfurt School Author: Bc. Karel Chlouba Abstract: This thesis deals with first metamorphosis of the Frankfurt School - its origins, deve- lopement and historical context. The developement of this metamorphosis of critical theory is split into three parts within this work: first part elaborates individual moments and motives of this positive dialectic and also observes the develomepent of skepticism within it; second part elaborates the sceptical turn itself and the third part deals with the negative dialectics mainly presented within the work The Dialectic of Enlightenment. This thesis aims mainly on thought of Max Horheimer as a leader of the circle of thin- kers. Although he is not always the most powerful source of insight in this circle, he is the one who controls the direction of its thinking. Key words: Adorno, Horkheimer, Marcuse, critical theory of society, sociology, ra- cionality, science, theory, reason, change, alternative, dialectic, enligh- tenment viii

Adorno's critique of mass culture in light of Hegel's aesthetics.
Kvapil, Matouš ; Paulíček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Horák, Vít (referee)
Often now talking about the decline or disaffection of arts, which is often associated with negative influences of mass culture. I try to explore these negative influences of mass culture, especially in music. For this purpose I use criticism of mass culture by Theodor W. Adorno, one of the representatives of the Frankfurt School. Music by its criticism loses its original purpose. It gets parasitic and fetish character, disappearing from it all individuality and spirituality and becomes a mere commodity made for consumption only. Through the Aesthetics by G.W.F. Hegel I will shortly introduce the philosophical conception of arts and I'll try to look into the original nature and purpose of arts, as it Hegel describes. Then I valorize the mutual relation of both conceptions and show that the characteristics of mass culture are incompatible with the true nature and purpose of arts. At the end I will try to point out perhaps too skeptical and resolute sight that Adorno in his critique presents. I will try to show that despite all the negative effects of mass culture, there is still room for a serious production and music can still be made true to its original nature and purpose. Keywords music, arts, culture, aesthetics, mass culture, cultural industry, Hegel, Adorno
