Nožička, Josef ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Kvaček, Robert (referee)
This graduation thesis is focused on the children's magazine "Mladý hlasatel", which was published by "Melantrich" publishing house during 1935-1941, and his role from September 1937 to September 1938. This thesis would like to analyse principal aspects of its history, especially its influence on readers' interest in issues of active national and state defence. The branches of this analysis are these: current news, belletristic, instructional and educational articles. It also tried to describe the relationship between "Mladý hlasatel" and the other newaspapers and magazines published by "Melantrich", to compile the c. v. of Břetislav Mencák, editor of "Mladý hlasatel". At the same time it found and rebutted many mistakes and inaccuracies, which were unknown. It essentially made visual available this otherwise hard accessible magazine. This thesis would like to be a contribution to the history of "Mladý hlasatel", and to the history of Czech children's magazines and point to the neglected problem of a children's role and potentialities during the Czechoslovak crisis 1938.
100 years since the foundation of Czechoslovakia: Anniversary year 2018 in the main evening news program of Czech Television
Rybáčková, Nikola ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
This master's thesis focuses on how the Czech Television covered the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia in its main evening news program. It was an important theme of the whole year 2018, it wasn't the only anniversary we commemorated in that year, though. In 2018, eighty years have passed since the signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938 and seventy years since the 1948 Czechoslovak coup d'état. It's also been fifty years since the Prague Spring and the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Last but not least, we celebrated twenty-five years since the founding of the Czech Republic in 1993. All these events are significant milestones in Czech and world history of the twentieth century. Therefore, the thesis analyzes to what extent Czech Television dealt with these events. The aim of the thesis is to get an insight into the coverage of this topic throughout the year 2018 and to find out how much space was provided for each anniversary and what the nature of the posts was.

Foitová, Markéta ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Sekera, Martin (referee)
This thesis aims to evaluate the historical context, atmosphere and social and political events of the 1930s through the work of a weekly political magazine 'Pritomnost'. Firstly, the historical development of the magazine is introduced. Moreover, the situation of the mass media in the country during this time period is evaluated. Furthermore, the emphasis is put on the two core personalities of the magazine Ferdinand Peroutka and Milena Jesenska. Secondly, crucial articles of the magazine are analysed. For the purposes of this thesis articles from the periods of 'Second Republic' and 'Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia' were used. The thesis reflects the work of 'Pritomnost' until its suspension. In its analyses of the articles this thesis evaluates the main focus of the magazine, views of the editorial board and the atmosphere of the time. Quotations of these articles have been contextualised to accurately represent the historical events and options given to the editors by the censorship. In the conclusion the findings are summarised and the aims of the thesis are evaluated. The appendices show some key documents related to the magazine's journalistic work.
The end of the german press in the Karlsbad region in 1938 and 1945
Tesařová, Michaela ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Krejcar, Robert (referee)
My thesis aims to analyse German written periodicals published in Karlovy Vary region, which were discontinued in 1938 and 1945. This paper analyses last issues of Volkswille and Karlsbader Tageszeitung (earlier known as Deutsche Tageszeitung), published in last week of their existence and Elbogener Zeitung in its last month of publishing. My goal is to establish not only changes in contents and editorial staff, but also to find out whether it was clearly stated that these papers will cease to exist or it was only indirectly hinted. I also focus on further lives of employees of mentioned periodicals and publishing houses after their work ended. Introductory part concerns itself with important historical events mainly of 1930s and 1940s that influenced both the living conditions in Karlovy Vary region and activities of regional media. Equally important is also coexistence of Czechs and Germans in our region, developing since 12th century. Given the subject of my thesis special emphasis is given to the Czech-German relations in vicinity of Karlovy Vary from 1930s till the end of World War II.
