The fight for fetal rights: pro-life discourse in the contemporary Czech media

This bachelor thesis unravels one of the highly debated topics of the current culture wars, that of the right of the unborn to live versus the right of a woman to undergo a legal abortion. The thesis primarily focuses on the contemporary Czech pro-life movement and its impact in the media space. The goal is to describe and reflect the specific character, ideological background and discursive strategies of the Czech anti-abortion scene. The work sets the issue in the context of current socio-political events and presents the influences that forms the distinctive narratives in the abortion debate.

The end of the first wave of feminism in Czechoslovakia

This bachelor Thesis deals with the question of the end of the first wave of feminism and the decline of the feminist movement in interwar Czechoslovakia, considering the development until 1948. The Thesis presents and analyses the reasons why, despite a progressive constitution and an emancipation-leaning society, it was not possible to achieve a greater gender equality. The Thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part presents the theoretical framework of the first wave of feminism and the feminist movement, as well as the historical context of Czech and Czechoslovakian feminism. The second part problematizes political system in Czechoslovakia in relation to women's emancipation, especially parliamentarism, the party system, the limits of democracy, and also the concept of the family. The third part of the Thesis describes and analyses the feminist movement as such, its relationship to the state and society, its strategies and ideological foundations, the formation of women's group consciousness, the mobilization potential of the women's movement and the relationship between democracy and feminism. The adverse life conditions of single mothers in the Czech Republic and their possible solutions from the perspective of social work

This assessment deals with very discussed topic in the field of social work, women, who raise their children themselves. The term single parent is explained in the introduction part of the assessment followed by terms family functions, incomplete families and their breakdown. This is followed by intorudction of economic impacts, poverty feminisation and women rights. Then the assessment addresses the support of women. The goal of this assessment was to introduce life of single mothers and to find out which economic aspects have an impact on their life standards based on expert resources, literature and conducted survey. To complete the goal, a qualitative survey was used based on half-structured interviews. The results of the survey are examined in the following discusion, then repeated in general at the final stage of the assessment which is supposed show the importance of single parenting in our society and the difficulties single mothers have to face. These difficulties are the hardship of finding an employment, a life balance between work and parenting and caring for children, shortage of pre-school and childcare services, and stigmatisation in the society. This assessment is also dedicated to everyone, who wants to gain a deeper insight in to the single parenting topic and how single mothers live and cope.

The status of female lawyers as a theme of the Czech Women's Movement during the First Czechoslovak Republic.

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the activities which were carried out by the activist Czech women's movement in the fight for better status of female lawyers in the First republic. The aim of this thesis is to find an answer to the research question "How did the Czech women's movement get involved in the question of the position of female lawyers during the First Republic?" Women were allowed to study at law school within the new republic. After finishing their studies, women wanted to work in the legal professions, which was very difficult despite the fact that women had the equal rights as men thanks to the constitution. Female lawyers were unjustifiably rejected and discriminated against. The Women's National Council, headed by Františka Plamínková and the Association of University-educated Women, tried to solve this situation. Legal department, whose mission was to ensure equal conditions for female lawyers, was established in 1925 within the association . The main goal was to mediate employment of female lawyers in the judicial service and in the conceptual state service. Women's Rights in the Middle East and their Perception in Czechia

Women's rights in the Islamic world are a questionable topic. Significant differences between individual countries and regions are often not taken into account and many reasons and factors that generate such conditions for women are being neglected. This presented bachelor thesis aims at presenting the status of women in the Middle East on the basis of statistical data in comparison with men. The second part intends to confront these results with the feelings and opinions of employs of Czech non-governmental organisations who visited the Middle East. The thesis presents economic rights, civil rights, political rights, education and health of women in 21 selected countries of the region, together with the interpretation of possible causes and factors limiting women's rights. The master thesis "Czech women on their way to emancipation" is dealing with the changes of Czech society which took place during the 19th and 20th century and which are influencing the contemporary Czech society until today. This thesis is putting contemporary gender - topics in connection with political background, equal possibilities of men and women in the public and in the private sphere of life. The work is dealing with three main topics. The first is speaking about the historical development and traditional opinions on the role of women and men. The second topic is focussed on the period of the Czechoslovak socialist state and the third part is focussed on the Czech society of today.

Protection of reproductive rights in the case law of European Court of Human Rights Abstract Irrespective of the fact that reproduction and sexuality are very intimate issue for each person, reproductive rights very often face restrictions, doubts, and attacks. This is also the case in Europe. Hence this paper deals with the topic of protection of reproductive rights in Europe, more specifically with the stance on the protection of these rights by the European Court of Human Rights. The aim of this paper is to explore the stance of ECHR on the protection of these rights. The author of the paper asks the research question: What is the position of ECHR regarding the protection of reproductive rights? At the same time, the paper points out to certain defects in the Czech legal regulation which could, arguably, lead to violation of the European Convention on Human Rights. The paper uses the method of critical analysis on the decisions of ECHR and evaluates the significance of these decisions. The paper uses the case law of ECHR as the primary source while drawing on subsidiary sources such as international organizations' documents or academic articles. Development of civil society organizations focusing on women's rights in Tunisia before and after the first democratic elections

In this master thesis I deal with civil society organizations in Tunisia with a focus on women's rights. Firstly, I present the conceptual frameworks I work with and I set the indicators on the basis of which I assess the organization. I present context in which organisations are operating, I describe the history of Tunisia and the state of women's rights in Tunisia. First I focus on the period before the first democratic elections, between 1987 and 2011, when president Zin Abidin bin Ali ruled. Then I move on to the period after the first democratic elections, which took place in 2011, until 2018. Subsequently, I compare the functioning of civil society organisations with a focus on women's rights in these two periods. I discuss what organizations have to deal with during their operation, what influences them and what problems they concentrate on within the framework of women's rights. I collect information and data using document analysis, and then analyze the data with open coding.

Analysis of the level of women´s empowerment in Southeast Asia and suggestions for further improvement

The diploma thesis proceeds from the well-established theoretical assumption that the empowerment of women and promotion of gender equality is not only moral goal in itself but also the only way towards development of a nation as it, in the end, benefits the entire society. Case study, tracking the progress of women´s empowerment in ten countries of Southeast Asia over the last 25 years was used to provide for clear comparison. Further examination of the five selected indicators of women´s empowerment - adolescent fertility, contraceptive prevalence, total fertility, employment and political representation - revealed both the strongest and the weakest parts of each country. These findings were later used to propose tailored measures and policies, implementation of which could lead to further empowerment of women in Southeast Asia.
