Communities of millipedes (.i.Diplopoda./i.) and centipedes (.i.Chilopoda./i.) in changing conditions of montane spruce forests of the Šumava Mountains
Tajovský, Karel
In the nineties of the past century, large climax Norway spruce (.i.Picea abies./i.) areas of the Šumava Mountains were damaged by the bark beetle outbreak. The subsequent decay of spruce growths become the object of interest for management practice, nature protection as well as research activities. While the changes in forest growths under the bark beetle outbreak were well visible, there were no information about the impact of these processes and subsequent management practices used (clear cutting, spontaneous development of dead growths) on soil environments and existing communities of soil organisms. Within the soil zoological research in 1999-2010 near the localities Březník and Studená hora Mt., qualitative and quantitative parameters of millipede and centipede assemblages were studied in undamaged, damaged and dead forest stands, and in differently old clearings. Combination of methods of pitfall trapping and soil sampling served data about the composition and changes of communities of both invertebrate groups.

KOUŘIMOVÁ, Andrea

Evaluation of the turistics influence on the vegetation of National nature reserve "Čertova stěna - Luč"
FLUKSOVÁ, Hana
NNR Čertova stěna - Luč is at the eastern corner of Šumava Mts. region. The reasons for protection are mostly stony slopes, relict pine forests, acidophilous beech forests and Vltava river canyon. A part of my thesis is floristic list with view on each recognized habitat type and completation of the vegetation map. I also made transects perpendicular to places with highest turist movement (paths, railroad) and I evaluated changes in species diversity and coverage in dependence on distance from transect centre. The highest turistic influence is on the right bank of Vltava river near the lookout place, where the herbs are strongly influenced and their coverage strongly decreased up to 15 m distance from the path.
Conflicts as a possible way to sustainable development of Sumava Mts.?
Cudlínová, Eva
Šumava Mts. was taking as a so called marginal area – i.e. area on the random of economics and politics interest. Every attempt of development or natural or political change (there is five samples in the study) bring also some kind of conflict in the area. Anyway, respecting principles and basic indicators of sustainable development allows seeing the conflicts as a way to the multifunctional and sustainable landscape management.
Implementation possibilities of the Biosphere Reserve concept in the Bohemian Forest
Kušová, Drahomíra ; Těšitel, Jan ; Bartoš, Michael
Large scale protected areas have been considered as a promising way of nature protection. Its management, however, depends to a great extent on the way in which potential coflicts between nature protection measures and socio-economic aspirations of local population is treated. In this context the concept of biosphere reserve, as it was articulated in Sevilla in 1995, is suggested as an effcient tool to achieve the consensus among individual stakeholders. In order to dicuss the chance this concept to be practically implemented within ten years since its inception, three Czech biosphere reserves were analysed in a view of four missiones biosphere reserves are expected to fulfill. The acomplished analysis seem to confirm the fact that the present day Czech legislation enables three of the missions to be achieved, whereas the fourth – promotion of sustainable development – is more or less hindered.
Local traditions from the point of view of the host community and Šumava Mts. visitors
Těšitel, Jan ; Kušová, Drahomíra ; Bartoš, Michael
Sociological survey within the project "Strategy of sustainable development of the Šumava Biosphere Reserve" covers a broad range of traditions preserved in particular villages within the Šumava Mts. region. According to this survey 90% of local population claim that certain traditional habits exist in their village. On the other hand, interest in local tradition is also demonstrated by empirical results concerning the visitors to the region. These results were obtained during a questionnaire survey related to the project "The role of tourism in the Šumava Mts.region development". Only less than 30% of the visitors encountered some form of local tradition. Comparison of the results of both surveys showed certain disproportion between the potential and its realization. Our study aims at the evaluation of the extent to which local traditions actually contribute to tourism development within the region.
Preliminary results of releasing project for capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) in the Šumava Mts
Červený, Jaroslav ; Bufka, L. ; Hlavatá, A. ; Koubek, Petr
Releasing of artificially reared capercaillies to nature is one of the possibilities of saving or increasing free-living populations. However, it is usually considered to be a last chance for saving a disappearing species, sometimes even without looking at the state of the biotop.
