The Use of Children's and Young Adult Literature in History teaching in elementary school.

The submitteddiploma theses examines the possibilities of using children's and young adult literature in teaching History and considers its potential to fulfil goals of History class. Its theoretical part is devotedto currant discussiononthese goals and offers views of Czech and foreignexperts.An important part is examinationof existingmethodologies of workingwith fiction and consideration consider the benefits and risks that this medium offers. In the end of theses,twoteachinglessons are presented,whichare basedon contemporaryCzechworks from the ranks of literature for children and youth. These lessons were tested in primary schools and based on this experience, possible alternations to the program were added. Translation as a mode of culturally educating activities of Božena Šimková

The thesis focuses on culturally educating activities of Božena Šimková aimed at children and teenagers. Both her own literary and her translation work are analysed in the thesis and the situation of original and translation creation at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries as well. Last part deals with translatological analyses of six representative extracts from her translation of Little women and tendencies drawn from this analysis are compared with some of her other translations.
