Representation of voluntary childlessness in online media
Veselovská, Jana Emilie ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Supa, Markéta (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the media representation of voluntary childlessness. Published studies frame the issue of voluntary childlessness from a sociological or psychological point of view; in the media context, this topic is not much represented. As the existing media analyzes focused on print media, this work is focused on a different type - online media. The topic of voluntary childlessness is still perceived as controversial in society and social norms play a part in this. Although the concept of family and parenthood has evolved considerably, entrenched norms of parenthood still persist, as previous studies have shown. The media are an integral part of our daily lives, influencing our thinking and the way we look at the world around us, and they can strengthen or weaken these norms. The aim of this work is to map how the media represent voluntary childlessness and how they portray voluntary childless people.
North Korea's media construction under Kim Jong - il and Kim Jong - un rulership
Peka, David ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
North Korea is one of the most isolated countries in the world. The media therefore play an important role in shaping the image of this country abroad. The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out how Czech online media represented the DPRK between 2010 and 2012, when the power was transferred from Kim Jong-il to Kim Jong-un. In the first part of the thesis, I qualitatively analysed 48 articles from five Czech online media: lidovky.cz, novinky.cz, iHNed.cz, respekt.cz and reflex.cz. I chose grounded theory as a research technique. However, the aim of the research was not to build the theory itself, but to conceptualize and describe the relations among the individual media representations of the DPRK. The analysis revealed that the online media reported on the DPRK mainly in connection with country's poor economic situation and with related deep inequalities between the ruling class and people. The transfer of power in North Korea was reported by Czech media in connection with Kim Jong-il's poor health. After his death, the media focused on uncertainty about the country's future. At the end of the period the media represented Kim Jong-un as the new North Korean leader, who was seeking for his own ruling style, which was based on the cult of personality.
Media image of Czech football referees
Reisner, Rudolf ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (advisor) ; Turková, Kateřina (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on the media image of Czech football referees in connection with two problematic causes and also contains the research of public opinion about the activities of Czech football referees. Both mentioned cases took place in the Czech football background during the 2015/2016 league season. The first case concerns to the statements of former referee Libor Kovařík and his several other colleagues against the functioning of the referees commitee of the Football Association of the Czech Republic and against alleged practices of the vice-chairman of the Czech football association, Roman Berbr. Kovařík's confession about the alleged situation in the Czech football was published in Czech journal Sport in August 2015, and consequently evoked concerns in the Czech football scene. The second case, which was analyzed in the context of the referees, was the officiating of the first-league match between Příbram and Slavia Praha by drunken referees Marek Pilný and Jiří Jech in May 2016. The relevant media contributions in the three news online servers focusing on sports, namely isport.blesk.cz, sport.idnes.cz and sport.cz, are analysed by the qualitative analysis. The research of public opinion about the activities of Czech football referees is also part of this thesis.
