Diet of Patients with Histamine Intolerance and General Knowledge about this Issue in the Czech Republic
VRÁNKOVÁ, Jana
The topic of this thesis is nutrition in patients with histamine intolerance and the general knowledge about this issue in Czechia. The theoretical framework describes the hista-mine function in human body, following chapters are dedicated to the mechanism of histamine intolerance itself, its clinical manifestation, diagnostics and treatment. In the practical part, two goals were established. The first goal was a comparison of knowledge about this issue between general public and expert community. The second goal was to determine knowledge about this topic in patients with histamine intolerance. For the first goal, quantitative research using scored questionnaire was used. This form was answered by 280 respondents from both expert and general public fields. For the second goal, qualitative method was chosen, using a questionnaire with broader scope. The questions were focused on clinical manifestation, diagnostics, treatment and general knowledge regarding histamine intolerance. Sampling in qualitative research consisted of 20 respondents, patients with histamine intolerance. Also, as part of the qualitative research, the diet of the respondents with histamine intolerance was analyzed using "Nutriservis" software. In the quantitative research, comparing awareness of histamine intolerance, the experts proved to be more successful based on the points scored. This difference, however, was not very significant. In the quantitative research, the fundamental results corresponded with the data from other professional studies in this field, citing gastrointestinal issues as the most common. Also, the difficulty in diagnosing HIT was affirmed, given that in 60% of respondents it took years before HIT was diagnosed. The dietary analysis has shown substantially lower energy intake in patients following the initial strict elimination diet. My work can, to some extent, increase the public awareness about histamine intolerance.
The influence of new natural gas sources on energy security in the USA
Vránková, Jana ; Neumann, Pavel (advisor) ; Vošta, Milan (referee) ; Baláž, Peter (referee) ; Pospíšil, Jiří (referee)
The thesis focuses on the influence of new natural gas sources on energy security in the USA. The new sources include mainly shale gas, but also tight gas and others. The main objective of the thesis is to evaluate the impact of changes in production and trade in gas on energy security and self-sufficiency of the USA. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is theoretic and thus provides the frameworks for the following parts of the thesis. It focuses on the security concept in literature and in the papers of international energy agencies, e.g. IEA. For the purposes of the thesis, energy security is defined as the ability of a state to secure uninterrupted and stable supply of energy at a reasonable price of sufficiently diversified energy sources, which can be flexibly substituted among each other without additional costs by the end consumers. The second chapter concentrates on energy security in the USA, the development of energy legislation and the position of the United States in international comparison from this point of view. The third chapter deals with the technical background of production and its legislative status of the USA. To compare, it also addresses the production legislation in some EU countries. It follows up market implications of increased domestic production, specifically its profitability, changes in energy mix and in trading position of the USA in energy sources. The fourth chapter analyzes price impacts using change in domestic and foreign demand and supply in natural gas, including their price elasticity, and the price development itself. The fifth chapter summarizes, based on the findings from previous chapters, perspectives of the future development, mainly impacts on economy and potential export. The thesis comes to the main conclusion stating that the production from domestic sources shall have a positive impact on energy security not only in the USA, but also consecutively in other countries dependent on import of energy sources through higher diversification of source countries. Better available commodity may contribute to greater price competitiveness of domestic products on international markets and help to substitute coal with gas in energy mix. The biggest risk is seen in the low gas price that makes the production economically unprofitable. However, the gas price should maintain the level which would allow for profit of the producers, reasonable price for the consumers and increased level of energy security thanks to further development of the production technology, its better price availability and increased demand on cleaner energy sources.
Impacts of protectionism in the current crisis: case study NAFTA
Vránková, Jana ; Hnát, Pavel (advisor) ; Neumann, Pavel (referee)
Tendecies to protectionism appeared in all crisis so far. The current one is no exception. Used protecting tools are the characteristics what differentiate them. The most used tools are non-tarrif measures, especially technical. Governments also applied stimulus packages which often included buy-national type of activities. The thesis concetrates on the roots of the changed pattern in the global economy. It investigates the influence of WTO, which liberalizes the world trade on the multilateral basis. On the other hand, the thesis focuses on regionalism and regional integrations, that liberalize trade only among few involved countries. The thesis also reflects the division of the world to developing and developed countries and describes differences in used measures. The case study investigates the North American Free Trade Agreement, which includes one developing and two developed countries. It also includes the world's biggest economy, whose behaviour heavily impacts the development of the global economy as a whole. This example illustrates differences in the measures used by governments of developing and developed coutries. It analyses influence of a regional integration to these measures and compares it to the influence of WTO. The possibilities of further enlargement of the free trade area and of involving the member countries to other integrations are reflected as well.
Position of Sweden in the Frame of the European Integration Processes
Vránková, Jana ; Hnát, Pavel (advisor) ; Jelínek, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis is focused on the position of Sweden in the frame of the european integration process since Second World War. It emphasises the development of traditional swedish neutrality in international relations, entry to the European Free Trade Association, and later to the European Union. The other part is concetrated on current problems and challenges, such as euro acceptation, youth unemployment, fiscal sustainability, and imigration. The last chapter has a comparative character and compares Sweden from different points of view to its nearest geographical, and cultural neighbors. These are Denmark, and Finland.
