Christians and Politics from the View of the New Testamental Texts
Grobelný, Miroslav ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
The title of this degree work is "Christians and Politics from the View of the New Testamental Texts". The main purpose is to identify various aspects of the view at the political power in the texts of the New Testament, to make a judgement about these texts on the background of its historical and literary context and to look for its common topics. In this thesis we went into details about relatively great number of passages with the goal to attain the global point of view. At the beginning we justified why to look for the inspiration in the life of Jesus Christ. Then we focused on Jesus' political principles. We treated conflicts between John the Baptist and Herod Antipas and conflicts between Jesus and political and religious leaders of his days. We focused mainly on the conflicts connected with the Jewish Law and paying taxes. Then we treated the conflict between Jesus and Pilate, which ended in Jesus' crucifixion. Then we briefly touched on the Paul's point of view and we mentioned several examples of the persecution of the Christians from the pagans. At the end we made an attempt to resume briefly what the New Testament says about the relationship of the Christians to the political power and we joined the short mention about the relationship between the Church and the state in the social doctrine of...

Zemanová, Radka ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
This diploma thesis "Love as the Greatest Commandment" contains an interpretation of verses that deal with the Double Commandment of Love. First, it deals with the biblical understanding of the concept of commandments in general. It then deals with the commandment of love in the Old Testament, where it is found in two places: in the books of Deuteronomy and Leviticus. In the New Testament, it appears in conversation with the scribe in all the synoptic Gospels, which are first discussed separately and then their comparison is given. Furthermore, The New Commandment, which is found in the Gospel of John, and finally selected verses from the First Epistle of John are explained. Following is a summary, update and conclusion.
Effects of Hellenic Philosophy on the Image of Creation and of human being in the Book of Wisdom and Sirach
Matějů, Hana ; Větrovec, Pavel (advisor) ; Hřebík, Josef (referee)
Práce předkládá Platónovu kosmogonii prezentovanou v díle Timaios a porovnává ji s obrazem Božího stvoření v knihách Moudrosti a Sírachovec.

Adolf Vykopal (1910-1975): His Life and Work
Vlček, Tomáš ; Bartoň, Josef (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
Adolf Vykopal (1910-1975): His Life and Work This thesis reconstructs the life of a Moravian Catholic priest, doctor of theology and emigrant Adolf Vykopal. A recent publication of one of his books in Italy (Morcelliana, 2013) gave the impulse that eventually resulted in writing this thesis. The research was particularly difficult for the simple fact that he spent the majority of his life abroad. He lived in Luxembourg, Belgium, France and most importantly in Italy. His name is almost unknown in the Czech academia although he published two books and several articles in the 30s and 40s. That is also the reason why there is almost no secondary literature about him. My work is therefore based on an archive research including personal archive materials. His main interests were the social and economical issues of his age. He tried to see them in the Christian perspective and offer a solution. However, his interests were much wider than that, ranging from Czech biblical translation and Church Fathers to systematic theology. The second part of my thesis focuses on his work and proposes a detailed overview of all the books and articles of his that I have managed to collect. The reader should get a complex perspective concerning this exceptional figure of Czech and European Catholic Church of 20th century.
Representation of God's Creation in Psalms
Hraba, Jaroslav ; Větrovec, Pavel (advisor) ; Hřebík, Josef (referee)
The bachelor thesis "The image of God's creation in the Psalms" deals with the picture of creation in the Psalms and its theological significance, with a view to describing the creation in the first chapters of the book Genesis. The analytical part contains an exegesis of selected biblical texts from the books Genesis, Psalms and Daniel; the systematic part summarizes the findings. The executed exegesis found that images of creation in the Bible also contain elements of myths of polytheistic cosmogonia. The work to a certain extent shows the intentional use of such elements for the defense of the monotheistic faith and the Hebrew cosmogony. It further develops the symbolic interpretation of some images of creation in Psalms and other biblical books. The result of the work is the presentation of sufficient material from which there is a clear connection between the theology of creation and soteriology. Keywords God, the Lord, the Creator, the Psalms, Genesis, creation, images of creation, cosmogony, polytheistic mythology.
Prophetic phenomenon and women in Old Testament
Pejsar, Luboš ; Větrovec, Pavel (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The bachelor thesis "The Prophetic Phenomenon and Women in the Old Testament" represents prophecy as a phenomenon, with its characteristics typical of the biblical environment. Its three parts are descriptive. The work looks and describes the prophetic phenomenon as it appears in the writings of the Old Testament. As a context, it is necessary in the introduction to make a preview of the prophecy in its development in the environment that formed Israel. Part of this introduction will be a look at the woman through the eyes of the Old Testament. Individual prophecies will be described in a section that will focus on the prophecy in the broader sense, that is, in the way that the texts themselves allow. For comparison, prophetic and secular religious systems will be mentioned in the surrounding peoples. Three women were selected for work: Mirjam, Debora and Chulda. The last part of the thesis will be devoted to the conclusion that summarizes the knowledge gained during the work. The passages of the Holy Scripture according to the Ecumenical Edition will be used in the text. Keywords prophecy; woman; religion; oracle; magic
Israel's Tradition and Helenization at the Time of Re-consecration of the Second Temple
Tlustošová, Adéla ; Ondrejičková, Sylva (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
Traditions of Israel and Hellenization in the era of the re-consecration of the Second Temple. My bachelor degree thesis focuses on the theme of Hanukkah, the feast anchored in Israel's history. Mainly, I deal with the period in which a miracle occurred during the re- consecration of the second Temple. This story can be found in the deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament, in the books of Maccabees, and later also in the interpretation of Antiquities of the Jews by Josephus Flavius. This thesis discusses the historical and cultural context of the time in Judea which preceded the re-consecration. It analyses the relationship between the forcible Hellenization of Judea and the subsequent Maccabean uprising, which was a response to the ever-worsening living conditions of the Jews. The Jews were striving for freedom that had been denied to them by Seleucid rulers, for religious freedom, and ultimately for political freedom as well. In the second half of my thesis, I acquaint the reader with the re-consecration of the Temple, miraculously connected with important rulings adopted by the assembly of Israel. Since that time on, this feast has reminded annually the loyalty of the Jews and examples of martyrs that will even in the future strengthen the value of scarifying one's life for the faith in the Lord in...
Jehovah's Witnesses - the Development of Selected Doctrines
Velechovský, Petr ; Bartoň, Josef (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
The Jehovah's Witnesses and the company Watchtower are quite known to the public. Since the foundation of the Jehovah's Witnesses, thousands of articles in the press tried, less or more successfully, to describe their history. When we come out of the perspective, that they publish only truth about themselves, we would have to conclude, that they are the best religious organization on the world. Since 1998 I have published many articles intentionally dedicated to the issues of Jehovah's Witnesses and other new religious movements in these journals: Dingir - religionistic journal about current religious scene, Rozmer - a journal for Christian spiritual orientation, and Sects and Facts. I also refuted the errors and mistakes published by others about their organization. The aim was to publish truthful information that is not commonly available to their members and the public. In the era of the internet and digitalized archives it would seem that it's no longer needed. Various information can be found on the internet, but they are valuable only when properly verified and, if possible, taken from primary sources. That's why it's necessary to have the critical view on the teachings of the Witnesses and objectively evaluate the danger that comes from their teachings to the believers and unbelievers. The...
