"Being close to another person, being with them, that's the most important thing - in love, in life and in dying." Being close to another person is a basic and easily attainable need for a healthy person. Spending time with either our family relatives or friends is actually quite simple for the majority of us. Foremostly, we just put our work aside and sit on a bus, train, or plane and after a certain period of time we can be together with our closest loved ones. However, for the families with disabled children it is not that easy. If the family finds itself in a difficult life situation, often the simple “being around” might be challenging. For this particular reason, my thesis proposal aims to create a safe place for all of those who could possibly end up in a such situation – children hospital where a person can be available for a help any time needed.
Application of Specific UV Absorbance (SUVA) for natural organic matter characterization
Vítková, Tereza ; Pivokonský, Martin (advisor) ; Načeradská, Jana (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the characterization of parameter of specific UV absorbance (SUVA), which has currently been used during water treatment to estimate the potential of natural organic matter (NOM) to form by-products of water disinfection. SUVA is defined as the ratio of absorbance at 254 nm and the values of the concentration of dissolved carbon (DOC). First, SUVA was used as a surrogate parameter instead of more complex measurements to assess the potential formation of trihalomethanes (THMs) (Edzwald et al., 1985). Currently ability of the parameter SUVA to predict the formation of individual classes of DBPs (Disinfection By-Products) on hygiene of drinking water has been studied most. Most of the studies examine in particular the formation of THMs and HAAs (Haloacetic Acids) which are strictly regulated because of their harmful effect for the environment and human health. Its questionless advantage is a quick and easy setting directly in the water treatment plants. However, the existing studies provide quite contradictory conclusions regarding its practical benefits to predict how the water reacts with disinfectant and forms DBPs during the treatment. Based on the evaluation of the available literature SUVA seems to be more suitable for humic nature water which show high value SUVA...
The Means of Humor and Irony in Children's Literature by Lemonyho Snicketa and Roalda Dahla
Vítková, Tereza ; Provazník, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Brožová, Věra (referee)
The thesis deals with aspects of humor, concretely with means of humor in children's literature by Lemony Snicket (series called The Series of Unfortunate Events) and Roald Dahl {The Witches, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG). It deals with the choice and use of these means in order to cause humorous effect. It analyses the means of humor in categories of situation and language, also including the translation difficulties. Concerning the means of language, it deals with the category of sound and graphics (e.g.articulatory problems, onomatopoeic sounds and their graphic recording), of lexis, of syntax and additionally it defines figurative descriptions (e.g. comparison, oxymoron, etc.). The author also includes the issue of using verses in children's literature. Moreover, the paper deals with irony and absurdity and their humorous effect in this type of literature. It also includes a brief summary of both authors' biographies relevant to their following works. The aim of the thesis was especially to define the individual means of humor used by mentioned authors and to state, what the difference between the means used by them is.
Application of Specific UV Absorbance (SUVA) for natural organic matter characterization
Vítková, Tereza ; Pivokonský, Martin (advisor) ; Barešová, Magdalena (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the characterization of parameter of specific UV absorbance SUVA, which has currently been used during water treatment to estimate the reactivity of natural organic matter (NOM) to form byproducts of water disinfection. First, it was used to assess the potential formation of trihalogenmethane (THM) and it has been used instead of complicated measurement (Edzwald et al., 1985). Since then, its use has amended several times and currently the SUVA ability to predict the formation of individual classes of DBPs (Disinfection By-Products) on hygiene of drinking water has been studied most. Most of the studies examine in particular the formation of THMs and HAAS (haloacetic acids) which are strictly regulated because of their harmful properties for the environment and human health. Its questionless advantage is a quick and easy setting directly in the water treatment plants. However, the existing studies provide quite contradictory conclusions regarding its practical benefits to really predict how the water reacts with disinfectant and forms DBPs during the treatment. Based on the evaluation of the available literature SUVA seems to be more suitable for humic nature water which is similar with its physical properties. Vice versa, using SUVA for water containing AOM is...
Eating disorders in women elite sport
Vítková, Tereza ; Hrachovinová, Tamara (advisor) ; Rolederová, Iva (referee)
The thesis is focused on the issue of eating disorders in women elite sport and topics related to their causes, prevalence, symptoms, consequences and prevention. The project also investigates personality characteristics of athletes with eating disorders and social factors influencing performance and onset of disorders. The aim of the empirical part is to provide insight into the issue of eating disorders in women elite sport and indicate the relationship between eating disorders and risk groups of sports and level of sport performance. The research proposal is of exploratory nature as it combines both qualitative and quantitative method. For diagnostic purposes Female Athlete Screening Tool and Eating Attitude Test will be used, followed by Eating Disorder Examination semi-structured interview in the qualitative part. The findings will serve as a starting point for subsequent research, in particular for the introduction of prevention programmes targeting specific risk groups of female athletes.
