Gabriel Cornelius von Max and Some Aspects of his Drawing - work

Gabriel Cornelius von Max and some aspects of his drawing-work This thesis deals with the painter Gabriel Cornelius von Max (1840-1915). The first part of the essay describes the life and the work of this Munich artist. His oil paintings were characterized by a naturalistic style influenced by mysticism and spiritism. He focused on symbolic aspects of painting. The intention of this thesis is to show Max a generalis with many specific interests, especially in science. He also founded a large naturalistic collection. The second part of the thesis is focused on a still unknown part of the artists' work, on his drawings. The aim in to present a collection of drawings from Gabriel Cornelius von Max, which is deposed in Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus und Kunstbau München, and to show in the context of the whole artistists' work. Reflection of history in the work of Mark Ther

Mark Ther is a remarkable figure of Czech art. He dedicates himself to a wide range of artistic expression (films, drawings, installations, etc.). He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he began making his short films. His work is associated with video art and queer cinema. No monograph has yet been written about Mark Ther. Published texts (catalogue introductions, interviews, etc.) are mainly devoted to his artistic activities. In this work, I focus on his short films, which are thematically clearly anchored in history. He has set his films for more than a decade in the past, to which he responds with the present. Still, the subjects Ther addresses are always very personal to him. He often draws on his own experience, or the history of his loved ones. History and the past are a reservoir for Ther, a treasure trove of human destinies. In my work, I deal with the reflection of history in his historical films. I'm looking for connections and their differences. As important as the historical stages, there are particular historical figures in Ther's films. These are both widely known figures (e.g. Maria Callas, Charles Baudelaire, Klaus Mann, Mitsuko Ajoama and others) and "small histories" of his relatives, or unknown "heroes". Félicien Rops in the Context of His Work and Time

Félicien Rops in the context his works and time is a dissertation thesis dedicated to the life and work of one of the most important representatives of artistic decadence and symbolism of the 19th century. Félicien Rops (1833-1898) was a Belgian graphic artist, illustrator and painter, whose artwork significantly influenced how the sensual beauty of the female body, human sexuality and the darker sides of the human soul were interpreted. The dissertation thesis systematically describes and analytically interprets Rops's life and work in historical, social and cultural context. The first part of the dissertation thesis discusses the early phase of Rops's life, mentions his childhood, schooling and the beginnings of artwork from his time in Brussels until his arrival in Paris. Here I focus mainly on Rops's activities in art circles, his attempts at raising the status of Belgian art within the wider European movement and his activity related to founding satirical periodicals. This phase of Rops's life was defined by his political and social caricaturist work, and was heavily influenced by Flemish tradition and French modern art.
