Food crisis in the ACP group of states in the early 21th century

We are at the crossroads of the most serious global financial, energetic and food crisis in modern history. In following bachelor thesis we have closely focused on food crisis in particular on the period of years 2006-2008. The primary goal of the thesis is to sum up and analyse possible reasons of current food crisis. Rapid increase in food prices hit worst the poor and vulnerable groups of people all over the world. Therefore in the centre of our attention are countries of Africa, Caribic and Pacific and consideration of impacts of food crisis on them. Part of this paper are also possible solutions while cooperating with developed contries. As partner for collaboration by diminishing impacts of food crisis and building food security in developing countries have been chosen the European union because of its longlasting relations with ACP group of states.
The Position of the American Dollar in the International Monetary System

This thesis discusses the position of the American dollar in the international monetary system. The first part is dedicated to the dollar and its role in the Bretton Woods system, the dollar standard and the current dollar situation. The second part is about the American dollar and its function as a trade and reserve currency. The third part shortly describes the difficulties of the American economy and the future perspectives of the dollar. The last chapter is devoted to a brief prediction of the evolution of the American economy and the influence of that evolution on the position of the dollar within the international monetary system.
Turkey as a candidate for membership of EU (with special regard on fulfilment of the Copenhagen criteria in political domain)

This thesis analyses the Turkish Republic with a view to its possible membership in European Union. The first section focuses on advantages and disadvantages resulting from this membership. Next section summarizes the degree of fulfilment of the political criteria of the Copenhagen criteria. The chapter is focusing principally on the level of democracy, complying with the human right and the rights of minorities. The dispute about splitted Cyprus is also mentioned.
Food crisis at the beginnig of the 21. century: causes and impacts on world economy

The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to explain causes and impacts of global food crisis in last years. The crisis is taken as the increase in prices of food commodities. In particular chapters I'm dealing with the factors which have caused the growth in food area as well as with their economic and social impacts. A part of the thesis is also a look on the impacts of the food crisis in different regions of the world. Included are also chapters about international organizations helping countries facing problems related to food crisis. In conclusion I have sketched some possible solutions that could help to slow down the phenomenon of increasing prices.
Japan and new regionalism

Japan is one of the most developed and strongest countries in the world. It is a member of many international organizations and it is becoming more and more active within regional integrations, too. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to follow the evolution of Japanese attitude towards regionalism, based on an analysis of its foreign policy and economic relations. The first chapter explains basic terms and theoretical background of regionalism and outlines the evolution of regionalism in Asia. The second chapter follows Japan in the stage of old regionalism, that is until the end of the 1980s. It concentrates on the post-war development of Japan and consolidation of mutual relations with its neighbours. The third chapter describes Japanese approach to regional integrations in the stage of new regionalism. It tries to explain the reasons for which Japan started to play a more active role in regional integrations and it outlines Japanese relations with several selected partners.
Present state and perspectives of fulfilling Millennium Development Goals in Africa

The objective of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the Millenium Development Goals project -- its procedures and up to now effects. I would like to try to find out if it is truth that activities of UN within this project have no results, eventually I would try to identify a problem and suggest possible solutions. The evaluation of this project is reduced to two of the total number of eight goals and to the region of Sub-Saharan Africa. First part of this work describes a subject-matter and a purpose of this project. It is concerned with theme poverty and with a historical background of rise of problems with poverty in Sub-Saharan countries. Then there are described methods which UN uses for monitoring of reaching the defined goals. Ways of financing an assistance for developing countries are also described. Second part of the work is aimed at the first goal of the project which is: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. This part begins with adumbration of possible ways and methods of measuring and identifying poverty. Afterwards there is described and evaluated a state and a progress of fulfilling this goal. Perspectives of future progress are also adumbrated. Third part is concerned with the sixth goal of the evaluated project: combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. After an introduction to the issue, there is also considered a state and a progress of reaching the goal and a possible future progress is presented.
Specifics and problems of arab economies with particular reference to the economy of Kuwait.

This bachelor thesis is divided into two main sections. The first section deals with the description of specifics and differences of arab economies. These differences can be seen in almost all areas of life and have a great influence on the economy of arab states. The second section is concerned with analysis of these specific on example of a little arab state -- Kuwait. The task of the second section is to find out if these differences pose problems or the barriers to successful economic development as well. After identification of the problematic areas, their possible solution is presented at the last section of the paper.
Poverty in the developing world - selected impacts and solutions

The thesis analyzes the problematic of poverty in the developing world. The first section defines poverty, its measurment and discusses the main impacts on the population of the developing world. It includes the three most important ones, namely hunger, bad health and illiteracy. The second section focuses on the Millennium Development Goals and their current level of fulfillment. Subsequently, it describes some possible policies of alleviating poverty that are conducted by the developed world, such as development aid, condonement of debt of developing countries and their integration into international trade.
EU and ASEAN - issues and challenges of interregional integration

This paper is focused on potential benefits and troubles of regional co-operation exceeding regional borders. The issue is exemplified by the interregional relations between the European Union (EU) and Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). The first chapter deals with theoretical aspects of transregional and interregional integration. The second chapter concerns general characteristics of ASEAN. The third chapter is about relations between EU and ASEAN. The last chapter deals with benefits and costs, which could accompany creation of the free trade area EU-ASEAN.
The Icelandic economy in the time of the financial crisis

The thesis is focused on the Icelandic financial crisis in 2008. The analysis of the occurrence and the course of crisis are based on the model of a systemic financial crisis. After the long period of economic boom the Icelandic economy was hit by the severe financial turmoil. Iceland was prosperous and strong economy by that time. However, as a result of the oversized bank expansion and external conditions the economy had to face the collapse of the banking sector and the consequential crisis. The theoretical part describes the development of the approach to the financial crisis modeling and defines the factors eventuating in a crisis. The analytical part is firstly dealing with the pre-crisis period and the beginning of the crisis. Subsequently, the causes of the crisis and the government stabilization measures are analyzed. Furthermore, the co-operation with International Monetary Fund is mentioned. And in the last section the work illustrates the impacts of the crisis together with the status of current economic indicators.
