Stejskal, Zdeněk ; Flídrová, Eliška (advisor) ; Honusková, Věra (referee)
English Abstract Application of Non-refoulement Principle in relation to National Security Both national security and the principle of non-refoulement play a crucial role in the modern and rapidly changing world of today's refugees and migrants. On one hand, it is the international legal obligation of states not to return, or refouler, those who might be in danger of torture or various other types of undesirable treatment in their home countries. On the other, it is the legitimate concern of the each and every state for the safekeeping of its vital interests, all together understood as the state's national security. The analysis and clarification of the complicated and often tense relationship between the two phenomena is the aim of the presented thesis. Both descriptive and analytical methods are used in this thesis. The practice of states in individual cases is analysed thoroughly via the relevant decisions of judicial and quasi-judicial authorities. The scope of this paper is limited solely to Euro-American perspective. Detailed chapters dedicated to defining both of the examined phenomena play a crucial role in this paper. Since the definition of non-refoulement differs throughout various areas of international law, it would be hard to apply it correctly without full understanding of this principle....
Peter Handke and Wolfgang Bauer as the leading figures of Avant-garde Literature in 1960s Austria
Stejskal, Zdeněk ; Tvrdík, Milan (advisor) ; Zbytovský, Štěpán (referee)
2. Summary Austrian avant-garde literature is nowadays considered an integral part of German literary history. Focusing on the avant-garde's early stage of the 1960s, the thesis seeks to look into (a) the conditions which gave rise to the progressive literature in the Austria of that time, and (b) its concrete manifestations in the works of the young authors. The opening part explains the origins of such a radical approach to form and content across literary genres. After 1945, Austrian culture and arts did not face the uncertain choice of literature in Germany, where another parting of the ways came in 1947, with the fundamentally different approaches between the West and the East. In Austria the initial debate was more efficient: the official policies clearly aimed at re-establishment of the modern and stable values as presented by the Austrian interwar great story-tellers such as Robert Musil and Hermann Broch. These efforts, however, were soon to become counterproductive. The conservative, and cumbersomely obsolete policies of the grand coalition between the social democratic SPÖ party and the newly established ÖVP party failed to provide fertile land for young authors, who grew up in the 1960s. It was these authors in particular who felt that the cultural and political atmosphere was extremely rigid,...
Sacred music in Catholic church choirs in Prague during the 1948-1989 cultural oppression
Stejskal, Zdeněk ; Slavický, Tomáš (referee) ; Novák, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis deals with the history of church music in catholic churches in Prague between 1948- 1989. Church music is viewed as a form of performing art, which is performed during a catholic liturgy. Thus, this music has its specific purpose, since it is almost always produced and perceived during church services. Having this specific function, the church music had been many times in its history influenced by changes of a role of music in the liturgy, as well as by changes in music and musical world. The development of the church music had reflected the relationship between the Catholic Church and liturgy. Simultaneously, in a certain extent the development of church music also reflected relationship between a government and the Catholic Church. These mutual relationships occurred during whole history of church music. In certain historical periods these relationships had been more pronounced, e.g. during a decline of literary confraternities, in the course of development and decline of the orchestral church music, in the Cecillian reform movement, and after the Second Vatican council. The goal of this thesis was to describe the influence of mentioned relationships between music, Catholic Church, and government on the church music performed in churches in Prague during period 1948-1989.
