Entertainment programmes in Czech television with an emphasis on public television.
Hirsch, Cyril ; MYSLÍK, Václav (advisor) ; SVOBODA, Otakar (referee)
Entertainment has been one of the major genres throughout the history of television, which has served an entertainment function from its very beginning. With the arrival of the dual broadcasting system, the genre became controversial in the context of public service to citizens. The thesis discusses the evolution of entertainment programmes in Czech television, placing an emphasis on Česká televize (Czech Television), the public TV. The thesis provides a comprehensive picture of the genre, putting it in the context of the historical development of Česká televize and, later, the arrival of commercial broadcasters in the Czech Republic. It discusses the development of TV entertainment formats in terms of programming, as well as the possibilities and types of programme production. Yet the most important part is the comparison of private broadcasters' and the public institution's approach to the entertainment genre, which, by definition, tends to be rather commercial in its concept.

Papalová, Tereza ; OUKROPEC, Petr (advisor) ; SVOBODA, Otakar (referee)
At the end of 2011, there was Petr Dvořák named as the new CEO of Czech public television. His goal was - among other things - to change the development and production in the ČT and reintroduce a system of creative groups, as they were years ago. Majority of graduated students from production department sooner or later come across public television production in the Czech Television. The aim of this work is to explore the main and most visible changes, that Petr Dvořák with his management introduced, and to familiarize the reader with the new ways of development and production of programs in ČT.
Czech television - co-producer of drama features
Koštýř, Jiří ; Svoboda, Otakar (advisor) ; Kallista, Jaromír (referee)
Czech Television has been one of the major supporter of Czech cinematography ? as a co-producer of Czech films nearly twenty years. It participates during International co-productions as well. It has engaged in a production of 210 film projects since 1992. This amount includes also documentaries that go into theatrical distribution more and more often. My degree work ?Czech television - co-producer of drama features" deals with the meaning of cooperation between independent producers and television institution characterized as a public service. I try to answer - by the historical development and by my own experiences - this question: why it is important to keep not only Czech cinematography but even tv broadcasting (public service) in this era of geopolitical changes. It is possible to find the perfect symbiosis between an independent producer and a co-producer, between an owner of rights and the broadcaster that will lead to harmonious cooperation and that will lead to fulfillment of wishes and visions of both sides? Or will the commercial skills of some cultural ?gold-diggers?, who believe that the top of art is only business, predominate?

Haertlová, Radmila ; Kopecký, Čestmír (advisor) ; Svoboda, Otakar (referee)
Since 1989 Czechoslovakia and than the Czech Republic had underwent fundamental political, economical and social changes bearing a strong influence at audiovisual production. While in the previous period after 1945 it was the state who held monopoly on audiovisual production, after January 1st 1990 new private companies came to life which tried to participate at the Czech audiovisual market as well as at the international one. That fact radically changed the scope of opportunities offering themselves to film and television professionals. This thessis follows graduates from the FAMU film production studies in the specific period from 1990 to 2008. Based on a wide polling research and on following controlled inteviews, it is possible to reliably assess conditions and opportunities that the new situation in the Czech Republic offers as well as the rate at which graduate students are able to take advantage of them in their professional lives. The results clearly show that almost 100 per cent od film production studies graduates succesfully find their place or employment in the profession. They also show growing numbers of students taking part in study visits abroad and decline in numbers of graduates finding their employment in public sector (formerly state owned) as they find private sector as an more inviting place where they could fulfill their ever-growing professional ambitions as producers. The last fact corresponds with the overall development of the society in our country in the covered period. This work aims at raising general awareness regarding professional opportunities awaiting the FAMU film production studies graduates. Its results should hopefully help new students to find their orientation through the audiovisual world.

Types of production in Czech Television with focus on commisioning work to external producers.
Hirsch, Cyril ; Myslík, Václav (advisor) ; Svoboda, Otakar (referee)
Czech Television has long been one of the biggest co-producers of Czech film. At the same time, however, it is also one of the main organisations to commission work from freelance producers in the production of audiovisual creation. It is therefore highly likely that most of the graduates of the Department of Production (and other departments at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts ? ?FAMU?) meet each other in their professional lives at Czech Television sooner or later. A good understanding of the individual types of production at this institution should be an inherent part of the knowledge of film school graduates. Novice independent producers and authors are undoubtedly interested in the criteria for commissioning work or the possibility of co-production, what the set-up is like and what decides on how it all looks. The primary aim of this paper is to come up with a sort of ?manual? for freelance producers and authors to help them find their way around this issue. The second aim of the paper is somewhat more general. I will attempt to examine the freelance commission and co-production of an audiovisual piece of work within the context of public service television.

Marketing Tools of Czech and European Film - Case Study
Knoblochová, Martina ; Oukropec, Petr (advisor) ; Svoboda, Otakar (referee)
Marketing Tools of Czech and European Film - Case Study As we can guess from the title of the work, it´s main contens is the survey and the analysis of particular marketing steps, the film passes through. The term ?film marketing tools? contains a wide range of diverse activities. For better orientation, I separated these activities into two parts ? film marketing in the business and the marketing during the cinema distribution. In the first part, I focused on the art of the presentation of the project (the pitching), the role of the sales agent and on the importance of film markets and festivals. The second part deals with the marketing tools, whose main aim is to achieve the interest of the public. Because every film is a unique product whose sales are influenced by different elements, it´s impossible to rely on any established formula and the marketing strategy of each film is very individual. The theoretical part of the work is accompanied by two case studies of recent czech films ? teenager commedy Rafťáci (Rafters) and the art house film Štěstí (Something Like Happiness) that illustrate how different the marketing ways of the film could be.
