Waldaufová, Petra ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Ronková, Jolana (referee)
This thesis focuses on work with reading cubes and with game named Story Cubes. It deals with possibilities how to use it to support reading literacy, understanding of text and speech development of pre-school children. The theoretical part first introduces characteristics of preschool children and describes reading literacy development in preschool age. Then it deals with principles of work with reading cubes and Story Cubes and with possibilities to use it in kindergarten. The thesis also includes a practical part which suggests other usage options for reading cubes. There are created specific lessons with reading cubes for preschool children, which follow the rules and recommendations mentioned in the theoretical part. These lessons were repeatedly implemented at kindergarten to be able to observe reading literacy development of each child in time. The hypothesis that preschool children can use selected reading strategies while working with reading cubes, and at the same time, these readership activities support the interest of children in books and related activities, proved to be correct. These children also expanded their vocabulary and improved expressing abilities through Story Cubes activities. Actual Methods of Elementary Reading ( a specific interest - Sfumato Method)
Šimsová, Martina ; Wildová, Radka (advisor) ; Ronková, Jolana (referee)
As a topic of my thesis I chose Current Methods of Teaching of Initial Reading (with a specific focus on the SFUMATO method). In the theoretical part I deal with the issue of reading literacy in pre-primary and primary education. I also describe the division and development of methods from a historical point of view. Further chapters are devoted to the most used methods of elementary reading teaching at present. In more detail I tried to describe the less well-known methodology of Sfumato. The practical part of my diploma thesis was used as a research probe in teaching using the Sfumato methodology and comparison with control groups in which the analytic-synthetic method and the genetic method are used to teach elementary reading. The results of my work show that the Sfumato methodology can be beneficial for both children and pupils and can help in avoiding unwanted reading habits.

The aim of the Master's thesis was to evaluate the level of access of kindergartens in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the development of reading literacy, and the concrete use of reader strategies by nursery teachers. In the theoretical part, I dealt with the definition of reading literacy and grammar, I referred to teacher education through a reader's continuum. I also discussed the issues of reading strategies. Then I compared the Czech and Slovak educational system as a whole and also in relation to the reader's literacy. I have added some of the programs to support reading literacy and comparing them in both of republics. In the research section, I used a mixed research design to get as much data as possible. At the beginning, I collected the data using questionnaires with closed and open questions, then I conducted in-depth interviews with two teachers from the Slovak Republic and two teachers from the Czech Republic. I followed these teachers in their pedagogical activities. On the basis of the results, I have come to the conclusion that, on the practical side, Slovak teachers of reading literacy do more than Czech ones. Although they have better theoretical abilities in the Czech Republic, and more they are devoted to the subject of reading literacy. Stimulating would be to continue...

Progress in Reading Literacy: Education Model based on Double-entry Diary method
Ronková, Jolana ; Wildová, Radka (advisor) ; Doležalová, Jana (referee) ; Kucharská, Anna (referee)
In this study, I analyse current studies to discover the common Double-Entry Diary points which result in reading literacy development and find the essential data which support this theory and describe the state of reading among Czech children from eight to fifteen years of age. Although reading literacy is a well-recognized feature of academic writing, little research has been undertaken as to its models. Because the purpose of reading is using the texts as efficiently as possible, teachers should use methods which allow a variety of active strategies. What we need is a sustained coordinated effort. In my study I focus on fourth-grade primary schools learners who have mastered the technique of reading and are ready to improve their understanding of the text and get an idea of what is hidden beyond the text. Its goal is to familiarize the reader with the reasons for effective education using the Double-Entry Diary method, which originated in the Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking International Consortium. This paper focuses on the issue of theoretical analysis of previous research and literature. It presents specific educational practices and deals with the consequences that lead to practical usage of this method. The research analysis indicates much strength in this teaching method. This...
