Sibylline Oracles I-II and VI-VIII, Questions of Bartholomew, New Testament Apocrypha in Czech Translation.
Dus, Jan A. ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee) ; Radová, Irena (referee)
Recent asteroid breakups and accretion of interplanetary dust on the Earth
Pokorný, Petr ; Šolc, Martin (referee) ; Vokrouhlický, David (advisor)
The major aim of the thesis is an analysis of an accretion of dust originating from breakup events of Emilkowalski and YC2 asterodial families. Using a numerical integrator we follow orbits of individual dust particles, some of which will result in an impact onto one of the planets in the Solar system. Employing some non-trivial transformation we compare recorded impacts onto the Earth to available dust measurements values acquired in antarctic ice-cores. We also analyse the dynamical e ffects of Poynting-Robertson e ffect and their influence on the dust particles of variable sizes.
Paleoclimatic reconstruction based on biogenic and abiogenic proxies from Baikal Lake and Aral Sea sedimentary records
Píšková, Anna ; Hradil, David (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee) ; Houk, Václav (referee) ; Boomer, Ion (referee)
1. ABSTRACT Lake sediments represent an important source of valuable information about the past climate in continental environment. They consists of a mixture of autochthonous and allochthonous organic and inorganic components both responding to paleoenvironmental changes in the water bodies and watershed. Both the composition and relative content of individual sedimentary components mirrors the climate changes. The main inorganic components in lake sediments are quartz, carbonates, and clay minerals; organic matter embodies various plants and animal remains. Reconstruction of past climate is possible only when an efficient combination of analytical methods allowing characterization of all these components is used. We have provided such multi proxy and high resolution analysis on two cores from two lakes, Aral Sea and Baikal Lake. These two large Asian water reservoirs have got a large watershed, originated tectonically, and have grabbed scientific attention during the last decades. Aral Sea represents a closed lake system in semi-arid area and therefore Aral Sea sediments mirrors even minor environmental changes. Research performed on Aral Sea sedimentary cores aims to unravel past lake level variations and to determine their leading forces. Ten radiocarbon dates have been used to construct the age model...
Freedom in the Letter to the Galatians: Eleutheria as a Soteriological Metaphor.
Cimala, Peter ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Tichý, Ladislav (referee) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee) ; Radová, Irena (referee)
The dissertation entitled "Freedom in the Letter to the Galatians: Eleutheria as a Soteriological Metaphor" deals with the old Greek notion of freedom (eleutheria) from the perspective of one epistle of the apostle Paul. The aim of the study is to examine the thesis if, and to what degree, freedom is a soteriological metaphor in the letter to the Galatians. An exegetical-theological analysis all eleutheria statements in the letter is preceded by chapters on (§1.) the history of research, (§2.) basic definitions of the polysemous notion freedom, and (§3.) setting the letter in its literary and historical context. In the main part of the thesis five sections and arguments are examined in which we find altogether 11 eleutheria statements (Ga 2,3-5, 3,26-29; 4,21-31; 5,1 a 5,13-15). The analysis of all eleutheria statements provides the basis to answer the main research question: Is freedom in Galatians a soteriological metaphor? Chapter five (§5.) focuses on Pauline soteriology, offering a fundamental delimitation of the metaphor and integrates freedom among the key soteriological metaphors in the letter Galatians and in Pauline theology. The conclusions of the research are summarized in chapter six (§6). The New Testament study presented here relates to broader themes of interest: the religious/biblical...
The Exegesis Of Matthew 15,21-28: The Faith Of The Canaanite Woman
Lukášová, Pavlína ; Pokorný, Petr (referee) ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor)
The thesis is an exegesis of the story of Canaanite woman and her faith told in the New Testaments Matthews Gospel. This gospel story describes Canaanite woman, a gentile, who supposedly does not believe in the One God, asking Jesus to cure her demon possessed daughter. The text is primarily about the dialog between Jesus and the woman. The metaphorical dialog highlights Jesus' surprise at the depth of faith of this gentile woman and ends with the act of healing of her daughter who is not even present at this encounter. The thesis begins by placing Matthews Gospel within the context all the gospels and their literary and historical origins as a way of introducing the passage to be used in exegesis. The rest of the exegesis has all the necessary elements found in such work such as comparing various translations of the text, literary sources, context and parallels for this passage, concordance, comentaries and excursions into others work as well as explanations. The text itself is an early church pericope thus allowing the thesis to be enriched by explanations of early christian church history. The work is completed by my own interpretation of selected passage. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
References to the Book of Leviticus in the Gospel of Matthew
Landovská, Eliška ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
This thesis called "References to the Book of Leviticus in the Gospel of Matthew", deals with a problem, which has not been adressed as such so far. In the Gospel of Matthew about twenty allusions to the Book of Leviticus can befound, as suggested in the critical edition of the New Testament, edited by Nestle-Alland. In Matthew, some of the allusions are owershadowed by quotations from the books of Exodus or Deuteronomy, which are far more frequently used. Other allusions are unique, as seen in the example of the story of the cleansed lepper. Allusions and echoes are dealt with, rather than direct quotations. In the introduction, the problem of the Old Testament quotations is introduced, followed by the first chapter describing telegraphically all the references to Leviticus in the Sermon on the mount. The author starts with the text from Leviticus, comparing Greek and Hebrew text. Exegesis of this scripture is followed by translation of the relevant scripture form Matthew, comparison of the text with other synoptics, exegesis and exposition of the relation between the two texts. The references to the book of Leviticus seem to enable us better understanding of some situations presented in the gospel. Majority of the allusions explain the cultural background. They explain to nowadays reader, whose...
Idea of Christian Canon in Relation Division of the Church and the Synagogue
Korečková, Andrea ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Frolíková, Alena (referee) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee)
As the theme for my thesis I have chosen the question of the formation of the New Testament canon, a question that is closely connected with the separation of church and synagogue. I decided to deal with the issues involved from the viewpoint of the origins of the Christian Bible, which contains the Old and the New Testament. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
