Factors influencing interpreter's performance in educational facility

The thesis deals mainly with all the aspects having an impact on the interpreter's setting at primary and secondary schools and colleges. Whether special schools or mainstream schools with deaf students integrated. In the theoretical part, we can learn about characteristics of educational interpreting, development of this type of interpreting in the Czech Republic and the situation in interpreting in 1991 and since that year until now. Most of the work deals with the individual factors that influence the quality of simultaneous interpretation in general way. From these factors, I chose those that were specific to sign language interpreting in the area of education. To have an idea of what the current situation in the education of interpreters is, I interviewed 5 interpreters - one of each secondary school or college. In the practical part we will find a questionnaire survey of 19 Czech sign language interpreters working in the field of education. This survey aims to determine whether the factors have anticipated impact on interpreters in education during the interpretation process, and if so, to what extent. Compare of the situation of sign language interpreters in the TV news in the Czech Republic and Finland

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of sign language interpreters working in television news in the Czech Republic and Finland. In the introductory chapter, the attention is given to the description of interpretation in television news and its comparison with other types of sign language interpretation. After that the history of sign language interpreters working in television news in the Czech Republic is described. The main attention is given to the News in the Czech sign language (News). Its history of this News is described and the thesis is focused on the work of sign language interpreters in this television program. Attention is given to the whole process, from the admission of interpreters to the description of their work in the News in Czech sign language. In subsequent chapters the situation in Finland is described. As the situation in Finland is different from that in the Czech Republic, the description is conceived differently. Initially, the attention is devoted to the description of interpreters' work in Finnish television news and subsequent chapters focus on the description of the Finnish News in sign language (News) - Yle Uutiset viittomakielellä. A Contrastive Approach in Teaching Czech Language to Czech Deaf

This work deals with the use of contrastive approach in teaching Czech language to Czech deaf, with positives and negatives of this approach and with its conditions of the use. The introduction described a process of language acquisition for hearing and deaf children and there is also described the difference between acquiring the first language and learning a second / foreign language. The work also denotes the causes of low literacy of Czech deaf and the possibility of solving this problem. The inclusion of contrastive approach to teaching could be the solution. Specifics of Translating Biblical Texts into Czech Sign Language

The bachelor thesis is concerned with the principles of translation of biblical texts into Czech Sign Language. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses Bible translation in general, and more specifically, in relation to sign language translation. It summarises existing findings from studies on foreign translations of biblical texts into sign languages, such as American Sign Language, Japanese Sign Language, Sign Language Lesco. The practical part provides an analysis of the Dictionary of Signs for Christian Concepts for Deaf People and two video translations of passages from New Testament into Czech Sign Language, making recommendations for updates to the Dictionary based on these findings. The thesis then brings together the theoretical knowledge and the present findings and proposes a set of principles and mandatory guidelines for translation of biblical texts into Czech Sign Language. Grammatical Category of Time in Czech Language Textbooks for Deaf Pupils and for Foreigners

The thesis focuses on the way the grammatical category of time is presented in chosen textbooks of the Czech language for deaf and for foreigners. A small questionnaire survey, establishing which textbooks the teachers actually use in teaching Czech for deaf, whether they work also with textbooks for foreigners and what other materials they possibly use, is included. All the textbooks mentioned in the questionnaires are later analysed from the view of their presentation of the grammatical category of time, separately those for deaf and those for foreigners. In the second ones, inspiration for teaching deaf is being traced. At the end of the work there is an author's draft chapter of a textbook for deaf dealing with a part of the issue of verbs and times. The draft text contains an explanation and few exercises and concentrates on problematic phenomena.

University education for teachers of children and pupils with a hearing handicap in the Czech Republic - a description of current state

(in English): Bachelor thesis entitled "Tercial education for teachers of children and pupils with a hearing handicap in the Czech Republic - a description of current state" will focus on teaching courses dealing with the education of persons with a hearing handicap. The work deals mainly with special-pedagogical disciplines whose graduates pursue with the education of individuals with a hearing handicap. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The first part contains a summary of the history of education for people with a hearing handicap, defines terms that occur at work, for example surdopedy or medical and socio-cultural approach to the problem of deafness. There is also a list of Czech legislation relating to education of persons with a hearing handicap. The practical part is further divided into two sections. In the first one, the information from curriculums and syllabi of relevant courses is summarized. Based on the analysis of syllabi, the form, the way and the content of teaching selected fields at specific universities is indicated. In the second section the results of the electronic questionnaire responses of surveyed fields are analyzed. Learning Czech language in the 1 - 3 grade of elementary schools for hearing impaired - description of current situation and potentiality of innovation

This thesis is focused on problems of teaching in school subject Czech Language in 1 - 3 grade of elementary schools for hearing impaired. The whole issue is put into the theoretical framework, which delimit specify of hearing impaired pupils education and the goals which this pupils should achieve in elementary education and primarily in language education too. Special attention is paid to problems of teaching reading and writing - ways to acquiring reading literacy in hearing impaired pupils. Presented are methods of teaching reading and writing and I am thinking about their applicability in hearing impaired pupils education. Is given an idea of teaching in school subject Czech Language in Elementary schools for hearing impaired in history (1948 - 1990), in detail I analyze teaching materials used in that time. Current situation of teaching in school subject Czech Language is describe on the grounds of research probe realized in school year 2011/2012 on four selected elementary schools for hearing impaired in the Czech Republic. Sign language interpreting at universities in the Czech Republic

The Bachelor's thesis "Interpreting for the Deaf at Czech Universities" maps out the current situation of providing interpreters at universities, and it describes ways of providing and problems encountered by responsible support centres. It consists of two parts. The first part is theoretical and it describes legislative measures concerning interpreters in the operative legislation in the Czech Republic, it further gives an overview of support centres assisting students with disabilities at individual universities which stress providing interpreting services to students, and it finally focuses on two university programmes of study intended primarily for deaf students where interpreting is taken for granted. The second part is practical and it includes research conducted as a questionnaire inquiry. The research focuses on opinions of deaf university students about the level of provided interpreting and their personal experiences with and opinions about interpreting provided during their studies. The thesis describes the results of the research and adds suggestions about possible solutions to the given problematic situations. Providing Interpretation Services for the Deaf within Districts of Czech Republic

This final paper is focused on the recent situation of providing interpretation services for the deaf in Czech Republic. It discusses the development of interpretation services in Czech Republic from seventies of the twentieth century until the present time. In this paper also various approaches to interpretation for the deaf are included as well as the role of interpreter and legislation norms associated with interpretation. It also describes functioning of interpretation organizations providing interpretation services. It also mentions the historical turbulences and milestones in the development of interpretation services that have had a considerable impact on the deaf community and that particularly have been directly connected to the sign language legislation and to the changes of the sign language interpreter's Code of Ethics. The data provided by the Czech Chamber of Sign Language Interpreters (Komora) have been the base for practical part of this final paper.
