Wax-craft of Příbram district in social and cultural context
Blažková, Lenka ; Štěpánová, Irena (advisor) ; Royt, Jan (referee) ; Petráňová, Lydie (referee)
Wax-craft used to be a special craft which concerns processing of beeswax. Waxchandlers manufactured many sorts of candles - Passion candles, Christmas candles, many kinds of souvenirs, devotional articles, oblations, fancy goods, flowers or statuettes from beeswax, moreover, they produced soaps, perfumary etc. Wax-craft expended in Příbram during the 17th and 18th centuries through the proximity of very famous Holly Mountain, a pilgrimage place with the Baroque basilica and the wooden statue of Virgin Maria which took its origin in the 14th century. However, first written documents about this kind of craft in Příbram come from the year 1703 and they are connected with the first wax-chandler Jakub Brod. The period of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries is the best known part of Příbram's wax-craft history. The interest of wax-chandlers was concentrated on pilgrimage goods, nevertheless it's possible to presuppose this trend earlier, too. It is interesting to study the ways of production in wax-chandler's workshop on the basis of Anna Čížková (died in 2004), whose father Augustin Čížek was one of the last waxchandlers in Příbram. In order to penetrate into wax-craft problemacy well, we have to study preserved subjects and implements dealing with this craft. A rich collection of these subjects is...

Associational life in the town of Louny since 1861 till 1914
Vostřel, Martin ; Štěpánová, Irena (advisor) ; Petráňová, Lydie (referee) ; Drápala, Daniel (referee)
The objective of my work is to describe associational life in the town of Louny since 1861 to 1914. The years correspond with the year of "October Diploma" issue (1861), resp. the outbreak of World War I. (1914). In the first passages I tried to show the development of the town in the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century from the urbanistic, demographical, industrial and political point of view. All these aspects influenced the associational life there. After the outline of the development of the associational life within the monarchy I aimed at it in Louny. I introduced various types of active notable local personalities in the profiles of Josef Havránek, the representative of the beginning of associational life; long-standing mayor Dr. Petr Hilbert, the owner of the local spa Josef Krýzl and extraordinary socially active woman Mrs Kristýna Ehrlichová. Then I aimed at associational activities in the town. I divided many of the societies into subchapters according to the prevailing orientation: choral dramatic and educational societies, walking and hiking, sport, womens' groups, Jewish associations and amusement societies. Associational life in Louny was influenced by its geographical position, at the Czech-German linguistic border. The town became the hub of...
Modern Weddings in Belgrade and Prague
Igić, Vanja ; Otčenášek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Petráňová, Lydie (referee)
The goal of this bachelor thesis is to show contemporary wedding customs in Belgrade and Prague on the background of typical Old Serbian and Old Czech wedding. The thesis primarily thoroughly deals with the characterization of wedding customs which lasted to this day and therefore became a part of modern weddings. Simultaneously it tries to depict similarities and differences in traditions of both of the described regions. The method of describing the modern marriage culture is based primarily on analysis of traditional wedding components and at the same time is interspersed with results of the questionnaire survey. The analysis shows that even though many of the old customs preserved they are being often practiced in an altered form and some of them even lost their original meaning and character.
