Magic and rational in the life of present Romani élite. Love magic

ln my doetoral thesis I pursue magie and superstitious ideas whieh are the integral part of tspiritual life of the Roma. I tried to ob serve the Romany eommunity from another side. Magie and superstitious ideas of the Roma remain foggy from the seientifie point of view. For the Romany population including the Roma élite they are taboo and for the majority of the soeiety including seholars who deal with the problems of the Roma they are of no aeeount or they are not mentioned, they are unknown. The work deals with the present signifieanee, eondition and funetion of the traditions, aets and praetiees eonneeted with magie and superstitious ideas from the field of love magie. This question of the spiritual life of eontemporary Czeeh Romany people was elaborated on the historieally based superstitious and magie baekground whieh was interpreted by the seolars as the individuality of Romany spirituallife. The problem of magie and superstitious ideas in the field oflove magie is seen from the point ofview ofthe woman who is a hol der, a performer and a recipient ofthese eoneeptions. Buryat shamanism

After the political changes in East Europe and Central Asia at the end of 80s of the 20th century some latitude of religious liberty, which had been limited till then, occured. It made possible to restore original traditions and gradually return the religion from illegality back to the public life. Ecclesiastic and confessional institutions started to restore in accordance with those ones operating in the period of Imperial Russia. A very specific situation arose from Buryat shamanism, which had never been under the state and authority control like other confessions had. Buryat shamans began to restore and renew extinct traditions mostly by the way of studying professional ethnographical and religious literature and inspired by the new philosophical currents of the tardy wave of New Age, they complemented numerous gaps and deficiency with their own ideas. During the last 15 years several organisations associtiating Buryat shamans have come into existence. They obviously differ from each other in their specialisation, traditions they gather from, and even in their range. Some of them are local, others try to unite all shamans in the territory settled by the Buryats, but there are also small formal and informal groups gathering disciples of a master. Nenets - tradition and modernity

As an introduction to this problem we provide a brief survey to the history and different ways of dealing with the problems of native people in the Tsar era and during the Soviet period, too. Next part of this work describes traditional lifestyle of the Nenets people during all four seasons of the year. Described is material and also spiritual culture. Consequent part IS dedicated to the legislative branch of the state government on the relationship with the native people. This part describe several important acts with the most significant influence for the life of this nations. We focused into the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous region to describe local laws and programs for the development of these nations in this concrete local level. The most significant examples for demonstration of the situation and development base we have choosen "Concept of the advancement of the native people." and the programm "Culture, language and traditional style of life of native people of North for the period 2003-2007". The final part describes relations, influences and interests amidst various authorities, organizations, diverse groups and individuals in this sphere. The analysis of ethnic relations and regionalism in North-east Slovakia There is very complicated ethnic situation in North-east Slovakia, where more ethnic and religious groups live (Slovaks, Rutheniens, Ukrainians, greek-catholics). National identification of citizens of North-east Slovakia is very questionable, because historical development of these ethnic groups was complicated (ethnogenesis, conflicts between ruthenians and ukrainians conceptions, relations between ethnic and religious identification) and also there are very important geographic, economic and cultural determinations of this ethic relations. North-east Slovakia is very specific region (remote situation, archaic elements in culture and civic life, importance of religion and traditions).

Village self-government in the beginning of 20th century in Libice nad Cidlinou

Uvedení v život obecní samosprávy v roce 1850 mělo obrovský význam jak pro samotné obyvatele obcí a měst, tak pro pozitivní vývoj celé společnosti. Obce i města dostala možnost se samostatně rozvíjet dle svých potřeb bez nutnosti neomezeného diktátu zvenčí, za předpokladu, že představitelé obcí a měst se budou řídit danými zákonnými normami. Zásady na nichž měl být vybudován první obecní zákon v habsburské monarchii a které byly císařem zaručeny jako základní práva svobodné obce, obsahovalo IV. oddělení říšské ústavy ze dne 4. března 1849 v § 33 a znějí následovně: a) Volení zastupitelů obce; b) Přijímání nových údů (občanů) do spolku obecního; c) Samostatné řízení obecních záležitostí; d) Uveřejňování výsledků obecního hospodaření; e) Veřejná jednání obecních zastupitelů. Těchto několik důležitých bodů pro vznik obecní samosprávy je základním motem předkládané studie. Jak již sám název napovídá, hlavním cílem této práce je snaha o interpretaci přesně specifikované vesnické samosprávy počátkem 20. století na Poděbradsku. Vedle konkrétního vzniku obecního výboru a orgánů obce na základě voleb se budeme zabývat také vymezením hlavních činností představenstva (prezentovaného starostou obce), obecního výboru a dalšími aktivitami úzce souvisejícími s obecní samosprávou. Illegal migration and detentism in Czech republic

Economical prosperity vs. expulsion and detention centres create a connected system of push and pull factors that characterises current f10w of ilIegal migration. The Czech Republic has become a targeted country of ilIegal migrants shortly after the falI of communism in the late eighties of the last century. However for many of ilIegal migrants, it is stilI a transitive country on their way further west. The study deals with the impact of the EU entry on numbers of detained illegal migrants or asylum seekers in Czech detention centres. It describes living conditions in the biggest and oldest Czech detention centre in Bálková and criticises them. It also analyses situation at the Czech border and concludes that after May 2004 the crossing of illegal migrants has become much easier thanks to the withdrawal of custom tariff controls. The thesis describes Czech practice of deportations and presents relevant statistical data's. Biographical interview s with detained asylum seekers are included as well. The concentration focuses on illegal migrants form China and Ukraine, who create majority of detained inmates. Jehovah's Witnesses

The subject of my doktoral thesis is a study of a group of people, which has created an interesting phenomenon in modern and contemporary world, as well as in Czechoslovak and subsequently Czech history. The Religious Organisation of Jehova's Witnesses (later on ROJW) was founded in the USA at the end of 19th century and started its activities in the Czechoslovak Republic in 1907. Today is this religious group represented in 234 countries and is developing in a dynamic way thanks to its elaborated organisational structure. The aim of my work is not an apology nor accusation of the community of Jehova's Witnesses. From the perspective of a person with no affiliation to any religious doctrine, I am trying to obtain as objective view as possible of the origins, development, activities and specific characteristics of this organisation with special focus on the Czech Republic. Main body of my work is divided into two parts. The first part explains the origins and subsequent development of the ROJW. This part is divided into two chapters (chapter I concentrates on Jehova Witnesses' activities on international level and chapter II on its activities in the course of the Czech history) and is based on different information sources and literature.
