The economic development of Zimbabwe from the year 1980 to the present
Lisá, Andrea ; Němečková, Tereza (advisor) ; Kašpar, Václav (referee)
The thesis is concerned with the economic development of Zimbabwe from its proclamation of independence in the year 1980 to the present. It is divided into single decades where it expresses economical and non-economical factors which influenced Zimbabwe. At the same time it is explaining the impact of these factors on the economy and standards of living. At the beginning of its independence Zimbabwe had good conditions for its future development. Through the years the Zimbabwean government has taken several measures and adopted some decisions, which determined the future development of this country. At the same time there were other factors which influenced the development of Zimbabwe. Essential was the issue of social dualism in the society, which was not settled until the year 2000. In 2000 land reform was started in order to remove the dualism, but it had a catastrophic impact on Zimbabwe. Another important factor analyzed in this thesis is for example the Economic Structural Adjustment Program from the 90ties. The thesis is also focused on macroeconomic indicators that fall behind through the years and it explains the reason for their downfall. The whole thesis shows the reasons that made once a country with a good position compared to other countries of Sub-Saharan Africa to a country facing miserable conditions today.

Obenbergerová, Linda ; Němečková, Tereza (advisor) ; Řehořová, Veronika (referee)
As the globalization goes further, the importance of international trade increases as well, not only as an instrument of reaching welfare but as a way to solve problems, too. The World Trade Organization (WTO) tries to put this approach into effect by means of liberalization. The current round of multilateral negotiations at the WTO that was launched in November 2001 in Qatar's capital Doha was to focus on developing countries. That is why it is usually called the Doha Development Agenda (DDA). The opponents claim, that the aspect of development is not strong enough, because developed countries do not want to make concessions (the main topic of this round are agricultural subsidies, harshly defended by the developed countries). The issue is the length of the round and constant postponing of the deadline to conclude DDA or even the absence of a credible classification of members according to their development phase. The original goal of this round lying in improvement of developing countries' situation in world trade is not being fulfilled and remains for the eights year almost unchanged.

Second part of the work is aimed at the first goal of the project which is: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. This part begins with adumbration of possible ways and methods of measuring and identifying poverty. Afterwards there is described and evaluated a state and a progress of fulfilling this goal. Perspectives of future progress are also adumbrated. Third part is concerned with the sixth goal of the evaluated project: combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. After an introduction to the issue, there is also considered a state and a progress of reaching the goal and a possible future progress is presented.
