The Reflection of the Election Campaign in Selected Czech Newspapers
Šimral, Jan ; Lebeda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The topic of my master Thesis is "The Reflection of Czech Parliamentary Election 2006 in selected Czech newspapers". I am trying to analyze how two important Czech dailies handle the political topics especially with the connection with the election campaign. I am analyzing what formats the dailies are using to write about politics, political parties and single politicians, how many political articles there are on the first pages, how much space is devoted to pure program of the political parties and how much of it is wasted on a description of a day-to-day running of the campaign. I am also focusing on the issue of the independence and neutrality of the news coverage of the dailies. They always claim that it is only the opinion desk where the staff can express their real opinions. But do they not do it in the news section of the newspaper as well? I am trying to analyze what political party the daily inclines to and how much it shows it. I examine how much the dailies wrote about certain politicians. And the focus is put on many other issues yet. There are many conclusions derived from my thesis. One of the most important ones is that the two examined dailies have a strong liking for certain political parties and that they show it not only in the opinion desk but also in the news section. Other part is focused on the religiosity of inhabitants and its influence on the electoral results of KDU - CSL. Charts show the religiosity rate in the four compared regions during several last...

Štefek, Jiří ; Lebeda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Novák, Miroslav (referee)
Between 1996 - 2002, the Czech Republic had experienced governance of three minority govemements. From the very beginning, all of them had to deal with a complex set of problems involving not only their forming but also their day-to-day business . Tha unusual feature of their constitution meant also new challenge to the legislation process; minority cabinets have to rely on less than half of the members of the Chamber of Deputies in the Parliament of the Czech Republic to push through their legislative proposals. The thesis begins with a brief theoretical intrdouction where I define and classify the concept of minority governments, impact and significance of political opposition in the democratic systém and also the consitutional order of the Czech Republic including the electoral system. The focus of the second part is on an detailed analysis of all three Czech minority govemements involving complicated process of their forming, aspects of their cooperation with oppostion parties, their relationships with the Parliament and the Head of State. A special attention is devoted to the impact they had on the overall political and economical situation in the Czech Republic. Finally, I evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of minority govememts as a solution for post-election situations concluding that that...

Vašíčková, Lenka ; Lebeda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Strahalová, Šárka (referee)
The bachelor thesis positions o f the Prime Minister in Great Britain, Germany and the Czech Republic" compares the positions of three prime ministers of three different European parliamentary democracies. It is divided into two chapters - the first one deals with theory and the second one describes how the theory works in practice. It gis based on the opinions of a well-known political scientist Giovanni Sartori who has made his own theory of three different positions of a prime minister in government. According to this theory I have chosen the position of the British prime minister, who is the most powerful, the German chancellor, who is less powerful and the Czech premier, whose position is the weakest. To explain the differences I also compare partial systems, electoral systems and the state system. In the second chapter I analyse Great Britain, Germany and the Czech Republic in the light of their modern history so I use similar periods of time, mainly the 1990's. Talking about Great Britain I have chosen the era of governance of Conservative Party leading by Margaret Thatcher and John Major and then the era of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown's New Labour. Regarding Germany I was interested in Helmut Kohl's governance since 1990 and also in Helmut Schroder's and Angela Merkel's chancellorship,...
