Comenius' Consolatory Writings

The submitted work deals with Comenius' consolatory writings. The writings included in the third volume of The Works of Jan Amos Komenský served, in particular, for acquaintance with the consolatory writings. The work examines the subject matter in four parts. At first it explains the historical and personal basis of Comenius' consolatory writings. It shows the brethren priest as a faithful shepherd of the church who in his writings consoles and encourages his sorrowful companions during an exceptionally tempestuous period. It also offers a general overview of Comenius' consolatory literature and a basic description of the individual works, including complementary information. In a special part it focusses on consolatory works as a separate literary genre, their historical development and linkage of Comenius' consolatory works, with emphasis on their theological foundation and practical aim. In the work there is also a literary and theological analysis of a selected consolatory work called Letters to Heaven, in which the author deals with the age-old question of theodicy from the aspect of Christian faith against the background of property inequality. Education and Culture during the reign of Charles IV.

Education and Culture during the reign of Charles IV. Petra Soušková The focus of the paper is to present a balanced interpretation of the history during the reign of Charles IV. Specifically, the culture, education and their main features which substantially determined the development of the Czech nation from 1334 to 1378 are discussed from the political, economical, social and religious aspects. The work is divided into five chapters which specify known interpretations of the topic and summarize the findings of previously published studies. Overall description of the Charles's IV. rule is given in chapter 1. In chapter 2 the character of Charles IV is outlined focusing on his deep religiousness with respect to the events that formed his youth during his travel in France and Italy and also the European and Czech social development, and formation of medieval institutions. The third chapter offers a general overview of the culture and education in the studied period. Consolatory Writings as Searching for Answers to the Problems of the Time of Jan Amos Comenius

Anotation Personality Jan Amos Comenius is viewed from different sides. There are a number of expert works which accommodates the personality of assorted sides about Jan Amos's Comenius's professional activities and human destiny. Me, I have not concerned his professional public and even organizational activity and intrigued me rather its human searching security in life through faith. Therefore, the subject of my work are more or less his fictional writings, therefore Letters to Heaven, Mournful, and The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart. I believe that if real life Comenius uses the term "consolatory", you can search just finding his comfort in his own creating and then in the tone in these works. Although these works are subjects of the harshest reality in his time. I think an interesting document is his correspondence expressing his worries mostly, but also sometimes the joy of his own works, as well as its human joy of universal recognition of his work. I most relied on the autobiography of John Amos Comenius, the work of Jan Blahoslav Čapek, work by Jaroslava Pešková, Pavel Říčan, Jan Václav Novák and of course my own reading Comenius's works from the sources.

The Spanish Inquisition

This thesis revolves around the Spanish Inquisition, ranging from its creation in the 15th century to its disolution in the 19th century. In this thesis there can be seen the reasons of the creation of the inquisition as well as the effects it brought to the different inhabitants of the Spanish territory. This thesis also talks about how the inquisition carried out its "autos de fe", how it judged people and, in general, how it acted on a daily basis in the spanish society. There are also several mentions to influential people of the time, including inquisitors and other people, such as Teresa de Ávila, Francisco Goya or Isabel de Castilla. At the end of the thesis there is an explanation on how the inquisition is viewed today, both by Spanish people and the rest of the world.

The Epistle of James as Judaeo-Cristian Halakhah: Theological, Social, and Ethical aspects

This graduation thesis contains analysis of various aspects of the Epistle of James as Judeo- Christian halakhah addressed to the Diaspora Jews.according to an author's opinion, the author of the Epistle (traditionally, the bishop of Jerusalem church James the Just) wrote his encyclical to those readers who already knew the teachings of other Judaic and Christian missionaries. A Jew-rigorist from Palestine presented to co-brothers (who a priori were considered to be less religious) his understanding of holiness through temptations and deliberate poverty. In this paper, theological, social, and ethical aspects of the Epistle are researched through historical context of the author, i. e. his Sitz im Leben.

Count Franz Anton Spork - a representative of Jansenism and of the religions tolerance

The present M. A. theses COUNT FRANZ ANTON SPORCK - SUPPORTER OF JANSENISM THOUGHTS AND RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE deals with Baroque period, the so called "Bohemian Baroque" in the 17th - 18th century, and ends at the beginning of the Enlightenment. On the main representatives of the Czech lands was Count Franz Anton Sporck. The first chapter looks at the emergence of the movement of Jansenism, founded by Cornelius Otto Jansen, and mentions the root movement within the environment of the University of Leuven. Cornelius Otto Jansen influenced French Jansenism which had been led by Jean-Antoine Duvergier de Hauranne (First Abbe de Saint-Cyran) at the monastery of Port-Royal des Champs, and a major French personality of the movement. The other major figures were Martin de Barcos, Antoine Arnauld, Blaise Pascal and Pasquier Quesnel, who were influenced by the Jansenism environment in the Czech lands. At the same time, the first chapter focuses on the Jesuit Order, which acts as a counterpoint to the same idea of Catholic reform during the time of post Trident. In the second chapter, the personalities of Czech Jansenism - Valerian Magni and Jerome Hirnhaim are introduced. Hanuš NYKL, Ph.D. Slavophilism and Slavophil paradigm in Russian philosophy of the 19th century Abstract The PhDr. dissertation concerns position of the Slavophilism within Russian philosophy of the 19th century. The Slavophil phenomenon is critically analyzed and main principles of most significant theoreticians such as A. Khomiakov and I. Kireevsky are described. The Slavophilism is characterized as specific intellectual paradigm based on three major grounds - organic wholeness concept, religion as a basic factor and autonomy of entities. It shows following evolution of this paradigm in Russian mind of the 19th century in case of A. Grigoriev, N. Strakhov, N. Danilevsky, K. Leontiev and V. Soloviev. The other existence of the paradigm in other development of Russian mind is pointed out.

It documents the historical context and describes the gradual process of implementing the principles of humanism and education in the Unity of the Brethren since the origins of the Unity all the way to the activity of Jan Blahoslav. It touches on the connection between the courses of reformation and humanism. It charts the personality and life's work of Jan Blahoslav with emphasis on humanistic principles of his work. The Order of Saint John of Rhodes and Malta as one of the Orders of Knights Arisen as a Direct Consequence of the First Crusade

This bachelor thesis deals with the establishment and historical development of Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and Malta. The Order arose as a consequence of the first Crusade, which complied its mission, thus conquest of Jerusalem back into Christian hands. The first chapter approaches political and religion situation in the West and the East and deals with causes, which led to the declaration of first Crusade. The second chapter describes itself Crusade. Its declaration in Clermont, journey of Peter the Hermit to the East and jewish pogroms as one of the unfortunate moment of the Crusade. The third chapter deals with the establishment and history of the order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and Malta. Also rule of the order, its symbolism and organization.
