The Language of Contemporary Advertising and the Codification of the Czech Language (The Regional Press of the Town Beroun Its Surroundings)
Očenášková, Gabriela ; Chejnová, Pavla (advisor) ; Kvítková, Naděžda (referee)
The thesis deals with the language of contemporary advertising published 1 in a selection of regional newspapers of the town Beroun and its surroundings, i.e. Berounsky denik, Podbrdské noviny and The Independent Newspaper of the Beroun Region - ECHO. The main part of the paper evaluates the language of advertising from the point of view of codification and examines the flaws in orthography which appear in these texts. The deviations from the orthography rules found in the texts are classified in compliance to The Czech Language Orthography Rules published in 2004. Following the discovered facts I tried to find out which mistakes prevail, to identify the causes of their origin and to review to what extent the adult population has mastered the rules. Besides the orthographic flaws I also focused on other aberrations from the language standards and special features in the fields of stylistics, lexicology and morphology. As I worked with a specific type of newspapers - the regional press - 1 also tried to draw a more general picture of the form and the language of their advertising and to compare the present-day situation with the condition twelve years ago when these newspapers started to be published. Language Work of Václav Budovec from the Budov Antialkorán
Code-switching of standard and colloquial Czech as a didactics problem
Čihák, Jan ; Šebesta, Karel (advisor) ; Vybíral, Petr (referee) ; Kvítková, Naděžda (referee)
Jan Čihák Code-switching of standard and colloquial Czech as a didactics problem Summary This dissertation examines the process of code-switching between so called standard and colloquial Czech in the process of education, especially in the language used by teachers in the classroom. Discussion about increasing use of colloquial Czech in broader situations and functions (based on previous research) among linguists is still present in various linguistic journals as it appears to be one of the central sociolinguistic problems of the Czech language. The main problems discussed in this dissertation are to what extent is the code-switching present in the teachers' speech in the classroom, what functions does it have in this specific area of communication and what (if any) are the features of code-switching to be considered for further teaching of Czech. In the theoretical part, different functional aspects of, and linguistic points of view on this phenomenon in Czech language are analysed with regard to its impact on the education of contemporary Czech in secondary schools. The author also analyses the requirements on teachers' use of language set by curricular documents and relevant linguistic papers, according to which there appears to be less emphasis at present on the use of standard Czech in classrooms,...

Intertextuality in Advertising and its Use in Czech Language Lessons
Čapková, Radka ; Kvítková, Naděžda (advisor) ; Janovec, Ladislav (referee) ; Hoffmannová, Jana (referee)
Intertextuality in Advertising and its Use in Czech Language Lessons Advertising, as one of the forms of persuasive communication, often uses intertextual links to persuade, to manipulate and to seduce the recipient. The thesis analyses the intertextual links in advertising and their distribution according to the types of pretexts on the basis of theoretical research, and elaborates, how the different kinds of advertisements and commercials are perceived by secondary school students. In the first part of the thesis, relevant theories, which deal with intertextuality, are summed up, and the main terms are defined. In the area of intertextual research, we can find two main conceptions of intertextual links: broader, represented e. g. by Kristeva, Barthes, Bloom, Riffaterre, and narrower, manifested e. g. in theories of Bachtin, Genette, Głowińsky, Markiewicz or Homoláč. In our thesis we emanated from the narrower conception of Homoláč, who defines intertextuality as linking of one text to another text, which is incorporated into its meaning structure. We also defined terms architextuality and metatextuality and specified their relevance to our research. In the second part, having taken theoretical literature and language sources as a basis, types of intertextual links used in advertising are selected. The...
