First female pilots in the context of modernization reforms between 1920-1940s in Turkey and Iran
Bijani, Karolína ; Koláček, Jakub (advisor) ; Kříhová, Zuzana (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the first female pilots in Turkey and Iran at the beginning of the 20th century. In the given period, after the accession of Reza Pahlavi and Atatürk, widespread political and social reforms took place, one of which was the effort to emancipate women. In parallel with the changes in society, the state attempted to modernize the technical equipment, which manifested itself in the development of aviation. These two phenomena merged over time and women were given the opportunity to complete pilot training together with men. In her thesis, the author draws on secondary literature as well as sources in Persian and Turkish, the authors of which met the female pilots either directly in person or with people close to them. In the thesis, the cases of Turkey and Iran are placed side by side, and in addition to common or different characteristics, the author tries to identify the period influences that helped women to establish themselves in a purely male field.
Microrheology modeling with COMSOL Multiphysics package
Koláček, Jakub ; Sedláček, Petr (referee) ; Pekař, Miloslav (advisor)
This bachelor thesis focuses on modeling Brownian motion using the COMSOL Multiphysics package and its Particle Tracing module. The aim of the work is to design and create elementary models that will be able to suitably simulate the movement of microparticles in viscous and viscoelastic environments, which can later be used for modeling passive microrheology. Within this work, Matlab scripts were created for the calculation of MSD from the simulation results, validation of the viscous model was performed on experimental data and elementary models for the simulation of the viscoelastic environment were also designed. Two different approaches were chosen for the design of these models, namely the use of rigid obstacles under the assumption of a discrete environment and a mathematical model assuming continuous environment. Data from the viscous model showed good agreement with the experimental results. The results of viscoelastic simulations are presented, and further possible development of these models is discussed. The continuous mathematical model is considered closest to modeling viscoelastic behavior because of a characteristic curvature that was observed in the evaluation of MSD.
Abdolkarim Soroush in the Context of Contemporary Iranian Thought
Koláček, Jakub ; Ťupek, Pavel (advisor) ; Kropáček, Luboš (referee)
The essay deals with the work of contemporary Iranian Shia philosopher Abdolkarim Soroush and consists of two chapters. The first chaper analyzes the Iranian intellectual tradition in the second half of the 20th century with special concern for the newly established connection between Islam and the political in the new religious ideologies. Bonyads in Postrevolutionary Iran: Between Charitable Foundations and Politico-Economic Conglomerates
Fialka, Prokop ; Koláček, Jakub (advisor) ; Ťupek, Pavel (referee)
This bachelor's thesis analyses the phenomenon of foundations - bonyads in postrevolutionary Iran. The most prominent bonyads were founded during the Islamic revolution and were a transformation of already existing foundations that had been set up during the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Today, they stand on the verge of formal and informal structures of the Iranian state. Based on the study of academic literature and selected sources, the author compares their contradictory roles: charitable activities and substituting of some of the functions of the Iranian welfare state versus informal intervening in politics through a vast network of economic activities outside the control of the Iranian governmental ministries. The thesis is based on a case study of one of the Iran's most important foundation Bonyad-e Mostaz'afan (Foundation of the Oppressed) and addresses the question of to what extent are bonyads charitable foundations and to what extent they play other, less apparent roles in the context of Iranian political system and structures of power.
Islam and the Environment: Ecological Problems in the view of Contemporary Islamic Jurists and Philosophers
Koláček, Jakub ; Ťupek, Pavel (advisor) ; Novák, Ľubomír (referee)
This thesis analyzes contemporary interpretations of Islamic religious ethics regarding the environment and its problems. The first part introduces a theoretical perspective in which the analyzed problem is viewed as historico-sociological problem of interaction between the modern phenomena of environmentalism and the traditional framework of religious ethics. The object of the second part is a close analysis and summary of those parts of the religious textual tradition which are included in the contemporary ethico-religious interpretations of environmental problems. In the third part, three separate discourses of contemporary Islamic environmental ethics and two other perspectives are distinguished and analysed using texts which represent them, published on this topic in English and Arabic. On this material common features of Islamic ethical attitude towards the nature and environmental problems are demonstrated as well as notable differences between the interpretations of jurists, layman activists, institutions and other actors. Attentions is paid to various possible relations between modern environmental concepts and notions and traditional ethico- religious Islamic tenets including their possible political and social implications.
Attempt at Democratic Transition in Iran 1997-2000
Koláček, Jakub ; Maslowski, Nicolas (advisor) ; Německý, Marek (referee)
The thesis "Attempt at Democratic Transition in Iran 1997-2000" analyzes the developement of restricted liberalization and democratization, which was started in Iran in Spring 1997 by election of reformist presidential candidate Muhammad Khatami into office. The essay looks on theese events as a result of the longer cultural change which occured in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution and as a consequence of the cleavages which split the Iranian political space into several different streams. The thesis uses a theoretical perspective based on the idea that Iran, in the course of 20th century, constantly evolved in the form of modern national state for which the Islamic revolution was but a regime change, which replaced one authoritarianism for another with a different ideology. Based on this perspective the events after the Khatami election are analyzed in terms of the transitologic theory through which the essay examines the specific dynamcis of political contest between the softliners who push for a democratization of the regime and the hardliners who take pains to preserve the authoritarian practice based on the theory of "The Rule of the Jurisconsult" articulated first by the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ruhollah Khomeini.
