European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) - problematic issues and reform

The thesis assesses the development of ENP since the introduction of the policy in 2004 in sectors: cooperation in justice and home affairs and trade liberalisation. The main objective of the work is to outline main problematic issues which are common for both sectors and the whole region under ENP umbrella. The analysis of both sectors is based primarily on data retrieved from official EU documents that evaluate what progress has been made so far. Clear-cut indicators and structure of the thesis divided into two parts representing each sector demonstrate their shared characteristics. Both sectoral analysis provide partial conclusions identifying weak and strong points of the policy. Each sectoral analyses consists of first phase describing the character of the sector in regard to actors, instruments and balance of the policy; and the second phase evaluating progress in the framework of the sector. The conclusions summarises the main problematic issues.
The Limits of the EU's Foreign Policy by Way of an Example of Building Palestinian Statehood

The bachelor thesis "The Limits of the European Union's Foreign Policy by Way of an Example of Building Palestinian Statehood" addresses issues of effective performance of the EU foreign policy during the process of building an independent state of Palestine. The attention is paid to internal and external influences affecting its formation. The text is divided into four parts, the first of which sets out a general concept of foreign policy and concentrates on genesis of cooperation among member states in the sphere of foreign policy. The second chapter analyses internal factors (i.e. institutional mechanisms and attitudes of EU member states) having a limiting impact on an effective performance of the European foreign policy. The third part defines analogously external limits given by the interaction between the EU and other global and regional political actors of the international scene. In the last chapter these limits are demonstrated on the case of the reaction of the international community to the electoral victory of Hamas in the Palestinian parliamentary elections held in January 2006. The Rigorous's thesis Czech Political Parties and the European Union between 1996 and 2009 presents how the Czech political parties (ODS, CSSD, KSCM and KDU-CSL) percieved the European Union and the role of the Czech Republic in the EU in the given period. The thesis departs from both basic constructivist principles and the concept of polity ideas. Further, it presents four ideal types of political system: Federal State, Intergovernmental Cooperation, Economic Community and Network. Then, looking at the individual political parties' perspective on selected components of polity ideas the thesis assigns the political parties to the ideal types.
Liberal intergovernmentalism: The role of small states in the European integration process

The aim of the Master thesis Liberal intergovernmentalism: The role of small states in the European integration process is to test the applicability of the theory of Liberal intergovernmentalism to cases of small Member States of the European integration. Furthermore, the thesis aims to clarify the role of this states in the evolution of the European integrative cooperation. In order to reach the research objectives, the thesis uses case studies of Belgium and the Netherlands and it examines their motives and behaviour during the negotiation of treaties of the European primary legislation. The thesis is divided into chapters based on a chronological succession. Each chapter describes a time period before one of the treaties of the primary legislation, from the foundation of the European Economic Community until the signing of the Treaty of Amsterdam. The chapters deal with the motivation of small states for new negotiations and their claims in concrete areas of diplomacy. These claims are further compared with results of the negotiations in the context of the significance of the arranged agenda. Diploma thesis "The Czech Senate and its role in international relations of the Czech Republic" deals with the Czech Senate, its style of functioning and influence on international relations of the Czech Republic, with special attention to the relation between the Czech Republic and European Union. First, we shall deal with the role of the Senate in the international relations of the Czech Republic, as regards the relations between The Czech Senate and European Union and parliamentary diplomacy as well. After that will come our empirical research. We shall deal with the same questions as in the previous part, however, we will use a different method and compare the results of our research with concepts introduced in the theoretical part. As a result, we will identify the differences between theoretical possibilities of the Senate in this area and its real working. In the part about the style of the Senate, first, we shall show the style of functioning of the Senate according to the chosen literature. We will be interested in the following questions: the atmosphere in the Senate, the relations among senators, hierarchy of the senators and particular committees. Diploma thesis "EU as an actor of world environmental policy with special focus on agreements concerning climate protection" tries to find answer to the question of the relevance and strength of European Union in the field of world climate protection. The analysis of three important world meetings (Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, 1992, negotiations of COP5 in Kyoto, Japan in, 1997, and Copenhagen Summit in 2009) is the main tool in the search of the answer to the question, what makes EU relevant and strong actor in the world climate policy, whether its position is strong and what makes it an actor. Diploma thesis focuses not only on European powers in international arena, but also on its powers towards its member states. In this area, thesis focuses on EU powers towards its members, how the powers are used during the phase of enforcement and implementation of EU legislative and how successful the EU is in enforcing its will towards its member states in the field of climate protection. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate, to what extend EU can be considered to be an international actor in the field of climate protection policy and find out, if it has powers to influence other actors, negotiations and agreements and whether it can be considered a strong actor.

Following an overview of the historical context, the thesis analyses the situation in the second half of the 20th century, focusing on the UN 's performance during Indonesia occupation and then on the popular consultation and following peace operations. Radko Hokovský Border Security of the Schengen Area from the Perspective of the Public Goods Theory Abstract In the context of increasing illegal immigration to the European Union, doubts arise whether Schengen Area is fit to face this challenge, or whether it needs to be reformed. The aim of this dissertation thesis is to clarify questions surrounding functionality of the Border Security System of the Schengen Area by applying the theory of public goods. The main inquiry of the thesis is, whether it is necessary to further strengthen the EU competences in order to improve the functioning of the Schengen Border Security System (SBSS). First, a model of an ideal- type border security system is constructed in order to identify core functions of border security in relation to protection from illegal immigration: (a) deterrence of illegal immigrants, (b) prevention of illegal border crossings, (c) interdiction of illegal immigrants, (d) apprehension of illegal immigrants, (e) apprehension of illegal residents, and (f) removal of illegal population.
