Greek-Italian War (1940-1941) and its national reflexion
Kadlecová, Lucie ; Králová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Tejchman, Miroslav (referee)
1 ABSTRACT The bachelor thesis "Greek-Italian War (1940-1941) and its National Reflexion" deals with the issue of the Italian troops' invasion to Greece at the beginning of the Second World War. According to the expectations of Italian society, the military campaign should have been a clear victory for Mussolini's regime. However, in consequence of an unexpected wave of Greek patriotism, which helped unify the society and fight against the aggressor, the Italian invasion changed into a military fiasco. Even though Rome won the war, the development and outcome of the Greek-Italian War have had an influence on the growth in Italian power as well as on the motivation of the Greeks to fight against the invaders for the rest of the Second World War. The main concerns of the thesis are the different approaches of both adversaries (the victorious Italy and the defeated Greece) to the war. The aim is to analyse the Italian and Greek national thinking, on the one hand connected with Mussolini's Italy as a European power and, on the other hand, related to the Greek national fight for freedom. The thesis also discusses the degree of social mobilisation and its role in both regimes.

Svobodová, Kamila ; Králová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Tejchman, Miroslav (referee)
Precis The Bachelor's Thesis "Slovenian Road to Independence and its Milestones" deals with the process of democratization and independence of Slovenia during the years 1986 to 1991. After the summary of the country development within the Habsburg monarchy and then in Yugoslavia the thesis focuses on the events after 1986 as a crucial milestone of the Slovenian road to independence. In Slovenia won in 1986 in Slovene communist party liberal wing led by Milan Kučan, advocating a democratic political system and gradual economic reforms. In Serbia became one year later the leader of the Serbian communist party Slobodan Miloševič, the propagator of the idea of Great Serbia. In Serbia thus won a conception of a centralized state based on nationalism. In this situation, it was not possible to agree on the basic functioning of the federation, let alone the future orientation of Yugoslavia. After the Yugoslav People's Army took up Serbian's quarrel and began to militarily threaten Slovenia, there had been a gradual convergence of Ljubljana government with the opposition, which culminated in January 1989 when the Slovene communist party renounced its political monopoly. Slovene communists opted for the reform course, but still advocated remaining in the Yugoslav federation. Gradually, however, even the Slovenia's...

To this end, it utilizes a combination of classical study of literature dealing with said subject and discursive analysis, where the used sources are selected films from local cinematography. The conclusion of the study is based on the comparison of chosen movies and the theoretical framework described in the opening part of the text.
Nikos Zachariadis and the Communist Party of Greece during the Metaxas dictatorship
Karasová, Nikola ; Králová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Tejchman, Miroslav (referee)
This essay describes the situation of the communist movement in Greek society in the interwar period and mainly during the Metaxas dictatorship (1936-1941) when it had to adopt to many important changes. The Greek communists who were ruthlessly persecuted by the regime had gained greater public support as well as further experience in illegal activity. When they later got engaged in the fights of the World War II and the Greek civil war they suceeded to make use of it. Despite the ideology of Metaxas being in plain contradiction to the ideology of the Communist party of Greece, they both cooperated after the Italian agression against Greece in October 1940. This attitude helped Metaxas, as well as KKE, to gain public support that had been so far unusual. It is a paradox that the year 1941 became for both of them historically the first moment of explicit political success.
The Role of High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina in its Postwar Reconstruction in between 1995-2002: Closing the "Capability-Expectations Gap"
Šitera, Daniel ; Králová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Tejchman, Miroslav (referee)
Bosnia has been an international protectorate for fifteen years after the end of civil war which was ravaging the country between 1992-1995. The protectorate was to originally give way to Bosnian growing sovereignty after one year since the end of civil war. Instead, the International Community started to increase its activity in the country via an expansion of the High Representative's capabilities (financial and military resources of the protectorate, High Representative's authority to take actions against Bosnia elected representatives, etc.). High Representative was ad hoc institution which was created to administer the international protectorate in Bosnia. At the end of 1997, High Representative received the so-called Bonn Powers which gave him authority to directly impose legislation and to dismiss Bosnian elected representatives. Any such usage of Bonn powers was justified as an effort to speed up Bosnia's stabilization and facilitate thus international departure from the country. However, Bosnia is destabilized country and international protectorate even in 2011. The usage of Bonn Powers proved to be wrong, since it could establish a Bosnian state minimally suitable to the international expectations, but it has at the same time failed to establish a Bosnian state suitable to the domestic...

The Return of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons in Bosnia and Hercegovina after Dayton
Šimák, Jakub ; Tejchman, Miroslav (advisor) ; Králová, Kateřina (referee)
This master thesis deals with activities of the international community concerning the refugee question and their impact on the process and current state of the post-war returns of refugees as well as internally displaced persons (IDPs) on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the period 1995-2010. The author analyzes and critically assesses the overall strategy of international organizations and particular implemented programs, whose conception was changing over time. The aim is to determine causes of such strategic changes and their interconnectedness with the return. Fifteen years after the end of the war, the author attempts to examine the socioeconomic situation of the returnees and the qualitative aspect of the return process. The main argument of the thesis is that the international community did not succeed in fulfilling the goals stipulated in Annex 7 of the Dayton Peace Agreement. Although over one million of refugees and IDPs returned to their places of origin, the physical return has not been accompanied by a "harmonious reintegration" within the local societies. The international community focused on the issues of property legislation, restitution and reconstruction that have - despite their importance - only partly tackled the complex process of returns. The unsatisfactory conditions...
