The thesis provides a brief survey of the profession of a dancing master in the 19th century Bohemia. Considering the wide territorial and temporal scope of the theme and difficult access to relevant sources the author's primary focus was Prague in the latter half of the 19th century. The thesis deals with demands an individual had to meet in order to become a dancing master. An analysis of the profession in terms of activities associated with it is provided too; not only a dancing master was a pedagogue, he often acted as a promoter of dances at dance fetes, as a choreographer and sometimes even as a composer. A special attention is given to the institution "Klub tanečních mistrů v království Českém", unifying dancing masters at the end of the 19th century. The author also deals with questions and origin of usage of significant titles of dancing masters (Provincial, Estates). A brief outline of the impact of women on the profession of a dancing master is provided too.
