Changes in the lifestyle 1945-1948 : (an analysis of articals for women in Lidová demokracie)

The diploma thesis describes the way of life in postwar Czechoslowakia on the grounds of analysis of newspaper articles in the journal of Čs. strana lidová (political party). In concentrates on eight areas - women and politics, women and work, nutrittion, fashion, household, family, children and education. It creates a detailed view on living conditions and the most burning issues to common people. Society on the whole went through a sea change. After the second world war there were more women then men. Political parties fought form their votes. There was an huge lack of labour force. It was necessary to make women work not just at home. The aim of the Communist Party was to involve all women in labour. The republic struggles with a crucial absence of food and textiles. In spite of that, Lidová demokracie offered articles about latest fashion trends. The high number of infant mortality was alarming. 1945 saw the failure of many marriages. The author sets her analysis into the context of political and economic events of the period 1945-1948, she descrbes changes in the media control system as well as the press of Čs. strana lidová. This diploma thesis also details the conditions of women's journalism, what subject matter was highlighted, and what space it was allowed to develop.
The media image of the Syndicate of Journalists of Czech Republic in daily papers as a contribution to transformation of media environment

The Master thesis "The Media Image of the Syndicate of Journalists of Czech Republic in Dailypapers as a Contribution to Transformation of Media Environment" deals with the media image of journalistic organization created by selected nationwide printed media in years from 1990 to 2008. This paper is divided according to time periods, which were defined by three chairmen of Syndicate of Journalists - Rudolf Zeman, Irena Válová, and Miroslav Jelínek. Thesis is dealing not only with media image of the syndicate on front pages of chosen periodicals but also with position of the syndicate in society, respectively among politicians and journalist. Author have gathered information from syndicate's archival materials (National Archive in Prague and secretariat of Syndicate of Journalists in the Czech republic), from academic literature, from data of syndicate's newsletter Mediažurnál, and from found articles, which mentioned the Syndicate of Journalists in the Czech republic. The result of this paper is a media image of Syndicate of Journalists in the Czech republic with regard to chosen events. With contribution of qualitative analysis the tone of articles toward the syndicate was found out, and with help of quantitative analysis was constructed a comprehensive record of frequency of the articles. The influence of journalism on political communication in the late 19th century : case study Národní Listy daily journal

The diploma thesis "The influence of journalism on political communication in the late 19th century: case study Národní listy daily journal" deals with the influence of the Národní listy daily journal on the political communication of mladočeská political party in the turn of eighties and nineties of the 19th century. In this period the political competition of mladočeská political party with staročeská political party culminated. The most important moments of this time were represented by the Czech assembly election in 1889 and the empire parliament election in 1891. The aim of this thesis is description of editorial activities and business situation of the Národní listy daily journal in that period which is characterized by strong struggle of those two political parties, crowned by the election success of mladočeská political party in 1891. Moreover, the diploma thesis studies the Národní listy daily journal contribution to the change of political elites, how the editorial board of the Národní listy daily journal has been changed during this period or what was the political rhetoric of the Národní listy daily journal.
The biography of Václav Chába

Diploma thesis "Život a dílo Václava Chába" deals with an image of Václav Cháb (1895 - 1983), czech publicist, writer and translator. Diploma thesis describes important moments of Cháb's life in chronological sequence. First part of the thesis analysis Cháb's growing up and attend to his participation at czechoslovak foreign legion in Russia during First world war. After his return back to the country, he started to work as a journalist at weekly paper Legionářský směr and then at daily paper Národní osvobození. During the Second world war he was shortly active in paper Naše zprávy and then was obliged to stay in illegality. In the very first beginning of the Prague revolution in May 1945, he was active in re-issuing of Národní osvobození. The biggest attention is paid to his journalist proffesion at Národní osvobození. Early in 1950's was Cháb employed in Státní pedagogické nakladatelství, where he was active even in retiring age. Diploma thesis also paid appropriate attention to many of Cháb's prosaic publications, in which he mostly describes historical subjects. He is also known for publications with anti-nazi themes. His translation activities are not omitted from this thesis. Diploma thesis also documents Cháb's relationship with dr. Lev Sychrava and aim to deals with his political opinions.

Everyday life, media and dissemination of information - Ghetto Terezín 1941-1945

The topic of the dissertation is focused on the Terezin concentration camp during the Second World War and specifically in the period of 1941-1945. The phenomenon of Terezin is connected here with the contemporary subject of today's society, that of media and communication. The paper interconnects these two phenomena. This paper draws a parallel between the role of media in an open and closed society based on general facts and data. The aim of the dissertation is to provide a complex view of media and information in a specific environment. The dissertation consists of six chapters, The first gives an overview of the concentration camp and the historical period associated with the ghetto. In particular, it deals with the Nazi ideology of the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question". The subchapter focuses on the composition of the camp's population and its management. The second chapter centres on the possibilities of communication through the media during the period. This general framework is then applied to "forced community". A journalist in regional dailies as a specific journalistic profession on the example of the Ústí region

Diploma thesis "The journalist in regional newspapers as a specific journalistic profession in Ústí region" deals with the working and status differences of regional journalists, whose occupation is believed as a specific kind of journalism. This thesis is mainly concentrated on the area of getting information and working with them, it is also focused on problems and difficulties of regional journalism, the role of journalists, their relationship to the local area and as well their moral level. Last, but not least this thesis brings the sociological profile of regional journalists in Ústí region. On the basis of a research which consists of disinterested observation and a research via questioning in seven newsrooms of Vltava-Labe-Press company newspapers, it shows the picture of margin journalists who have to fight with bad reputation in a long term. One part o this thesis is also a historical divagation to the development of regional press in the Czech Republic in the area of Ústí region and the stormy property changes which happened in the 90's of 20th century as well.
The History of Hospodářské noviny The Economic Journal Daily and its transformation

Diploma thesis "The history of Hospodarske noviny The Economic Journal Daily" talks about the development of the economic journal which used to be an "economic journal weekly" and then it was transferred to a daily journal. The described time of the thesis can be dated with the year 1957 when the communist concept of the economic magazine was firstly introduced and it lead to the origin of the Hospodarske noviny. The historical work finishes in the second half of the nineties when the economic journal slowly changed into a regular daily tabloid. The work is divided into two fundamental sections - after the basically most extensive part of the work that talks of the history of the magazine during the communist period there is also a part that describes the development of the newspaper after the fall of the communist regime. However, the lack of the dates such as the details of some important contracts made it impossible to analyze completely the ownership of the newspaper. But still this work also offers an overview of this problematic.
Comparative analysis of the national newspaper supplements Salon, Kavarna and Orientace

Diploma thesis "Comparison analyses of national newspaper supplements Salon, Kavarna and Orientace" analyses supplements of national, daily released newspapers: Pravo (Salon), Mlada fronta DNES (Kavarna) and Lidove noviny (Orientace). Essential methods used in this work are quantitative analysis, applied to specified moths during years 2006-2008, and chronological analysis of chosen issues during years 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2005. Based on them, various evaluations of supplement main characteristics, specific features and differences were observed. Most important characteristics investigated in the work are: supplement content and graphic conception, placement within the carrying newspaper, structure of published literature forms, themes and sub-themes. There can be also found summary of each supplement history, list of its typical authors and internet version description. Author of this thesis also introduced related overview of Czech literary and cultural magazines (Literarni noviny, Host, Divoke vino, Revolver Revue, Tvar nebo A2) and briefly stated profiles of main national newspapers. To gain supplement readers characteristics, approximate sociological questionnaire was processed among university students.

Master diploma thesis "Magazine El Checoslovaco en México in 1942-1945" presents a detailed characteristic of El Checoslovaco en México (The Czechoslovak in Mexico) written monthly in Spanish, which was published in Mexico in 1942-1945. Its aim was to bring war news and to promote the Republic of Czechoslovakia among Mexican population. This left-wing anti-fascist magazine made by Czechoslovak compatriots was published by The Czechoslovak-Mexican Association. It was edited by Lenka Reinerová and the editorial staff also consisted of Egon Erwin Kisch and André Simone. The aim of the thesis was to give a complex description of the magazine itself and of the Czechoslovak-Mexican Association as its publisher, including the historical context. At first, the text depicts the historical context in Europe and in Mexico, placing a special emphasis on the subject of refugees. The thesis also offers a general characteristic of the relevant media environment. An independent section is devoted to the Czechoslovak-Mexican Association, its origins, organization, membership and its activities before and after the arrival of Czešchoslovak antifascists of German language.
